A while back I made a post of how I got teased and sometimes made fun of for liking pokemon. Well its not really pokemon this time around, more so just nintendo in general. People in my school tease me all the time for liking nintendo... and we're in the 7th grade! What makes this worse is that they're the type of 13 year old's who only play cod and sports games and don't give any other game a chance (the future of gaming is going to be limited to only games with guns I swear). They have never played/beaten zelda, pokemon, fire emblem, metroid, sonic, etc, but say I'm "gay" for liking it... I'm actually confused of why they label nintendo fans immediately before even having a conversation with them as "gay, nerd, geek, someone who has no life," and etc. Can someone please tell me why they do this??

It is mostly just a stage of immaturity. Hopefully they will grow out of it, but for now you are stuck with them. Being a seventeen year old in high school, I feel the need to lash out at people like this. I am not the last person to say that, overall, this generation is awful. Anyways, they are immature and easily impressionable. Let's say that they are "fake people". They do not branch out to things because they seem "uncool". It is all a social construct. Since older kids are playing shooters, they feel like they will be considered children and feel left out if they do not join in on it. Same goes for the name-calling. I'm sorry you have to deal with people like that, but they exist everywhere. Even in my high school, sadly, there are still people like that. They just have not reached the age of maturity (or at least mild maturity). It is depressing to know that they are like that, and refuse to give anything that is not Call of Duty on their Xbox a shot. Some of them at least branch out into other shooters, but that is it. Hopefully you have at least a few people who still play other games. Do you? Again, sorry you have to deal with them, I hope they grow out of it sooner or later, otherwise you could be stuck with a high school filled with dudebros and swaglords that constantly act malignantly and only play COD, just like I have to deal with.

There is thankfully quite a bit of people in my grade who play skyrim and assassins creed, but that's about the only great games they play. And you know its bad when some of them pass off halo because aliens apparently make it "for little kids". Also there are very few people who play nintendo games in my grade, which is making me want college to come soon so I can hang out with people who are like me.

That is rather unfortunate, because they are missing out on some of the greatest games by dismissing Nintendo and only playing a limited genre of games.

They will never know what its like to try to get all of the multiple endings in Chrono Trigger, they won't will never know what its like to beat Ridley in Metroid and have to run to the exit, they won't know that you shouldn't gamble away all your rupees moblins...

Fortunately for gamers like us though, there are many developers that see that we don't just want sports and FPS.
Don't let those people discourage you from playing the games that you love...you will be playing long after they get tired of throwing a virtual football or getting the most headshots.

Play what system you want and don't listen to the haters.  I like a couple of the "worst consoles of all time" and I could care less.  I had a 3do shortly after it came out.  I payed nothing for it, I fixed up a bike and traded it for a Genesis (extra one) and traded the genesis for the 3do with a couple great games.  I also had the Atari Jaguar when it came out cuz my older step-brother was working and bought one I thought it was cool as all get out.  So I say screw the haters if you like a game system something obviously appeals to you that others are either too thick headed to give it a chance or just plain jumping on a bandwagon.  

That's odd, when I was in high school Pokemon was very popular. On topic though, Nintendo (WiiU and 3DS) is seen as a babies toy (you godda use your hands?). It is marketed for little kids, the games are seen as childish, and is just becoming a joke to hardcore modern gamers and even casual gamers. Playing Nintendo to them is like walking into school with your thumb in your mouth and a dipper on. Nintendo is making a lot of mistakes (and have been) and really don't care what gamers think, they are ether totally out of the loop or just don't care if it will please their fans. The 3DS is a neat console but like all of Nintendo's current stuff, its just a novelty. I don't know if Nintendo feels they can't keep up with the other consoles and Sony's handheld but it seems like they are not even trying. Dang, I got off topic there for a minute, but yeah, what I said above, but don't let that discourage you. If you like Nintendo's current products, play them. Don't let people tell you what to do. As long as you are being yourself that is all that matters. 

As I think about the past and now....in the past those talks were popular. but...sadly things have changed and people like them would like to talk about what games that are in modern time. Don't let what they say get you down its all base on their immaturity like sop said. Lets hope that they see through that very soon. They are missing something that was great. Just because it isn't or doesn't come to talk, it doesn't mean that it didn't have its best times. It is still best till this day despite what they say.

I know that feeling. Theres these two kids who pick on me. one day i was Watching Kirby with my friend when they kicked a ball in my head 10 times and laughed at me. I was ready to punch them into a wall but i continued watching Kirby with me friend. another time we were in art class and one of the two kid said "i'll drop your bag" (witch it had my 3DS and my Mom's tablet in there) and i said "my mom would KILL ME!" so i think kids arn't getting enough Detention from their parents because they think that its cute. Whenever i did something rude, i ether got a spaken (witch i get Birthday spakings now) or i lost my DS, Wii, and/or N64

Now, I don't know any of those kinds of people well, But I have met some. I love nintendo ( Especially old school nintendo ) And I'm 11 years old, That's not strange it's very normal. Same goes for 13 year olds 14,15 And even older. You can enjoy what you want. And I have been told that I'm gay for loving retro games.  I hate skyrim and Assasin's creed tough, lol

They make fun of you because they're not familiar with those games.  Everyone is so concerned at your age, and older, about fitting in and being accepted socially.  Humans in general react negatively to things they and their friends haven't experienced.  Some of them would probably enjoy playing but they're too afraid how they'll look to their own friends if they try or say anything positive, so they're negative.

It's not you.  It's the uncertainty of something very different and the fear of being kicked out on an established social group.

I suggest this.  If you get a chance, talk to one of them when they're alone.  Tell them in 45 seconds about why you like the games.  Talk about the story, the difference between that and sports games and invite them over to try.  Say you won't even tell anyone if they'd be embarrassed.  That would be interesting to see how they respond.

Or.... they are simply guys who like action.  They want immediate results and don't want to wait for a story to develop and evolve as they play.  Then you're stuck.  They just won't like certain games.

You don't like sports games, I take it.  It's okay to simply not like something because it doesn't appeal to you.

What nerd likes interesting characters, well-made stories, and fun gameplay? The future of games should only be a pair of gloves holding a gun charging to a bunch of bland enemies!

I feel your frustration. And, while Nintendo hasn't made the best choices recently, they made quite a few gems. They still make a few amazing games now as well.

I know how it feels. Everyone hates Nintendo at my school. They are all so fond of their Xbox One's that are spying on them while they sleep. I do have 2 friends that like Nintendo though, and those are my closest friends.

It's because they turned off the wifi for wii and ds and they made horrible new pokemon games. It makes sense, and also, the wii u is too expensive.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Honestly, I'm beginning to get the impression that the majority of CoD fans are thirteen or so. I'm not mocking CoD, just saying that almost everyone I see raving about CoD is between the ages of twelve and sixteen.


As for your question, GenesisJunkie answered it well. When Nintendo puts six year olds on TV in most every ad of theirs, playing 3ds and WiiU, it gives people the idea that those systems are for small children, and makes Nintendo products seem infantile at best.

However, I still see many Nintendo titles as being awesome, such as Mario platformers, Mario RPG's, Mario Kart, Zelda, and Harvest Moon (though it isn't a Nintendo title, most Harvest Moon games are on Nintendo systems). I know most of my listed titles here were Mario games, but in all honesty, I truly love many Nintendo games. They simply need to take their business a little more seriously. Make systems that most hardcore gamers can respect (no more motion control based systems, no more publishing commercial after commercial with little kids playing your systems while adults sit back and smile at them, etc), and people will respect Nintendo once more.

I bust Nintendo a lot for stupid console designs, and brainless moves in so many areas, but when it boils down to it, I really do love a lot of things about Nintendo, and I hope they get their act together soon. I'm not really down on them.

I had the same fate as well like you, back in late 2003 into 2004, I have been always made fun of because I liked Pokemon and even a couple teachers sided those people as well, and that caused me to go into a 10-year hiatus from the series, and I have returned to the series just this year.
But I was the one with the last laugh because those students that made fun of me over the Pokemon series are now low-lifes with no wealth or meaning and those teachers got fired a couple years later after those events in '04 (forgot why they got fired).

Also, isn't those games "E" rated games which is 6 years old or higher, that means anyone that is over the age of 6 can play means a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old, a 21-year-old, or a 40-year-old can play those games, it's not like it's like "E" is strictly for 6 - 12 year olds.


For me, being both an Nintendo fan and a Sony fan, I know on how people can be and in fact, during my whole High School years, most of the students there were all Xbox fans, so getting through those 4 years were tough, but I have managed through it. And the biggest thing those "Gamers" look at, "if you don't like any First-Person shooter games, then you ain't a real gamer." That ain't really true, because the world don't revolve around just FPSs.
And also remember, if it wasn't for Nintendo getting us out of the 1983 Video Game Crash, then they wouldn't be a Call of Duty series or a Halo series, or any other FPS or any other game for that matter.

Sure, if you look at me, I in a way do like more retro games than modern games, and trust me, I have played most of the games out there for most of the consoles out, and I can surly say that I have tried video games on all the Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft consoles, and it really doesn't make much of a difference to me, a game is a game.

How I view it, don't let others take advantage of you because you like Nintendo or any of those games, always remember, they're going to have a worse life than you will have.

I believe that as new generations come along, people are beginning to think more and more that Nintendo is for kids. The people who were around when some major games came out know this is false, but some of the previous generations feel this way because of nostalgia. Young people today never lived through the early parts where each game was unique and grew up with those awesome games.

Yep, same issue in my school, except that they leave me alone since I never told them that I'm a Nintendo fan (And there was this since where someone who got a Wii told his friend who owns a PS3 that about the great things in legend of zelda, that guy with the PS3 then proceed to MOCK HIM ever since then and.....swings his hands around in a girly way and says: Wiiiiii", fortunately not everyone here is like him), but rather I told them that I own PS2 to see if they like it, but they said to me to throw it at the trash can and buy myself a PS3, but I said that I refuse to since at that time I've seen 10 PS3 games from my cousins and they were horrible compared to PS2 games, REALLY HORRIBLE. (and even now that I have bought the PS3, there are only less than 10 games I like compared to PS2 where I like over 100 games, and I'm merely being honest!)
And this scene continued until I got out of school where I thought I got out of this mess......WRONG! They're still here in collage.

Moral of the story? You can do nothing but to get used to them (and pity them if you want to) and ignore them, that's the new generation where kids (or teens) buys a PS3 for the only purpose of playing cod (yea, you heard it right, over 400$ for just that, which I find it really crazy) and other shooter games.

In my school it happens almost  the same but instead of mocking people get false facts, like when i told my classmate when i got Pokémon X he said "Oh you got Pokémon X, Halo is better and has better graphics and too much sells" i tried to tell him to check Pokémon X sell chart, but he still insisted that Halo is better, Gosh even after showing him the rating of 9 he said that Halo was still better. I don't hate Microsoft nor Xbox i simply i hate fanboys.

Nintendo has more competition than before a few decades ago. The exposure to shooting games have really increased from the past couple of years. Younger kids in general are exposed to shooting games rather than Nintendo. Probably the shooting games today have "better" graphics and more action packed from a distance. I am guessing they all want to "fit in" with the popular video game crowd and their minds are so narrow to the point of not seeing other types of video games out there as well.

Stick to your own business. Nobody can tell you what certain games that you should be playing. Everyone has their own tastes in games and one should not be insulted for liking a certain game. If there were to be a drastic change in the popular gaming industry though, most people will probably end up joining the bandwagon.

There are 20 year old guys in my college who play both Nintendo and Sony games so I don't get why it has to be such a big issue. Some others only play Nintendo games and some others only play Sony games. Big deal. Everyone is different. They should know better and they need to expand their minds a little bit more.
