You might think it's a stupid question, but I really have that problem. And I know the first thing that will come to your mind is "eat". But I eat a lot, and I can't get over 55 Kg (121 Lbs).

It's not that my weight is an health problem, the weight is fine. But I'm skinny everywhere except the belly and the legs, which gives me a really weird look.

And besides, fat people equals strong people. I want to be stronger. So how do I do it?

I can't help but think that you mean 'heavier' instead of fatter. xD In any case, muscle weighs more than fat, so it's actually more beneficial for you to gain muscle rather than fat. Most people I know do this by lifting weights and stuff, but that's as far as my knowledge of it goes.

Mistress : Well, I guess I do mean heavier.

But yeah, I do workout. Not by lifting weighs, but those exercises you can do at home without the need of equipment.
That made me stronger, but yet, nothing changed on my weight or my shape.

Maybe I'm not trying hard enough...

Weight is a tough thing.  The actual poundage does not necessarily mean good or bad.  I was where you are when I was younger.  I'm 5'7 and I came in at 130 lbs until I was about 17.  Then I put on weight because I was lifting more.

Eat more protein and just keep moving and working and exercising.  30 push-ups every morning, followed by 50 sit-ups is a good way to start.  Focus on eating more protein, like baked chicken, meat, soy, and healthy nuts, and you'll start to put on weight.  It's tough because your body probably found its natural balance.

Just don't eat a bunch of garbage in the hope you'll add weight.  Stay away from crap food.  Eat more fruits and veggies and add on that protein and you'll see the weight climb.

Good luck!

You are probably like me, and all I can say is you probably have to wait.

According to your age, you are 15, right?

When I was your age, I weighed even less than you do.

Currently, at the age of 21, I'm 6'3, and only 145 pounds. I'm practically a stick, despite eating a ton and working out a lot. A lot of me is muscle, but it doesn't change the fact I can't gain weight.

You, like me, probably have a hyper fast metabolism.

Keep in mind that muscle is more dense than fat.

And also, I'm going to disprove something you said in your OP. You said fat = strong essentially. This is false. I know numerous fat people who were beaten down by skinny people in bouts of strength. There's a happy medium, so don't be too concerned about trying to gain weight.

It WILL happen naturally in time. I myself am waiting for my metabolism to slow down as well. Once it hits you, you'll be wishing you had been able to stay thin and athletic (or so I'm told.)

Well you said that you work out regularly, but it takes a LONG time to build a decent amount of muscle mass. An ADVANCED trainer who works out a few hours a day can gain about 8 pounds of mass per year, but if you're young(like 15 or so), it would take you much longer.

but definitely try to gain muscle mass anyway, everyone should exercise at least an hour a day, but don't get "fatter" lol.

Wow man, i am about 130 and I am the same age as you and  am almost 16 actually. The only thing I can say, which has already been confirmed, is to start the day with the push ups and it ups and then eat the healthy foods that warmaker suggested because they are good for you. Avoid junk food by all means, we are trying to gain muscles. Do try to gain actual muscle over just fat because it is just more beneficial to you to do so. You will have to be dedicated though in order to get the body you want. Yours is probably just comfortable with the way it already is, so you have to be able to change that. Remember to workout regularly and as frequently as possible, and stay away from junk foods, veggies and fruits are the way to go. Good luck man.

You aren't gaining muscle mass because of they type of workout you are doing. You said that you are doing the type that can be done at home with NO equipment. That is your problem. There is nothing wrong with that type of workout. It can keep you fit, toned, and healthy. But toning and muscle endurance is all that kind of workout will do. It will not make you gain any bulk. You need real resistance workout that includes real lifting and anaerobic work. You are just like me. I have a hard time getting heavier. I eat like a pig but it doesn't show. It sucks.

What sucks even more is that people look at you bad for complaining about it. I constantly get the whole "Shut up. I would kill to be able eat whatever I want and be thin". But the problem is, being too thin is bad too. If anything, I think that being too thin is seen as worse in the long run as far as people's perception of you. People see you as sickly, weak, or worst of all bony. I am 5' 11'' and currently weigh 155 pounds. But I only weigh that much because I go weight lifting every day and consume about 48-52 grams of protein a day minimum. If I don't do that, I start to go down to about 135 and it is not attractive at all. You need to do less aerobic intense exercise and more anaerobically intense workout.

Thanks to all the people that posted, I think I'm getting it now.

I don't eat junk food because there's no junk food around here. Plus I eat at my grandmother's, no way she'll ever show me some junk in my plate.

I wanted to say that I do push ups and sit ups, but I couldn't remember what they were called in english. Well, now I know.

And do I really have to go to the gym? Can't I just use miscellaneous objects and work with that? It's really cold anywhere besides my house .

Also, I'm 5'7 and 15 years old. (but you figured that one)

First of all: Don't worry about changing your body type too much. Eat right, exercise once in a while, and you'll stay at your natural weight. Don't wish for something unrealistic like huge pythons for arms.

You're 15, your metabolism is probably working at a relatively high rate because you are in the middle of growing. Lots of guys I know, including my father, were very skinny when they reached puberty and didn't gain weight back until they were 25+ years old. Your metabolism and growth will slow down and you will probably gain more weight as you get older.

The only way to build up muscle mass is through exercise, so do moderate exercise once in a while? Riding a bike will improve your leg muscles. Swimming laps help build all of your muscles including your arms. You don't necessarily need to get a gym membership. Lots of community centers have gym equipment and are quite cheap, your school might even have a workout room that can be used for free.

lift weights and eat whatever you usually do because you don't wanna make yourself bloated and uncomfortable with extra weight on your body, it will make you feel sluggish too.

A lot of my friends had the same problem as you at your age. You probably have a very fast or hyper metabilisom, which can be a very great thing. You may have to do a bit of waiting.. once your older you will probably still be very thin. I suggest keep doing weights every day. Even if you just see a little change in that first month, it's a great start! Don't worry to much about it! I'm sure you look great anyways!

Well, I'm not an expert, to be honest, but I suggest you work out and build some muscle. Muscle is what you really want, not fat. Trust me. Eating too much is not going to help you achieve that. Maybe you should start lifting weights or trying chin-ups. They really help.

Your profile says your are 15. So you are most probably undergoing puberty still, i.e. Your body is burning energy growing up.

If you want to gain mass (I do hope you don't mean getting fat as in being obese), weight lifting and eating protein is a good solution. Just don't eat too much and you should be getting better

Hello! I'm a female with this issue. Not the fat issue but the gaining weight is impossible issue. I work out and I suggest you lift weights. Find something around your house that is heavy or fill up a gallon milk jug with sand to make your own weights until it is warmer outside. Eventually invest in some weight lifting equipment if you don't want to use the gym. Some people are just naturally small and yes, we get made fun of badly for it. I also have people that tell me "I'm jealous. You eat anything and never put on weight!" Well, honestly if they were active and not eating junk and processed foods, they could pretty much eat whatever they want that is healthy and be able to drop a few pounds or inches and be happier with themselves. But no, they skinny shame instead. I eat non processed foods and lots of vegetables. I get fruit in smoothies without added sugar and fruit juices. I drink fat free milk. Breads are not an every day part of my diet because they make me feel slow and sluggish. Don't pay attention to a number on a scale, go by how you feel! I'm 105 pounds at 5 feet 4 inches and 22 years old, but I feel great. I was on a bunch of medications for GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease which is an intense version of acid reflux that kept me from eating much of anything until I changed my diet. I also used to have symptoms of IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome which disappeared after not eating junk food. I do pushups and squats and will start T25 in hopes to tone up and gain some mass. You are going through puberty right now, so I don't suggest pushing yourself to hard because you can hurt yourself and stunt your overall growth but you can help by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as trying to eat half your body weight in ounces of protein and trekking on with body weight exercises. They don't increase size, but they increase endurance and strength which is what is really needed instead of size. There are also different ways you can train in weight lifting for size, but again, I'm not posting that here because you are still going through puberty and you will end up hurting yourself if you attempt to be a body builder at this age. Good luck!

There are also different ways you can train in weight lifting for size, but again, I'm not posting that here because you are still going through puberty and you will end up hurting yourself if you attempt to be a body builder at this age. Good luck!

eating alot doesn't mean eating alot of fat, you could eat alot of meat, but maybe the meat isn't high in fat.
Try eating deep fried stuff, even if it is gross, also I'd recommend lifting weights more than purging, it's alot better for your health.

I have gained 5 kilos, so that gives me 60 kg (132 lbs) I still find myself looking the same, except that my belly is a tad bigger now. If it would just cover my ribs, which are pretty showing, I'd be a happy man.

I also would like to state that even though I did not reply to every reply, I read all of them. And it looks you all agree on lifting. So I shall lift.

Scohui :
Throwing some weight lifting into the mix can be helpful. But to gain weight simply eat more. Healthy foods are better for you than "junk foods" because the kind of weight you gain depends of your personal activity level. I love science and there is a science behind everything including weight gain or loss.

To gain weight, If that's still what you want, all you have to do is take in more calories than you burn off. There are a lot of different places to get a base line of how much you should eat. Generally people need to eat at least 1200 calories in a day. Professional athletes need to consume from 4000-10000 calories just to maintain all the calories they burn off from training. I use an app on my phone called MyFittnessPal to keep track of everything. My base caloric intake is about 2200 net calories in a day. I lost about 50 lb over the past year by eating in a caloric deficit and now I'm trying to maintain this weight. To gain weight, you should do the opposite.

For example: 3500 calories is one Lb. If I eat 500 calories less than I take in I'll loose a half pound a week (7 days x 500 = 3500). Or Take in 500 extra calories in a day will equal a weight gain of half a pound a week.

I recommend everyone find various exercises they enjoy like weights or running so that the weight they gain isn't fat but muscle. Counting calories works for me. Maybe It'll work for you.
