I don't know why. And to be perfectly honest, COD is far from a bad game. I think that the campaign on most games are pretty solid, and i loved the challenges that they had on Black Ops 2.
MRK_Mr_MeXiCaN : I agree with you, people generalize the fans, but it's kinda true to an extent. I mean, not everyone is like that, after all i used to play COD, and i never used the microphone, simple because there was no reason to it. i didn't want to, so whatever. But it looks like the amount of kids that play COD keeps growing. And you know, it's really bad when i get sweared by a 7 year old on a game. 

Basically what i'm trying to say is: A big part of the community ruined COD (For me). The reason why i stopped playing it is because peopel don't have fun on COD anymore. It's all about the K.D and stats. I play games to laugh and have a good time (Unless i'm playing a game that is supposed to be hard, like Dark Souls). But oh well, it's all opinion.

I will say this is more like a stereotype or generalization, but, unfortunately, is proven true on many occasions. I for one do not play FPS's that often, let alone the ones people always argue about and fangirl over like Call of Duty or Halo. However, I believe a lot of the hate for this comes from not only the pride concept, but also a mental security thing. I think a lot of the people in the younger audiences for these games play these M rated games because it makes them mature. Playing games with gore and violence help people think they are mature or part of a more mature age group, when in reality they are not.

Another thing I would like to elaborate on is the concept of familiarity. People who play these games only play these types of games, and are too afraid to play other games, either for a lack of skill (which many of them already lack) or fear they will be shunned by the people who still play FPS games. 

So, in reality, mainstream gaming has become a hierarchy of insecurity, with different social classes based on what games you play. We have the FPS gamers who have convinced themselves that they are the highest class, and they stay in this class because of the above reasons. We then have the MMO gamers who sit somewhere in the middle, and are usually picked on for being nerds and such, but get away with it because these games have online and still some gore. Then, of course, we have us, the Retro gamers who play long running series of games, which are usually attacked by the above groups for being childish and dumb, even though they turn out to be insanely fun.

And, before anyone goes and tries to kill me in my sleep, I am not saying FPS games are bad. I do not favor FPS's, although I will say they can be pretty fun and sometimes be a deep, story-filled adventure like the Bioshock series.

For the same reason a lot of Nintendo fans say Sega sucks, and for the same reason Playstation fans say Xbox sucks. When some people feel very strongly for something they have to put something else down because they are not secure about what ever it is (be it themselves, a game/console, or what ever). Not every hardcore fan is like that though, as an example, I am a huge Sega fan but I like other companies as well. Most of the people that are doing this is probably young and Call of Duty was the first game they really enjoyed but I don't know. All of those FPS looks the exact same as the next to me.

It is true that some people do ruin the gaming experience. It sucks, it really does. I have come across some vulgar kids and it does ruin the fun experience. I dislike these kids that have nothing better to do than curse at strangers and act tough. There are people out there that love to play games and have fun and not talk trash and we should not forget those people. I am sorry that kids have cursed at you, because it has happened to most of us and it is annoying.
