Being very OCD, my socks have to be on the correct foot. I can tell which foot the sock goes on my looking where my big toe has pushed it. If it's on the left side, it goes on my right foot. If it's on the right side, it goes on my left foot.

It depends with regular socks i just put them on any old foot. But then you have toe socks which i have to look at the big toe to see what side it goes on since the big toe don't fit to well in the little toe spot

It doesn't matter with most socks. If you have socks with separate toes then it is easy to tell, but if they are just regular socks then it doesn't matter.

I agree with User, my sock collection is so messed up now, that the only way I would know which sock went on which foot would be if I labeled them. Because of that, I just slide one random sock on my foot.

Well I did not know they had specific feet they went to. I just put them on and they felt right on either foot so I guess I really do not know how to tell.

I just put on whichever one I feel like. It doesn't matter to me which foot each sock goes on. Socks aren't like shoes, where you have to put the right one on the right foot otherwise it feels funny.

I don't. I randomly pick socks and randomly put them on any foot. Even if they don't match. As long as they fit.

I have better things to do than watching my socks, randomly pick socks from the closet or from the floor and let's roll. And in the sping and summer times I don't even wear socks.

You don't know which goes on which because they are the same. They both look the same and are designed the same way because it would be hard to tell which is left and right if it were that way.
I'm not sure that would matter anyway. They are of a free shape unlike shoes. When you put on shoes they hurt and you walk like a fool, put your socks on what you think are the wrong way and nothing happens!

I wasn't even aware that there were left and right socks, but if you want to have them just sew in a L and an R on the socks but that would be more than a bit weird to say the least.

I raise the sock up and if it resembles a foot, the highest point is where the big toe is supposed to be.

If you're asking how do you know which is which, then you can try Brigand's suggestion. If you can't tell where the big toe is supposed to be (like most of my socks), you just need to look at the picture or design at the top and make sure that they're both facing the left side or both facing outward. As long as they're not both facing inward then you have them on the right feet.

I honestly had no idea there was such a thing as a left and right sock. I thought they were both the same! My whole world just exploded I don't know whats real anymore.

You dont because I do not think it really matters what sock goes on which foot else there would be a bit of pain if sock a went on foot b and vice-versa with the other sock if you understand what im on about good for you. If you dont put one shoe on the wrong foot and see what it feels like.

This thread title actually made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that. I wish more threads could do that.

Actually, my socks have the brand name printed on (actually sown into) them on the bottom of the toes, so I can tell by looking at which side the first letter is on. Weird? Probably, but then I never like to be normal. Most people are normal, so what's the fun in that?

Oh, and with some socks you can tell by looking at how the stitchwork is on the toes.

I'm always in such a rush in the morning, that I never do spend the time to try and put my socks on the right feet.
I also don't have any toe socks, so it's not like it ever affects me during the day...
If it has a brand name on it, then Eirinn probably has the right idea.
Otherwise, foot shape appears to be the way to go.

Sometimes I wear toe socks so those are a bit easier. However I put those on first is the way they will stay on. I make sure to put the more worn out bottom of the sock on the bottom if there are no other indication like a special color on the heel. As for round socks, I look at how the big toe has pushed at the socks & put them on the correct feet. As an added measure, I always make sure to fold the left sock around the right one to keep them together. I do the same thing with gloves & mittens(I prefer gloves though). Once I put them on for the first time, I'll fold the left one around the right one.

Do socks really have left foot/right foot designations? If they do it would be earth shattering if I found out I haven't noticed this in my 24 years of living on this planet. I guess toe socks would have to be lefties and righties though(maybe dress socks as well, but I never wear dress socks), and I would think that's the only time it matters.

Put whatever sock you want on whatever foot you want, be free!

I can tell you the color of socks should combine with the shoe color. Ankle socks that can be worn on the left leg and right ankle socks that can be worn right on the left leg
