I mean come on it kind of pissed me off to see a PS3 after the money I put into to my PS2 and the games and it becomes obselete with the way overpriced PS3. At least Nintendo adds a new feature to there newest console and makes their previous console still needed. ie The gamecube uses the gameboy player and the wii can't

You really didn't put a time-frame in there, so with that in mind, I'd say: no. That's how console cycles work, buddy. A new one is introduced every 3-10 years and a new one will come after that. That doesn't mean that your PS2 is worthless; tons of good games came out for it after the PS3 came out! And the PS3 is a little pricey, yes. But that goes the same for every console at the start of their generation. With the ten-year life-cycle that Sony seems dedicated to, the price will reach "affordability," whatever that means, and then the successor to the PS3 will be announced after that. It's futile man, there's going to be a PS4. And there's nothing we can do about it.

Thats nowhere near anything to be annoyed about.
Now the prices on the PS3 are something to be annoyed about, but one assumes that they will go down as well.
So I dont care if in another 8 years they release a PS4, so long as it has good games and is a good console is all that matters.
Thats the thing that is the real unknown factor.

As much as the Sega Mega Drive was my first console, i guess for the nest generation the first console will be the PS4 or XBOX - ... Know what i'm saying ?

And also for fanatics like me, it is amazing to see, how video games developed over the years. But i didn't buy anything after the PS1, i only lent all of the consoles from friends or play at their places.

I don't see why you should be mad if a PS4 came out. Just don't buy it. Sony basically dried out of games for the PS2, anyway. I would actually look forward to a PS4. It will be the first home console I will buy right when it hits the stores AND the first home console I will buy ever! Yeah, surprising, huh?

Its all part of the development and the console cycle. If Sony went back on its promise of the 10 year cycle then yes, I image people would be mad. And its not truely fair to compare consoles, there is just a natural progession as with anything. From mainframes to PCs to Laptops to smart phones. There is just a progession. Having recently played both GoW and GoW3 I can say that the PS3 lets you do a lot of things that simply werent possible with the PS2. GoW will still be a great game and I have the PS3 with backwards compatability so I never felt cheated, after awhile I just started playing more PS3 games and found that a lot of my PS2 collection found itself in an awkward place were it was dated but not so dated as to be nostalgic. I hope Sony does keep to the 10 year cycle but I think they will develop a new console when they have sufficient technological distance between the two. The leap from PS2 to 3 is huge, so was the leap from xbox and 360, GC to Wii not so much but thats another debate.

No i doubt you would... Plus if PS3 made you happy why upgrade? Im sure the web play for PS3 wouldnt die out over-night either, Counter-Strike has thrived throughout the years because it was a lucrative idea.

I would not be upset at all. I can't wait to see where the world of video games will be at in 10 years. Just think 10 years back to now and see the big difference. Just imagine. I encourage the making of the new systems. When doing that one seems to be better than the last. I haven't personally played much of the PS3 but I think the XBOX 360 is just as good if not better with the exception of the Blue Ray player. The only thing that I don't like about a new system coming out is the price. It seems as the years go by and another system is made that new system is higher prices. Example when the PS2 come out it wasn't nearly as expensive as when the PS3 come out. However you do get what you pay for as well. If there is one thing that I could take back then that would be to make sure I held on to the old game consoles and there games. This site makes me think of that daily LOL! My advice to you and to myself is to make sure you hold on to the games you have now as you advance through the years. You never know in 20 years you may just want to get in the storage and pull out that old PS3.

I'm only saying no, because stuff like this has happened to me (and my consoles) heaps of times. You kinda don't really care about that stuff, and just carelessly buy the next console in the series (Tends to happen with heaps of people)

Sony has said they're committed to a 10 year cycle, meaning we probably won't see PS4 until 2016 (I'll be in college!). So no, there's no reason to be mad!

I don't think that's a good reason, you people these days are too spoilt for choice.
We didn't have any of this backwards compatibility stuff with the nes / snes / n64 / genesis / saturn / etc.
Know what we did? We kept our old consoles to play on

i thought the disk sega (dont remember which one it was) had a slot to play the older sega games on it? and, i grew up with the n64 and PSx, so i had a lot of games for them, and then PS2 came out, which let me play my old PSx games on it, which i really, really loved and got really used to.

i guess since that was the first sequel system i played, i just expected the PS3 to play ps2 games, and when most of the models didnt, i was really upset.. now its impossible to find any ps3's that do play ps2 games.. why dont they just make em backwards compatible? what could they possibly gain by not doing it? its just really annoying to have to hook up the old ps2 when i want to play some older game. but whatever.

Nope. The Saturn had a port that looked like it mighthave (at first glance), but that was for the memory packs.

I'd say it's because the PS3s with software emulation didn't play all PS2 games properly that they didn't continue along that line.
The full hardware emulation models would have been good, but those were never released outside the US so the rest of the world never got to see that
But in any case I believe there isn't enough room for the PS2 parts in a PS3 slim, plus it's cheaper to make them without backwards compatibility.
In any case, I would just have both plugged in using an audio / video switch box and switch when needed, I do that now with my PS2 and dvd player.
It just doesn't bother me to have to have multiple stuff plugged in

speaking of the ps3 slim, that thing looks pretty cool ^^ i hope it weighs a lot less.. the ps3 is a freaking tank. i think its bigger than the original xbox, and that thing was huge too

No, I don't believe people will be mad if a Playstation 4 comes out. On the contrary I think people will be happy. And from what I read they will be coming out will one sooner or later. Playstation said " When we put out systems, we try to make them last for at least 10 years." Which I believe the Playstation 3 will to I mean with the constant updates and all. Plus in my book Playstation 3 is the best "Entertainment console" on the market, not just today, but ever so far!!

I think that if a ps4 came out, it would aggravate the gaming market and people would not be able to buy it because the ps3 is still in the market. For the people that do buy it, they would notice there isn't much of a difference and that they wasted their money.

I don't think that's true in the least.
The same thing happened with the PS3, it was released while the PS2 was still out in main stream and at this time the only people complaining about the PS3 are 360 fans
Sony consoles are marketed to be around for 10 years at least so by the time a PS4 came out it would have double the specs of the PS3.
Remember, this thread isn't asking "what if Sony released a PS4 now" it's asking would people be annoyed if Sony ever released a PS4.
By the same logic people should hate the Wii then (oh wait they do ) because it's basically a NES 5.
So long as a companies consoles arn't released one after the other in the space of a year or two people don't really mind a new version (unless the new version is rubbish compared to the old).

In regards to the original post, I don't particularly care if they make a new system. I'll investigate and consider and if it's worthwhile, I'll get it. If it's not, I won't. More power to the creators man, this is a capitalist society, a market economy. No way to pay the bills without the will, I say.

Since I just got a new PlayStation 3 like some weeks ago, I might be pretty mad because if a PLayStation 4 came out, the price of the PS3 would plummet, which makes me really mad.

Also, if the PS3 doesn't have the idea where you can play PlayStation 1,2, or 3, or just even 3, then I think people will get mad for just wasting there money for games that they can't play in the newer sytem.

Also with more people buying more games, then they take more months unlocking and collecting trophies, which sometimes might be a pain.

THey should add an upgrade, or you can go to the store and just exchange it, that seems find to me.

I think there are some ups and down if a a PS4 comes out, and I will be happy if I got one with the new games.

If a PS4 had full hardware compatibility with the PS3, 2 and original I think it would be a great idea actually.
I would also welcome it if they ditched the whole trophies stuff and went back to in game completion ratios and stuff like that that you dont need the internet for.
But I'm sure that there wont be a PS4 for awhile yet, not until there is another big technology.
Cause the PS3 uses BluRay already, the only thing they would really do currently would be to add a better CPU or graphics card.

It depends. If it comes out in about two or three years then no, I doubt people will be that pissed. But if it comes out in 2011 (next year) then yeah, I think some people will be pissed.

Well when the ps3 came out my parents went and bought one... As of right now we have 3 ps3's so i doubt they would be mad if when the ps4 comes out. The one thing that would upset me is if they had the compatibility for all of the other play station systems then they just upgrade the ps4 and take the compatibility out like they did with the ps3.

I believe that the price itself would be an issue but I doubt it's enough to piss people off. How exactly is Sony supposed to improve the graphics of the PS3 anyway? If they somehow able to make it so realistic that nobody would be able to tell whether it's reality or fake would be impressive but I don't think they are at that point yet.

First off I love Sony. SecondS3 price would go down but not by much. They already lost a lot off money. Third-compatibility please. Fourth: PS4 won't come out for like a while, though it is already in development of course.
