I've always wanted to learn how to speak Norwegian, but sadly all of my family members that knew how to speak it have already passed. On my mom's side of the family, everybody's last name is Olsen. My grandfather still knows a little bit, but not very much. I would love to learn how to speak it fluently, but that will probably never happen. I've also heard that Norway is the happiest country on the planet, and its economy is in the best shape. It sure would be nice to speak to other people that know how to live a happy life.

MattyIce : I heard that the Netherlands are on the third place of happiest countries But that's interesting, you want to learn Norwegian as it's in your family just like I want to learn Italian as it's in my family.

jakob12341 : Why don't you like both langauges then?

I'd quite like to learn Japanese. My boyfriend is actually learning Japanese right now, but I've been wanting to learn it myself for a while because I've always wanted to work in the video games industry and the tech industry, and of course both of those have very comfortable business ties with Japan.

I would like to be able to speak arabic Firstly, it will help me a lot in speaking with others in real life, as well as understanding the "environment" here(living in riyadh, saudi arabia since birth and yet I don't know enough to understand the boards, signs, what arabic people be talking about etc. )
Second reason is a more personal one i.e. understanding quran(holy book of islam)

Finally, the language itself is amazing! Sometimes one word is enough for a sentence. While there is a standard arrangement of words in a sentence, you can arrange the words in a sentence in as many ways as possible and meaning won't be altered (you can use the factorial thing to calculate possible arrangements. That way it's possible to have 120 5-word sentences using same words and have same meaning). Meaning of the sentence comes from the very letters and vowels used(vowels in arabic are used above or below a consonant letter) so you can fine-tune your sentence to address to exactly one, two or "three and more" person(s) using a single letter in its appropriate position, show tense using certain vowel arrangement on consonants, and some more things, and you can have a sentence meaning exactly what you want to tell, using few letters and words.

While I would love to learn all languages there are existing and have existed, the real life limits me severely on what languages I can learn, and because of rule of this post, I won't tell about the other language I would like to learn.

Vizzed Ghostbllod: That would be cool, you're the first one who picks a language that even deaf people would understand

jakob12341 : Alright then

faisal.97 : Yeah, the real life limits are troubling me too And I said that you can pick one language but since most people did more than one I guess you can do it too. Arabic sounds interesting but I don't think that I will ever learn it as I'm not as interested in it as other languages.

juuldude : haha same here- japanese's the other language I would like to learn It's letters are (or at least almost)words themselves, and the arrangement of sentence is opposite of english i.e. object-verb-subject

Oh yes, I read somewhere that learning a new language improves your brain. This is what I read at a certain website:
"The more foreign languages you learn, the brainier you can become, scientific research reveals. Learning new languages improves your mental agility as well as boosting your memory — and the benefits are even more apparent as you age.

According to scientists at York University in Toronto, learning new languages helps to improve brain function at any stage in life. In addition, speaking several languages can also help keep your memory sharp as you grow older. People who speak four or more languages have five times better cognitive function later in life than those who only speak two.
"

Nice, isn't it?

That's pretty awesome. I wonder if that could help elderly people avoid Alzheimer's then. Though the older you are the harder it is the learn a new language, it may still be useful.

I'd like to learn Japanese, Arabic, Ancient Greek, and French. I took a few French classes the past year at collage, but I'm not good at learning other languages.

Unknown Dragon :

Yeah unfortunately a lot of research has suggested that the younger you are the easier it is to learn a language (such as in the study). However, I would think it should never stop people learning a new language, and it could be useful to engage the brain activity in older people more susceptible to Alzheimer's.

I know bits of German (from my father who was stationed there) and other bits of languages, but unfortunately not fluent in any other but English.
