I wanted to look at something about The legend of Zelda, Ocarina of time today that raises a few questions. Particularly, the Kokiri, their shop, and, most of all the Kokiri shield. Of course, you're thinking, what's so inquiring about the Kokiri shield?

Well, think about it. The Kokiri have made their own shield for themselves complete with their own symbol. Now, in the field of battle, the symbol on your shield told the people whom you were affiliated with, it was called you coat of arms. They also sell slingshot seeds, and, based on some of the Kokiri's knowledge of the slingshot and how to use it effectively, they may use slingshots as a regular weapon among them. And let's not forget the know it all brothers, who give link lot's of information about playing the game.

I would suggest that the Kokiri are a race of elvish children whom are actually prepared to fight when needed. I mean, they even have their own training grounds!

Perhaps there is more to the Kokiri then one may think at a first glance.

So, what do you guys think?

First thought? "He got my name right!" xD

Next, your idea seems right, but there is always that kid that tells you that you can't go see the Deku tree until you have a sword and shield. Perhaps the idea of the weapons and such are to protect themselves from the creatures in the woods (because things start attacking you the moment you step outside of the village).

But then that doesn't answer why you'd have your Coat of Arms on your shield. That would be more for a war scenario, since they didn't leave the forest.

It seems to me that your idea would be the only possibility that makes sense, and covers everything.

Eirinn :

XD

My guess is that although the Kokiri had their own sheild and such, that they didn't fight heavily, but The Deku Tree being really wise probably sent them on little missions.

They also probably did things like rescue hylian soldiers whom enterd the lost woods for refuge from geruadoes during the war. The geruadoes would think that they had the soldiers right where they wanted them, and then suddenly, these acrobatic, well trained Kokiri jump out and fight them off.

Maybe even the skull kids would help everyonce in a while since they seem to get along with the Kokiri.

I wonder if the Kokiri forest is the only place with Kokiri in Hyrule? Wasn't there someone called the Maku tree in one of the handheld titles? I was trying to remember if there were people in termina who had heard of fairy children or not. . . outside of that Owl.

Man, I haven't played many handheld titles, and I haven't gotten into MM yet, so I can't say. However, it does come to mind that the Kokiri in Wind Waker were funny looking little creatures (though that wasn't their true form) and the Deku tree was with them on an island.

Now bear with me, because that was my first official Zelda game (I played a mobile homebrew Zelda game that got me interested in Zelda in the first place) aside from the NES title, but I was a little kid then. That said, my understanding of what was going on wasn't at it's best, and so I may get some details scrambled a bit.

Okay, so as I recall, Hyrule was underwater in WW, correct (it may have just been the castle town)? At the very least, large portions of it was underwater, as the Castle was underwater which would mean the game took place in or over Hyrule.

If such is the case, the Kokiri forest on that island couldn't have been the same Kokiri forest we had in OoT, as it was level with Hyrule field (and in turn, Hyrule Castle), rather than on a mountain top, so if the Castle were submerged, the Kokiri forest would have been submerged as well. That would seem to indicate that the Kokiri Forest in WW wasn't the same one as in OoT.

Again, my memory of WW is distorted by both time and a lack of knowledge of the Zelda series at the time, so I may be way off base with that.
