Okay, Honestly, I am not a big fan of pokemon games. I used to be a pokefreak, But it pretty much went away when i realised i would never collect all of the pokemon. I don't play them often anymore, But when i do, I only play it for about 2 hours at a time. I used to play them every other day for about 4 hours. I'm really not sure. It's been a while . Whenever i'm feeling nostalgic, I play this game. And when i play it i play it for more than 2 hours. This game is a pretty good game. You can't exactly just push it off into a corner and ignore it for too long. Which is why i am reviewing, Pokemon emerald for the game boy advance. Graphics:10. The graphics on this game are incredibly good for the game boy advance. Previous titles were extremely pixely, and not very well. Though it was good for it's time, They really improved from generation 2. The charaacter sprites are very good. And the pokemon sprites weren't extremely pixely. They were smoothly crafted and very original. The water tiles look much better than the ones in the previous games. It made me want to try to lick the screen. Though i never did it. The rather 3Dish scenes such as kyogre groudon and rayquaza scenes were probably the peak of the graphics capabilities for the game boy advance. I was extremely impressed with the general surrounding of things such as clouds that you can see when looking into the water. And the sandstorms in the desert. With all of that going on, It really adds to the experience when you first play it. Sound:8. Very unique sounds go a long way, And they went unique with this one. Instead of just boring generic and may i add RANDOM sound effects like they did for pokemon generations 1 and 2, They actually FIT the scenes. Such as the constant downpour of rain in the rainy areas. It actually sounds like constant rain downpour. The pokemon cries changed from annoying Frequencies and stupid sound effects, To sounds that actually fit them. They went all out with the sound on this one. It got better in further generations such as 4 and 5, But i honestly prefer this one. Music:10. I honestly like to come back to this game to listen to the music. generation 1 and 2 hurt my head too much. This is MUCH better than that. Like, a comparisin of Cianwood city and sootopolis city, Cianwood city was very pretty sounding, But way too much dinging and scratchy noises. Whereas Sootopolis city, Had pretty horns and drums. easy on the ears and Quite enjoyable. The areas i enjoyed most were the bouncy ones though. This game has a nice balance of music. They got the really peppy ones like the final battle music, The rival trainer music, and mt.chimney. Then they had the bouncy happy ones such as fortree city, the ending theme, and littleroot. Theres only ONE dark one though. Mt.prye. Which is basically like the pokemon tower for generation 3. The music here is creepy, But it always seems to make me happy. Happiness inside of pokemon death...huh... Anyways, I like it a lot, so 10/10. Addictiveness:3. I'm not much of a pokemon fanatic, and i cant remember how i was when i played this game. I know i played it a lot, But i'm not sure HOW much.. So i'll just state how much i play it now. I play it here and there, Really if i were to play a pokemon game it would be this one. I find it pretty addictive, But not to the extent to play it all day everyday Like some games i play. Since i've beaten it, it doesn't keep my attention for too long. I have trouble playing games like this, Not a lot of activeness. You can basically just spam one really strong attack and win most battles. Story:4. I wasn't exactly impressed with the story at the beginning. I mean, Kid lives in a town, Gets a pokemon, and the professor wants him/her to go on an adventure with animals that you can put in containers that fit in your belt/pocket. Not interesting. After a while, It turns out there's two teams that are trying to change landmass and watermass, by awakening ancient pokemon that fought long ago. Then a sky pokemon comes down and makes everything peaceful. I enjoyed it. But as to why i gave it a 4, only the ending part is interesting and original to me. That doesn't seem like much of a story to me. Depth:10. This is OBVIOUSLY a pokemon game, and pokemon games involve catching all of the pokemon. Well, in this game, You have to collect all of the pokemon in all 3 generations. Imagine how hard that is to accomplish. Not only do can you do that, You could, if you wanted, Get EVERY item in the game, fill the ENTIRE PC, get all shinies, and beat all of the frontier games. I have not accomplished ANY of this. I only managed to beat the game. If you think about all of that, It sounds impossible. It pretty much is, considering that the pokemon events are no longer going on anymore. Difficulty:10. This game is probably the hardest i've played in the series. They really 1Up'd the difficulty from pokemon ruby and sapphire. I beat pokemon ruby with ease, But this game took me several tries, several months, extreme strategizing, and a whole HECK of a lot of level grinding. I mean, this game is so hard, How could anyone ever do a nuzlocke on this?! You'd have to collect and train so many pokemon as back-up, Tons of potions, And a lot of time. It would probably take you about a year and a half to beat it!. Heck..... you'd Probably have to train each individual pokemon to level 100. I've never made more than one pokemon level 100. It'd be impossible for me. Overall:8.1. I used to enjoy this game back then, But when i look back on it, It doesn't seem as great as i remember.... Props to the creators, It was a lot better than the other games in my opinion. Thats my review on pokemon emerald. I really poured my feelings into this one.
