Alright. So you know we've brought this up in the past, but with no real commitment from anyone so far.

I'm here to say: Let's do it.  The tenth year anniversary of vizzed will be on 12/10/2014, and what better way to celebrate such a huge date... than for us to gather together and have a great time?  Where will this be?  What will be on the venue?  Where will we eat?

Let's start planning now. I'm willing to do as much as necessary to see this happen, and I think there's enough advance notice for people to plan on taking the day off if they work.  

It is, by the way, on a Wednesday, and I'm completely serious about seeing this through, even if you all want me to do most of the planning. I just have to warn you that I'm kinda lame and I might not be the best person to plan a good time.    But I'll do it if necessary.

Can we seriously discuss this....?

Please... ONLY post if you're honestly interested and committed to doing this.  Don't post here just to say it's a cool idea, as all the compliments in the world won't help see it into fruition.

Depending on the location, and my financial situation at the time, I'd love to help make this possible and attend. I've wanted to do this for quite a while!

What location ideas do you have so far?

Saying that the range is from England (where I know) to Hawaii, we would have to pick someplace in the middle of the county, like Nebraska lol  The problem is, with all of us who are only 10-15, how would we get there? I mean.... really. I would love to do this as it would help, but the spot would really be a hassle. Hehe, you know that the Atlanta Air Port has flights to almost everywhere, so that would be a great place to have it. Somewhere in Atlanta.

I don't know how feasible this is.

It'd be a pretty cool idea for some but you have a lot of obstacles for others.

1. The majority of the member base is under 18 as Barathemos stated. This means that they will not be able to go on their own, like most of us adults could, but require parental supervision, which requires parents taking off work.

2. Location, location, location. The most logical location would be near the site owner's state, as you couldn't have a Vizzed Convention without the owner himself. This means you are looking at someplace close to Wisconsin, which may be out of the range of the majority of Vizzed users.

3. Finances. Putting together something like this would take a lot of resources. First of all, if we're assuming this will be a popular idea (since I like to assume positive things) then you need an area big enough to support that many people. That means you need to rent out a hall or similarly big room just to fit people in, not to mention refreshments, entertainment, or anything else you have planned. And again, as the majority of users are under 18, your fundraising will be strictly limited to whatever adults decide to show up.

There are other things to consider too, but these 3 points are probably the most important that you must have an answer to before you can legitimately go around and get something like this together.

I will say at this point, that I don't think I myself would go to a Vizzed Con. I just don't trust the memberbase enough to go half way across the country (nor do I have the finances to reasonably attend) on a whim.

To all of you nay-sayers, I think simplicity is key here. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd be quite content with something simple and cheap. I know mainly older members would be able to go, meaning the number of people going would not be large. I'm okay with that. Even if four wanted to attend... maybe we can't call it a 'convention', but it'd make one heck of a get-together.  

I'm fine without anything fancy. We can all meet in a park near Wisconsin, each bring a dish... and have a lot of fun.  And if that's something that doesn't interest very many people.... I'm not really going to cry over it.  It's for those who are interested and willing.  

Burger King and board games or something touristy... just to spend time together.. sound awesome enough.

Of course, if tons of people show interest, then those plans would have to be tweaked. But again... I don't think it's as big of a deal as some of you want to make it out to be.  lol

Singelli : I would love this 100%. But I agree, I wouldn't be able to travel too far out of New York, but I'm sure there's something I could do to help out. Heck, I could even make shirts.

Well, if they're going to be a convention for the site, I think the first convention will be the nearest major city from where David lives, which will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota, or it doesn't have to be that, it can just be a small convention from his hometown in Wisconsin, so it'll really depend on the size of the convention, because the first convention can be really hard telling on how much people wants to attend it.

legacyme3 : You have mostly describe the pros and cons of a convention, at least for me, the biggest thing I have a disavantage with is the Location of the convention, because I might not be able to go if it's too far away.

This has been brought up before and I love the idea. However, there are many obstacles. First, location. There are members that live everywhere, from Hawaii to New York to Florida to California to Canada to England and more. It would be hard to find a location that is ok for everyone. Second, parents. Most Vizzed members are under 17. That means that they would need parent permission (and a ride) in order to attend. I don't know about you guys, but my parents are convinced that you are all some 60 year old guys that want to lure me in and kidnap me and would not allow me to go (unless it is close by and I can lie and say that I know a lot of you in real life).

I think something more users can attend could be more convenient (poor me in England). Maybe a huge conference call on skype, though that could be too crowded to have fun. Grouped  calls maybe, so there could be a range of age or favourite game groups. It may isolate some users but in reality a 10 year old wouldn't be spending the most time with a 25 year old nor would I guy who likes Pokemon with someone who can't stand it. Hopefully something digital yet kept close to real could fix the commonly brought up problem of people from different countries not being able to attend.
Even if this is kept to the original plan, be sure to film it so I can envy you all!

Wait...is this serious? I don't want to be a negative commentator here, but I really don't see how this could work out to have a bunch of us gather in one location, especially the younger members, who barely even have permission to go online let alone leave the house to meet people that they know online. It makes it worse with the timing of that day, it is nearing Christmas break in which everyone either are busy with school, work or planning for Christmas, but also they would want to spend December with the family.

Now, here is my thought....what if there are not just 1 con, but a certain amount of Cons on that day. What if we can designate certain areas to gather at a certain location. For example, all the brits meet somewhere in Great Britain, the New Englanders gather at a certain area, the Midwest, the South, the west coast, etc etc.

If that also doesn't work...there's always everyone on that day all gather in google+/skype via webcams.

play4fun : I think that's a brilliant idea!  I wouldn't be able to make long trips, but if I'm able to drive by then (long story), then I likely could meet you guys somewhere in the South near where I live (I think there are at least 3 of us in Alabama?).  Plus, we could all Skype or Google+ each other after meeting each other in locations around the world (for example, all of us here in Bama would gather around a computer, chatting with people from London all sharing one computer, etc.).  We could show each other what we've been doing and catch up with each other.

As far as younger members go it wouldn't be for them. Unless this was held in a location near them they wouldn't be able to go. Really, this con would be only for those of us who are able to travel by ourselves. Not everyone would be able to do this, which is fine. As long as there enough of us to make it happen it can work. As for location, David does live near Minneapolis as a major city, but that is a bit far away for him and I don't think he'd be willing to travel that far away from his family. Instead, a nearby small hotel conference room would do the trick

My friend and I took part in an Armored Core tournament several years ago. We drove to southern Wisconsin where the tournament was held at a hotel the host worked at, in fairly large conference room. About 20-25 people showed up and it was perfect. There was plenty of room for everyone and honestly I don't think it cost a lot for the guy to rent it out for the day. I say this is the route we should go; a hotel conference room. Plus, we'd be at a hotel, so people could stay there overnight if need be and then leave the day after, which would be great if some of us were to have a few drinks during the evening, depending how long the convention would be.

It's inexpensive, extremely convenient, a short distance for David to get to and from his home and in the middle of country enough so that no one person would have to drive/fly that much further than anybody else.

I'd very much be willing to do this, and even donate money toward it. However, there would have to be several of us willing to go for this to happen. If I somehow manage to do a meetup with David when I get back for Christmas break I can talk to him in person about it and get his thoughts.

I think I'm already planning out a bit of a road trip for that time of year, and I've already mentioned it to my mom and got a positive response, so I could probably go to Wisconsin if we decide to hold a meeting there. I'd most likely be able to go to at least Alabama or that area, since that's really close, so the regional meetings would work as well for me.

If we were to gather, I think it'd be best to do it over the summer. As for a place to gather, I've got a nice park in my town that lets you rent out their buildings: http://www.freedomparkwi.org/

The only problem is that it'd suck to meet up in the outdoor building if it rained so we'd have to rent the inside building if we wanted to avoid that but that's probably more expensive. They do offer wi-fi though which would be great because we could live stream the meeting for the users of the site to watch.

My town is located in Wisconsin, right on the Minnesota border and that's pretty close to being in the center of the United States.

The big problems I already see with this have already been pointed out, users under 18 and expenses. The other big concern to me is a lot of users showing interest or promising to show up and not showing up. From my own experience, most users fail on their promises and that's usually for simple promises, this is something really big.

How much is a hotel conference room?

I remember this but...I didn't think it would be put up as a thread....I would love to come seriously I would but, because of how I am I can't travel on my own and such....and if possible if I mention this to my mother maybe just maybe she will say yes...but I will need help, with all my heart I want to meet everyone at the vizzed con so...if I can start to plan now, maybe things won't be so bad... yes I am an adult but, as disabled person I can't do a lot...much less travel. I don't have a job so...I am at home a lot.

By the way, everyone posting here, I've been LOVING the suggestions.. thank you. I'll provide some more substantial feedback in a couple of days.  I'm not forgetting this or neglecting the thread.  I simply am rushing to finish this semester and deal with all the chaos which accompanies the finals.

Well what Motnh is it in as I live in Jamaica BUT my parents ( or my mom at least ) will visit the U.S. next year in the Summer . or if I convince her hard enough .. In the Winter . So what Month was the date in ? I saw 12/10/10 .. is that October 12 , 2014 or December 10 , 2014 .. I hope its December . If it is then I WILL try to make an effort to be there ... but that is just making sure I'll be in the country ... what state ? Oh and Did you say ... " BURGER KINGGGGGAAAH !!!! ? " ... Nice. What would you guys feel about meeting in summer, but dubbing it a con for the tenth anniversary?   I do think summer would be more fun and work out a lot better for people, but I also wanted to do it specifically as a celebration for the tenth year.

Singelli : Summer is the only time when I might have even a CHANCE. And that would still be really low, but it your best bet for most Vizzed members.
