Please move this if it's not in a good place, wasn't sure where to put it.

What are your feeling on God Modding in Role-Play? A God Modder is someone (Usually whoever started the RP.) that can take characters and something to them between posts. I was recently in an RP (note how I say "recently"), a very small RP with only 4 people, and the God Modder kills off me and 2 others.

Anyways, back to the question, what are your feelings on Godmodding?
I obviously hate it.

That correctional sub-conversation could take forever, so i'll just skip to the subject at hand!

I haven't RP'd in quite awhile, but I do recall that every group/site that I had ever been apart of, people who tried to God-Mode, or Power Play in their posts were usually quietly warned in PM to fix their post, or have it removed and they'd be suspended for forcing an entire topic to shut down.

So I hold very firm on the stance of giving everyone a fair chance in role plays, everything has a circumstance and if there is a realistic way for someone to logically get out of something? By all means, role play it out and progress the story forwards.

I had the unfortunate circumstance of far back in my days being apart of a Star Wars role playing site, we really all were quite good, most of our singular posts were long enough to be the page of a novel, but my character was twins with another users evil character, turns out we were both evil in the end.. But no matter what i'd do, I could fashion up the best responses for combat scenarios in duels and he'd still come out on top, it wasn't because he was better... He just literally pulled out every cheap trick and snuffable offense a role player could!

And what was worse is he was friends with the owner and apart of the staff, so of COURSE he got away with all the crap that others had perished for, needless to say I left the site.

Oh! I remember these guys from back in the day!

"Oh man? Seriously?"

"Yeah man. Way. I designed this so this is how we play."

"Whatever man. I am going home."

While a terrible God Modder ruins the RP experience, an excellent God Modder can make the RP worthwhile and memorable.

In fact, most of the RPs on Vizzed are God Modded and they're usually brilliant.

godmodding is okay when the RP Master does so. In fact, most styles of RP's require the RP Master to godmod. The reason it's necessary is because he/she is the only person that has any idea as to where the story is going, so it's their job to guide the players in the right direction. The player's job is to write the parts of the story that aren't predetermined However, this privilege can be misused, and so ruin the RP. It's a fine line that the RP Master must toll.

However, a player godmodding drives me mad, even when I'm not involved in the RP. lol Just seeing it is annoying. godmodding ruins the game, and no one can have fun. That's why when I run an RP, I always make sure to include in the rules that not only is godmodding not allowed, but players can't always be the one to win a group fight or solve a problem. RP's are only fun if everyone gets to participate equally.

Whenever me and my friends RP, its usually incredibly silly so I don't mind. The last one we had was about me having a gigantic robot the feet the size of a house and that cried nuclear waste, and my friend god modded the whole thing. Even when we play D&D, it gets really silly, like a Beholder falling madly in love with out Archer and sacrificing his life for us.

No, I have no problem with Godmodding itself. I do it in my own RP. But you have to Godmod subtly and push the players in the right direction, not off their character.

It's not usually the problem, but if I made this thread I'd narrow it down to the god modders who make every attack you use FRICKEN MISS. Jesus bro, it's my attack, I would let you win for farts sake, JUST GIMMEH A GOOD FIGHT!!!

I like to consider the GM a necessary evil. The GM is usually the person that created the RP and therefore is the only person that knows the direction that the story is moving towards. If you didn't have the GM, the story would derail and there would likely be chaos and eventual boredom; people would constantly vie for the power that would give each other the edge over another RP'er. The power struggles would eventually lead to immense frustration, and that's when the boredom would start to hit, when everyone realizes that the other players are no longer playing the game, and merely trying to be the one in charge. So, assuming that the GM is fair, the GM is necessary to ensure that the RP travels smoothly and that it continues instead of the cataclysm that is sure to befall the RP otherwise.

Hmm, here are my thoughts on 'God Modders'.

If the participants in the RP agree ahead of time on a specific person to God-Mod, like EM in his RP for example, then I am totally ok with it. It can be quite beneficial, actually. However, if we're talking about people who just randomly try to kill me off in an RP, then I have much different feelings about them. This includes, but is not limited to the following: 'If you can kill me off, I can kill you off (and I will)', 'I will burn everything you love', 'You jerk', or 'RIP this RP'

If someone broke the predefined rules of the RP, then I believe it to be acceptable. If you can't properly follow the rules, then don't complain.

God Modders are there essentially to enforce the rules. If someone breaks the rules (posting in the thread for an RP they haven't signed up for), it's perfectly reasonable. If you have trouble following the rules, it's not the GM's fault.
