Mega Man X2 is my favorite game in the X series and for good reason this game rocks. I will be reviewing this masterpiece Overall: 10 Mega Man X2 is my favorite of the X series and for good reason. The plot is good, the music is great, and the graphics are state of the art. The only other X game that rivals X2 in being solid is Mega Man X3. I received this game as a Christmas gift shortly after it was released. I remember being excited to play this game. The game did not disappoint me. I still enjoy this game to this day. Mega Man X2 has a lot to offer. Games do not get much better than this. Graphics: 10 The graphics of Mega Man X2 are a huge improvement over the first X game. X2 was the first game Capcom used a new C4 chip in the game cartridge and it really showed. X sprints are nicely done and no longer feel sluggish like they did in the first game. The background of the stages are colorful which the first X game seemed to be lacking at times. X's buster is colorful and the animation is solid. The graphics really shine in the sword battle in the computer stage and the Sigma Virus battle. Mega Man X did not have such graphics which I is not surprising considering it was the first X game. Capcom really did good on the graphics. The only game that can rival this one in graphics is Mega Man X3 Sound: 10 Mega Man X2 had some of the best music in the entire X series. I have found that the music even tops the games for the playstations. The intro stage music is highly remembered its the type of tune that gets the player excited for the game. All of the maverick stage themes are solid and really sound nice. No stage really has bad music. The sounds do not seem to lag or tingle like they did in the first X game. I find that most of the sounds are really upbeat which I like. X's buster charging sound is nice too because it makes the player feel like they are consuming a bunch of energy. The sound of X firing his buster lets the player know that X is going to do serious damage. Even the enemies have nice sounds especially the X hunters. The sound of X2 only rivals another X game for its top quality and that is Mega Man X3. Addictiveness: 10 This game has a high replay value even after beating it. Mega Man X2 is so good that after I beat it I wanted to go back and play it again. Mega Man X was a good game but it just felt like something was missing. Some of the later X games have good replay value. But X2 and X3 have the highest replay value for me. The game is just addictive. As I stated earlier I got this game as a Christmas gift and I have not stopped playing it since and that was in 1996. The player will find that this is a solid game and one that cannot be put down so easily. I highly recommend Mega Man X2. Story: 9 The story is pretty good for Mega Man X games. The story or plot may not be as good as Mega Man X3's but it is very solid. The player knows that X is returning to fight the mavericks again. However, little does the player know that X will have his hands full in this adventure. The plot thickens in the game as it opens up a new mission. A lot of the X games did not have that after X2 and X3. The only other X games that had a mission in the middle of the plot were X5 and X6. Mega Man X2 gives most of the plot away at the beginning of the game. A few of the other X games borrowed that idea, but in later X games the player has to play through the game to get the plot. I thought the plot was well written and executed nicely Depth: 9 Mega Man X2 has a lot to offer the game takes a while to beat if you want to get all items and the correct ending. They are several items to look for. A lot of the items and power up items are well hidden. So the player will find that revisiting stages is a must. Some of the items in the game really take skill to get. The depth of this game was a lot better than its precursor. Mega Man X a lot of the times were in plain sight and really did not take a lot to get. Mega Man X2 offers a challenge to get all the items. Only Mega Man X3 has higher depth than Mega Man X2. Difficulty: 9 Mega Man X2 is higher in difficulty than its precursor Mega Man X. The bosses are tougher. Some of the bosses are very difficult to beat. Examples are Magnet Centipede, Wheel Gator, Serges and Agile. Of course the final boss battle is very difficult and really challenges the player. I was challenged when I first played this game. Another thing that makes the difficulty high is some of the items require a lot of skill and creativity to reach and get. Mega Man X2 set the bar for difficulty because the other Mega Man X games are tougher and it all started with X2. Mega Man X2 is the type of game that beating it with all times is a huge accomplishment. I personally like games like that. So for new players prepare to be challenged, but its the type of challenge that is fun. Overall: 10 Mega Man X2 is my favorite of the X series and for good reason. Not bad, the review is good when it comes to length and you give the right amount of details on each section. It's a good review overall. |
