Although I've only made one profile on a Final Fantasy game, I give odd names to characters from other RPGs. I used to name everyone either "Dragon" or "Ziggy," but I'm done with that because those are really dumb names for people. I can't remember what I named Cloud Strife in FF7, but I know I named Barrett "Dejotaj," who happens to be a user here (I named him Dejotaj because I was bragging to Dejo that I was beta testing FF7... of course, my beta test ticket didn't actually cover that so a staff got angry at me) and I named Tifa Lockhart "sexy." Why? Because I was already getting really bored of the game and I just decided to mess around.
In my Pokemon Sapphire game cartridge, I kept most of the Pokemon's names the default, but I changed some. My starter, Treecko (now Sceptile), I named Killer. It fits him well now since he's a Sceptile and he's around level 85 and has a beast attack stat and around 300 maximum HP. It's embarrassing, though, because this was the first Pokemon game I fully completed and he was the only Pokemon I actually trained. So there's your reason of his power. I named my Wingull "FLYHOG" and one of my Zigzagoons a name I can't remember, but it was spelled wrong. I also found a Skarmory while collecting ash from the volcano after encountering dozens of Spindas and I figured that Skarmory was really rare (since I already encountered a huge amount of Spindas), so I named him "RARE!!"
I remember when my brother first got his Pokemon Diamond game. He named all of his Pokemon Star Wars names, so for example one of his Pokemon was named "Darth Vader" and another one (which, if I remember correctly, was one of those bird Pokemon) "Han Solo."
