I would not go as far as to say that there is one man ( or woman I presume ) that was the greatest or most significant of all time. Now myself I do have a list of people I admire the most and have great respect for what they brought to us ( like Nikola Tesla  ) but I think anyone of them would agree with me that none are any greater of a human than any.

oh my. a post specifically about me.

i am by far superior to every being that ever has, or will exist. to elaborate, every 13.9 trillion years i re-initiate the compression sequence that leads to  the recreation of this universe. i created myself through a paradoxical time displacement where i went to the beginning of reality(which did not exist before i went back to it) and stabbed myself in the spine, and proceeded to consume my own soul. this i only do once in each reality.

i created the world you live in, by indirect means. as such, i also created you, by indirect means. i destroyed the empire of Kllath when it became apparent that they would stumble upon the ability to compress the universe, thus saving the universe from being ruled over by an empire of creatures who exist only to consume energy.

I am the greatest. this has always been, and will always be.

Weeellll, I don't know about you guys but I'm going to stick with the original options. As Txgangsta said, there is no man who is perfect. Everyone has flaws. I respectively disagree with you however, Txgangsta, about Gandhi. He was the first president of the free'd India, and many people would argue that his non-violent movements did indeed influence quite a lot at the time. Not only that, but after he became the most well-known leader of violence-free protesting, the idea traveled to King Jr. who managed to withstand years of torment and abuse without resorting to violence and always kept a strong face for the people who looked up to him. Even Malcolm X, who did resort to violence formed a great freedom group that definitely advanced the movement for equal rights. You see, I view greatness as a balance between most influential actions for the world and the integrity/morals of those actions. I definitely nominate King Jr. and Gandhi as a tie, for I feel they both had an equal influence on equal rights for the colored races throughout much of the world, and these community's have definitely assisted in the advancement of the world. Malcolm X is not nominated simply due to the nature of his methods, and his group was an after-effect of King Jr.
In short:
+1 Martin Luther King Jr.
+1 Mahatma Gandhi

Slythion :

Gandhi and MLK are popular choices for greatest people. But Gandhi was largely ineffective. It's not debatable. He started in South Africa, but was in India in 1907. India wasn't autonomous until the 1940s, officially in 1947. He was assassinated by a Hindu nationalist because he was viewed as too weak. It was not until the UK was distracted by WWII and violence in India was too strong that the Indian government had any sort of real function.

Don't get me wrong, he's smart and abhors violence, both of which are good qualities. However, I actually agree with the Hindu nationalist in that he was weak. He could never be authoritative enough to be the executive of a bee farm, let alone a country.

MLK is actually a decent argument. He was more effective than anyone else AND was non-violent. However, he alone wouldn't have done anything. For example, MLK himself credits black athletes such as Jackie Robinson for making his job radically easier. MLK was simply a voice of reason which, by complete happenstance, had microphones next to it. I wouldn't credit him for more than exactly what he did, which was good, but not spectacular. The American civil rights movement can only be credited to the group as a whole.

In my eyes it will always be Kennedy. Yeah he made some mistakes, but who hasn't? In the end I admire his willingness to strive on, his personal struggles, and his values toward the nation.
I quote: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." - This shows character
"I am not the catholic candidate for president, I am the democratic party candidate." - This shows class
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." - This shows dedication and honor.
Those are the only ones I can remember, but he is certainly my pick for best.

King and X are both great men, anyone who says otherwise is umm, a human with a different opinion? But I guess Steve Jobs could be on there, he was very inspirational and a big loss to humanity (not really, but he was a great man nevertheless)
