What Ghost fishy said is right: Nintendo has a lot more competition these days.

I really don't know what to say to the idiots that have no respect for Nintendo. I guess they just do not like the oldies.

Most people already said it, those people don't know the games, don't like them or just only think that games are shooters. There are kids on my school who aren't in Nintendo as much as I am but they don't make a big fuss about it.

Honestly, everybody should decide what you like. If you like classics such as Pokémon and Mario even though they are meant for little kids as well, that's your choice. If you like shooting and killing I'm fine with that as well.

And yeah, there's more competition now. Nintendo has some good rivals now that introduce new, exciting games as well, not only shooters and most people always say that the newest things are the best and that old things can never be as good as new ones. It's all false as that's not completely true.

Even when reviews rate games from Nintendo well people believe that they are not from this time anymore and that new games are 'it'. But every game is good or bad in its own way, no matter what people may say, the only way to really know if a game is good is hearing both sides of the story and playing it yourself.

In my opinion, most people prefer Sony and Microsoft consoles these days. That's probably because the consoles are more powerful and they have better graphics. And because of the games as well (Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto, Call Of Duty, etc). But Nintendo is still awesome, and I prefer Nintendo, too.

In my class, people aren't anti-Nintendo, since everybody has a 3ds in my class. However, some people laugh at us because we have 3ds and we play on them. That's ridiculous, the 3ds is a video game console like the others! So unfortunately, some people see us as immature people...just because we play on a Nintendo console! Those people think 3ds are consoles for "babies". Which isn't true, because there are mature games on the console.

Eirinn : I'm 15 and I still play Non-Violent-ish Games, like the Harry Potter Games, Lego Batman, and The Simpsons Skateboarding.
( All Titles on GC/Wii/Ps2) I also play Mortal Kombat, but not as much as other players, and Nobody at my school even cares about what games you play.

But otherwise, I am that kid that sticks out of the whole group, and tries to collect all of the Consoles/Games, even the ones during the NES/Genesis Era.

I also never knew what Bullying was really like, until I took a trip to the South. That's probably why you never get a break for liking Nintendo.

shadow1o0 : I'm actually a little surprised about how young you are. In my experience, most 10-15 year olds already have their own phone of some kind. I know my 13 year old niece can't ever put her phone down. Most kids nowadays are playing games like Call of Duty, Halo, games like that.

But in my opinion, people will ALWAYS be wrong for making fun of Nintendo games like Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, Sonic, and other older games. I just turned 27. It might be one of my dark secrets, but I still like to play Pokémon every once in a while. I just like to play it, I don't know why. Nintendo games will NEVER die for me, and I say shame to the people that make fun of it just because its old. Tell people to come to Vizzed and see how fun it is to play these games!

I guess that kids mainly play sporting games and violent games today at this young age because it is just there for them to play, and these sort of games seem to be more abundant in the PS and Xbox markets then they are in the Nintendo market. Seeing as many kids nowadays get Playstations/Xboxes at a pretty young age now, they'd most likely go for these games.

It seems to be the same in England, too. Although, you shouldn't really give a damn about what they say. In my opinion, entertainment is entertainment. Does it hurt anybody when you play Nintendo games?

If they like COD, cool. I've played it a bit, it's fun. If you like Mario, cool, it's fun. Both of these things are forms of entertainment, you shouldn't be judged for the things you like, as long as they don't bother anyone. If it bothers them that you play Nintendo, then they've got the problem, not you.

But, to answer your question...

Nintendo isn't as popular as it used to be. They, honestly haven't made the best decisions in recent times. They've fallen out of the console race, I feel. In a league of their own. Sure, they still make games, but they aren't considered to be a part of the whole Xbox and Playstation thing. You always hear about, "Xbox or Playstation, which is better?" Notice how the Wii U isn't in there?
Nintendo falling far behind Sony and Microsoft with Graphics and Power and all'a that, caused it.
I don't really care about Graphics and computing power and that malarkey, I'm sure you don't either, but a lot of other people do. They see Nintendo as the lesser option when it comes to gaming. They aren't worse in any way, they just are considered worse by many.

Chill out , Nintendo's target group is much younger than we are on average, that's not to say we're not allowed to enjoy it, but they cater towards more child games, while games like call of duty and GTA give us a false sense of maturity thinking we are mature because we play a  game with murdering and swearing, silly us.

People these days take Nintendo for granted for what they contributed. It seems that if it doesn't have guns or blood, it's deemed a kid game, and if there is anyone in their age group that plays it, they are deemed "gay" or a nerd for liking games for babies. I had some people like that in my class, but they didn't bully me for it, but they did poke a little fun at the fact I still played it.

I don't really understand this really and it has been something that has puzzled me for quite a while now...

violent games like Modern Warfare, Halo, Black Ops and stuff like that are intended for people my age and yet it seems that more 10 year olds and younger audiences play this game from what I've heard...

On the other hand, a game like pokemon for example was meant to be a game for younger people, like 10 or so, but yet it seems that more teenagers and older people play it than the age group it was intended for.....

I don't know why this is....I've never really been into fighting/violent game like that, they have never been my cup of team and I don't know why, but for some reason kids at my school and all over the world can't shut up over their precious black ops. Everyone has their own interests I guess and that is perfectly fine by me.

Sounds like you need to put on your Mr Potato hat, look them in the eye, and say "You uncultured swine!" The only thing you should be feeling is pity for those poor, unfortunate souls who will never the joys of Nintendo.

On a more serious note, I have been in your shoes. I walked into 6th grade with a TMNT shirt and was mocked and made fun of all day. However, the same type of shirt was praise-worthy by the time senior year of high school came around. To my experience is the explanation is this: when kids enter middle school they're given new ways of life and freedom. Instead of one classroom all day with the same people, they travel to many different classes with (usually) different people. The acceptable group is now among certain friends rather than the entire classroom; there's simply more people to "impress."

For some reason kids at that age have to tendency to over-analyze the target audience for certain venues of entertainment. Pokemon and other Nintendo franchises are initially intended for children, so the new grown-up middle school kids should obviously stay away from them. These kids have the urge to prove to themselves and everyone else that they deserve this new freedom and more 'mature.'

It's not until high school and college where people begin to accept what they truly enjoy and not care so much about who knows, since they don't have to worry as much about establishing friend groups. Suddenly, by the end of high school, it was as if I was being praised for boldly showing everyone that I was comfortable enough with myself to flaunt the Ninja Turtles on a t-shirt. And everywhere I looked people were playing Pokemon again. Unfortunately you just have to ride it out until that time for your peers arrives where they're willing 'admit' that they might actually like Nintendo, or at least give it a try. Believe it or not I was kind of teased by my first college roommate when he found out I hadn't played Ocarina of Time before that year. Everyone has different tastes and each group has it own 'acceptable' hobbies. But eventually it'll all come together and people will accept that.

Personally, all I've ever really known are Nintendo and Sonic games. It was until Super Smash Bros. Melee where I wanted to try other Nintendo characters' games. If you're concerned about fitting in with these other guys and they enjoy the shooters/violent games, perhaps you could see if the fighting style of Smash Bros will peak their interests. Seriously, the game's so popular nearly every other franchise has made its own version (see Playstation's All Stars Battle Royale). If these guys don't like Smash Bros, all hope might be lost for now. Just kidding, but I'd be surprised. Good luck riding it out, but don't forget to enjoy being you.

No one here gives a crap what you play where I live. Yes most people I know don't play that much Nintendo games compared to me but no one cares really. I know a bunch of people that play Pokemon,Mario,Sonic etc. Not so much Zelda. I and many others in my school hate Zelda.

People these days don't like anything that does not have to do with shooting guns. But anyway if people make fun of you for liking Nintendo ignore them because they have probably never played a Nintendo game the probably thought I was for kids and discourage it I should know I have the same problem as you but it does not affect me because I simply don't care about what they say about me. Always remember they have no right to tell you what you should like or dislike that is purely your decision no one Else's if people in school give you trouble at least you have people here who have the same likes.

Like someone said, it's a stage of immaturity

Pokemon and Nintendo in general represents childhood.
At around the late middle school/early high school stage people tend to have a strong need to present themselves as "mature"
And they see things like that as "Immature" so they tease people who like it in an effort to distance themselves from that
Don't let it bother you.
And trust me, it'll change soon enough

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
