Do you have fond childhood memories of putting a quarter in an arcade cabinet and playing a game you love? Whether it's Galaga, Tekken, or even DanceDanceRevolution, it was fun experience going to an arcade, a place where you can make new friends, lose some, and rekindle some. Now with home consoles, these little gems are disappearing. If they're still there, it's most likely not good quality, it's very low to encounter a good arcade nowadays.

In Japan, arcades are still alive with activity. The arcade cabinets are of high quality and most of them aren't in the US, since the arcade scene is absent there. There's a ton of wonderful things in Japan, there's Street Fighter, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Tekken, IIDX, Hatsune Miku Project Diva f Future Tone, and more! It takes crazy skill to play some these games, it may seem impossible at first glance, Some people import the kits, or even the cabinets just for their customer's enjoyment. These things are costly, but it's the only way until we have more arcades in the US.

Do you want arcades to return? Tell me your opinion!

Arcades are making somewhat of a comeback in the forum of "Barcades". Places serve alcohol in an arcade setting.  They say that they don't make enough to keep the doors open from just the arcades, if they didn't serve alcohol they couldn't make it. I would love to see some arcades or even some barcades pop up around my area but it probably wont be happening. Not many people cares about the arcades when you can get the same or "better" experience at home.

My friends and me would get our laptops and play Arcade games on it. And in one period We even had a hall where our laptops would be and You had to get ''tokens'' That you would ''use'' Really since we were playing it on laptops there was no way to use it lololol. But you bought some tokens and every time you had to continue a token was used.

I was very young but it was a great. We had a lot of people that would come in to this hall. It was a lot of fun. Some of the people were people I did not even know that well.

The odds are that they will never return in great numbers. Seeing the rise of both game consoles and... ugh... mobile phone/tablet game markets, the arcade has become both obsolete, and many people simply do not want to go somewhere for their gaming fixes. I am not entirely sure how Japan keeps up with the market by having their arcades open, but they simply do not seem profitable enough. We do have, however, things such as Dave n' Busters which has some arcade machines, but the price-point for entry is simply too expensive. The only way that the arcades could make a comeback, and oh, I wish they would, is if they price-per-play became less than it is. Seeing paying per play as too expensive is becoming the norm, and simply not economical for most people.

Well there is an arcade not far from where I live and I still go there some. Ya only half an hour away.

This arcade use to have great games but now it has bad remakes and copies of games.

I think arcades need to return to some places because I have played old games like galga.

Also it is now harder to find a classic arcade fighter with a new lack of arcades being around.

Luckily for me though there is still marvel vs capcom 2 at mine.

All though it is not likely I really hope they do bring back arcades to places.

I haven't really been to an arcade all that much to be honest, but I wouldn't mind it if arcades came back. I personally don't see it happening because of the new consoles and mobile devices which make it so easy to play all of your favorite arcade games for free, and with just a simple download without paying money or having to make a trip out to an arcade. It is just made all to easy and convenient for people nowadays, to the point where you don't even have to leave your home to play your favorite arcade/childhood games.

I went to the arcade a few times before when I was young and it was quite an experience. I remember some of my favorite games like street fighters from the arcades and how much fun it would be to play. So sadly, I don't really think they will be coming back to the degree they used to be in popularity, as cool as I think it would be if they came back.

I think they just need to innovate to bring 'arcades' back. They'll never work like they used to, since gaming consoles are so prevalent and cheap now making the old arcade experience pointless. People are getting out to hang out at venues less, and have less free time. When they do get out, they generally want to do something functional like eat, shop, or play the dating game. This is why barcades work, people are already there for the bar.

I've thought about this some, and mused on what sort of venues you could create to draw people to an arcade. I really do fancy the idea as a business concept, but it's not an easy one to sell. It used to be that arcades drew people to venues, but now it very much has to be that the venue draws people to the arcade. The arcade needs to be part of the whole. Unfortunately, very few game companies release new arcades these days so... you won't find a lot of fancy new machines to woo customers with either. That hurts things.

You haven't been to a Dave & Busters then.  Arcades are morphing into places where adults drink, play video games, and have dinner.  They have the basketball shoot and all the old games in arcade format.  The kicker is they serve alcohol so it's a 21+ establishment.  The arcade isn't gone.  It has evolved into something that works in the United States.

Japan has a lot of other things we don't.  They have reflexology parks for your feet open to the public.  They have converted phone booths into public aquariums.  It's simply a different culture and pachinko is something their kids really like.

Maybe if American kids got out of the basement and went somewhere to go play, we would see a rise in arcades again.

I personally don't need them.  I own games at my house and I don't have to keep pumping quarters into someone else's game.  I can online multiplayer any game and there's no need to travel since beer is at my house too.  And food and a bathroom.  Why go anywhere?

I miss the arcades....I mean back in the day I used to go to them. And then my eyes would widen up so much with glee. I saw nothing but arcades around me in that place. Sometimes I would play tekken. Other times I would play driving, dancing and other games. But, the one game I loved the most there. It was time crisis 3. I loved that game most of all....it was the only game, and I mean only shooting game I was good at lol. Nowadays its hard to find one. Or you would have to go to a far away place to play it.....times have changed fast from the past. And its sad, because there are so many things, that gets in the way. Young people have forgotten the enjoyment of going to an arcade. With family and with friends as well.....

Well there are two arcades around me.  One is Chuck E Cheese which is free entry and each game costs a quarter which really isn't bad.  Though my fave place is Kids Time where they have pinball machines, driving games, pac man, and Tekken!  So I play those when my niece is running around in the jungle gyms with other kids.  There are no adult ones in the area, but at least there is some.

As much as I hate to admit it, arcades are being pushed off the face of the Earth. Even though I was born after the 90's, my childhood was Ms. Pac Man. As much as I like being able to play arcade games online at no charge, I miss the feeling of popping a quarter into an arcade machine. I also miss Marvel vs. Capcom, one of my favorite arcade fighting games. Nothing is more satisfying that Mega Man beating the crap out of Spider Man.
