Ahh, the game over screen. One of the most popular tropes in a video game. Game over can motivate, scare, and provoke other emotions. On this thread feel free to talk about your favorite game over screens. These are my favorite game over screens:

System Shock: You get turned into a cyborg - Ahh, System Shock. System Shock is one of my favorite games of all time. With its combat, puzzles, dialog, and cyberspace, this game redeemed itself as a absolute classic. However I almost did not play the game because of this. When you die before you activate a revival chamber, a cutscene plays that shows the main character getting pulled up into a Cortex Reaver then getting fused to it. Which makes the Hacker's pupils go bye-bye and make his face green... That moment crossed the line between "Wow, this is a pretty awesome cutscene." to "OKAY I DON'T WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME ANYMORE.".  When I saw that cutscene when I was younger I was scared. But since then I faced my fears and I gone and revisited good old System Shock, and it became one of my favorite games. Heh, Shinji really deserves to be turned into a Cortex Reaver after what he did with Asuka... but lets not remind you of that scene. Lets move on.)

Wing Commander: Well, at least you get a nice funeral - Hey look, another Origin game! Unlike System Shock's game over scene Wing Commander's game over screen is sadder, more musical, and more varied. Here, go ahead and have a look. Remember when I said varied? Well, depending on your progress in the game, the scene changes. Also, the Sega CD adds in voices to the scene and adds in replacement music. If you want to try this game for yourself, go here.

The friday the 13th one is classic "you and your friends are dead, Game Over", or the silver surfer death scene where he is slumped down and depressed on his hand. Conkers bad fur day, banjo kazooie and the Majoras mask apocolypse ending is great.   

Pretty much any Resident Evil Game Over screen. Somehow they always cracked me up. Having my head chopped off by a chainsaw-weilding lunatic, followed by the text 'YOU ARE DEAD'.

And like zrockquake mentioned, the Donkey Kong Country Game Over screen is great too. The way Donkey Kong facepalms at you is infuriating, but so hilarious at the same time.

And any devoted AVGN watcher should know about the Friday The 13th Game Over screen as well. I wouldn't have thought much of it if it weren't for The Nerd. ^^'

Maybe this one should be mentioned as well. The Game Over screen in Superman Returns is quite... 'unfortunate' as well. You can't die, 'cos you know... you're Superman. But if Metropolis suffers enough damage, you get presented with a screen saying 'Superman failed to protect Metropolis'. The game was still a dud though.

Other than Friday the 13th, the best game over screen in my opinion has to be the disastrous last scenes of the final day in Majora's Mask. It is really quite dramatic and is certainly more interesting than typical game over screen. Seeing the world collapse is depressing, yet a true moment in gaming. Then you are taken back to the first day by the Happy Mask Salesman only to do everything again. 

The fate game over screen is pretty cool it adds a choice to what you do after death

Mine would have to be the Black Ops Zombie Game over screen because it shows your score and then shows the zombies killing each other.

Goemon's Great Adventure. Never gets old.

Probably any of the Donkey Kong Country's game over screens. The first has a beaten up Donkey and Diddy giving up, the second is Diddy and Dixie in a jail cell, and in the end the screen is covered in red... and 3 has Dixie and Kiddie stuck in a crib, while a somewhat creepy lullaby plays, then the door slams shut.

I'll say this next sentance and everyone knows what is my favorite game over screen : Snake?SNAKE!SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!

If you don't know its from Metal Gear Solid
Personally my favorite game overs are from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, but others are also pretty great.

Kid Icarus Uprising takes a page from their first game and implements it in theirs, plus that little reaper was cute.

My favorite game over scene would be the true ending for bible black

deg2000 : Music from game over screens count. My game over screens have music. The Wing Commander game over screen has really beautiful MIDI music and the System Shock game over screen has some MIDI music that is less than stellar. Both games have stellar music overall of course.
