According to some reports, the NBA might be considering a different type of draft lottery. Instead of having the worst teams to have a better chance of getting the first pick in the draft (an actual lottery), the NBA might consider, starting next year, to have each year to have a set team to get the number 1 pick, meaning unless a team trades for that pick, they will have all 30 teams set on each year, and every year, they will rotate the wheel so that each team has a chance to get the first pick in the draft. Do you think this is what will happen? And if it does happen, do you think this is beneficial to the future of NBA teams?

I don't really see the point of this. I'm sure it's better than the lottery system they use, which is something I think is stupid. I don't see they can't just make the teams in the bottom 4 or 5 all get the first five picks, and go from there. If one team gets the first pick one year, and still stinks throughout the year, and then next year, only gets a pick at number 25, is that really going to balance out the league? I'm not much of an NBA guy, so I'm not sure how much of that would actually be true, but it doesn't seem like this helps the plentiful of teams that have no shot of going for an NBA title.

The only value this would have is to keep teams from dumping games to get better draft picks.  It would also allow talent to be spread out more with drafts (until free agency hits or teams make moves) and an excellent team could get even stronger with a high draft pick when it is their turn.

The problem with the NBA is the three main power teams and everyone else.  Outside of Miami, few teams have a real chance at making and winning a play-offs.  The Bucks will never go to a championship, the Blazers will never win a Western finals and the league is so unevenly balanced, they're finding ways to make things more competitive.

The only problem is teams are going to trade up and down and dump draft picks and settle themselves as if they had a lottery anyway.  This won't change anything and it will only create disagreement among fans.  I don't care for it but David Stern will do whatever he wants.  That's his thing.

I do not like this idea. It will be more fair to all the teams overall, but I believe there are going to be some individual years where some teams are not going to be treated fairly.

That just sounds awful. IMO, they should get rid of the lottery and have the draft order be based on records, just like MLB and NFL. I don't buy the tanking strategy at all. Why would teams intentionally lose to get a higher draft pick when no college player is guaranteed to have success in the NBA?
