Here's the link to the official Olympics page for this year's Winter Olympics http://www.olympic.org/sochi-2014-winter-olympics

Well it looks like Team Canada is going to take home the gold for hockey again. Look at this team, it is absolutely stacked!: http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/feature/?id=1131

Now, let's discuss why the heck Kyle Okposo is not on the US Olympic team. He is tied for second in points (goals + assists) among all American born NHL players. (Source) At the time of the selection, he had more points by himself than Ryan Callahan and Derek Stepan (who both made the team) COMBINED. Bylsma is out of his mind for not choosing Okposo. He is the most clutch player I have ever seen play. He is also the hardest working player. He is always hustling. He has good speed, a nice check, is good defensively, has great awareness, is an excellent passer, and he has a great shot. He has also been on fire this season. Right after the US Olympic team was announced, this happened. Okposo scored the game winning goal in overtime against the Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks. In case you can't here, the fans went crazy, chanting "USA! USA! USA" I went to the Islanders game last night against the Penguins. Dan Bylsma, who chose the US Olympic team, is the head coach of the Penguins. Of course, Kyle Okposo scored the most clutch goal of the game. The crowd, including me, went nuts. And I am sure Bylsma was shaking his head, thinking "Why didn't I pick this guy?" Well, this may have factored into his terrible decision: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OIScImKsQ8. Okposo beat the crud out of Penguins player Matt Niskanen during the playoffs last year. Look at the blood!

So, what do you think of the decision not to take Okposo to Sochi? And who do you think will take home the gold in hockey?

EDIT: None of my hyperlinks worked? Let me try to fix them...

I'm not sure where I've heard it, but I believe that Team USA is getting Terrorist threats from somewhere. I guess Team USA needs to watch their backs.

Oh, here's an article of it. http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/22/22398121-us-and-other-olympic-teams-get-terror-threat-ahead-of-sochi-games?lite

pacman1755 : Yeah, I heard about that in the news about a terror threat at the Olympics against Team USA, it just seem like the whole world isn't safe on wherever you travel.

I know this is a double post, but no one has posted and the Winter Olympics has started today, so I better.

Anyways, the Winter Olympics has started in Sochi, with Figure Skating, Freestyle Skating and Snowboarding going on today, the Opening Ceremony and a lot of the games will be starting tomorrow.

tgags123 : I'm canadian and i think or hockey team kinda sucks, same with the U.S. Is it sad that i was kinda happy for stamkos to be to injured to play as i thought martin st.louis deserved it way more. Come on... the game after he scored 4 goals.

Also, for the U.S how could they not pick bobby Ryan, he is one of the leading U.S born goal scorers in the past couple years. Brian Burke said "intense is not in his vocabulary"

I think sweden has the best chance of taking the gold in hockey as they seem pretty stacked. They have karlsson  and Oduya on defense.
They have lundqvist and gustavsson as 2 of their goalies. they have henrik and daniel sedin, alex steen ( the one person besides stamkos you can keep up with ovechkin in scoring), Alfreddson, zetterberg, franzen, hagelin, landeskog and so much more amazing players on their team.

I am not really into the Olympics but it could be interesting. I cheer for two countries America and Israel when I watch them. I just hope there is no terrorist attacks. Many experts warn that could happen. I know you can't live in fear but I know it has to be on some of the athletes minds. Some of them are not taking their families over for that very reason.

mourinhosgum : I noticed the other day how good Team Sweden was. I read something today that said one of the Sedins (Henrik, I think) is hurt and will not be participating in the Olympics, so that is a big loss for Sweden.

tgags123 : The sedins also haven't been doing to good. P.K subban could either be the reason we win or lose the olympics. He could get mad, take a stupid penalty then we get scored on.

I am very into the Winter Olympic's and watch them religiously when they are on. lol I pretty much watch Team Canada compete in everything. Doesn't matter what it is, I'm watching it decked out in red and white. I watched Justine and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe (sister's) win gold and silver this afternoon in mogul's. Beautiful moment.

If you made a team out of all of the players snubbed from Olympic hockey teams, the team would look like this:

Taylor Hall (Canada) - Claude Giroux (Canada) - Kyle Okposo (USA)
Milan Lucic (Canada) - Joe Thornton (Canada) - Bobby Ryan (USA)
James Neal (Canada) - Logan Couture (Canada) - Alex Semin (Russia)
Jeff Skinner (Canada) - Eric Staal (Canada) - Mike Richards (Canada)

Dion Phaneuf (Canada) - Kris Letang (Canada)
Dustin Byfuglien (USA) - Brent Seabrook (Canada)
Jack Johnson (USA) - Keith Yandle (USA)

Corey Schneider (USA)
Corey Crawford (Canada)

Honorable Mentions: Jordan Staal (Canada), Marc Staal (Canada), Evgeni Nabokov (Russia), Ben Bishop (USA), Jason Pominville (USA), Dan Boyle (Canada), Tyler Seguin (Canada)

If you look at the Olympic rosters, you will see that a lot of those players deserve it more than some of the players that did make it, especially Claude Giroux, Bobby Ryan, Dustin Byfuglien, Kris Letang, Dion Phaneuf, Brent Seabrook, Taylor Hall, and, of course, Kyle Okposo.

Wow.. What surprised me was the team finger skating thingy or whatever it's called.. I am not used to the names! xD

Russia won big time and this person got a personal high with like 140 points which was 10 more than this other person's personal best right before her..

Amazing performance I saw out there.

People did outstanding on other sports. There is reasons great players are out there.

Anyone see the speed skating final like 5 minutes ago? Emily Scott, the skater from the US, was purposefully taken out by a Korean skater. Emily Scott's mother was a drug dealer, and is now in jail. Her brother died as an infant. The only person she has left is her father. She is extremely poor, and didn't have enough money to come to Sochi to compete. She received enough money via donations to make it to Sochi. In the semi-finals she was passing the second place skater, who was from Korea, when the Korean skater pushed her out of the way. The Korean was caught and was disqualified, and Scott was allowed to move to the finals. She was doing very well when a Korean skater fell and knocked her down. I guarantee you that the Korean did it on purpose. If you watch the replay, the Korean was smiling when she fell. What makes it even worse is that another Korean was in first at the time.

I've been waiting so long to see Maelle Ricker compete in snowboard cross and was so excited to see her race. It's a shame she fell in the quarter final, but I'm still really proud of her.

Also thrilled to see Canada's women's hockey team move onto  the gold medal game on Thursday. It's certainly my most anticipated Olympic moment.

UFC : spoke too soon. Russia got eliminated by Finland this morning.

Also, we beat Latvia 2-1

For Latvia that was an amazing game. Their first choice goalie was to exhausted from the previous game yesterday against the Swiss.

The second choice goalie Kristers Gud?evskis made 55 saves. Yes i'm not kidding, he made 55 saves and he is only 21 years old.
Also, he is only in the AHL.
The only reason we scored was because of him being dehydrated to the point of the staff going out on the ice. The reason he was dehydrated because the nets do not have any water bottles on the back of them so the goalies can only get water during commercial break and timeouts.

Shea Weber scored the PP goal off of the ensuing play after the staff came and helped the goalie get some water and cool him off.

Not the way i wanted us to win

UFC : I think you can't call a team mediocre if their goalie made 55 saves in a single game. They are a pretty tough team.
Definitely the mot physical team at the olympics.

Also, russia had trouble beating a mediocre team. Only to win in a shootout.
Also, Canada beat finland the game before so at least we can do better than russia.

mourinhosgum : It took everything canada had to beat finland in overtime, and if a goalie makes 55 saves on 57 shots that means whoever is attacking for you is doing an awful job.
