Do you think Pluto is a planet? Well, no, he's Mickey Mouse's pet. I do think it is a planet, it's just a DWARF planet, a planet that is very small. Honestly, scientists that say Pluto is not a planet do not think straight. Pluto doesn't seem to be considered a planet. Here's something I learned back in fifth grade

My = Mercury
Very = Venus
Energetic = Earth
Mother = Mars
ASTEROID BELT
Just = Jupiter
Served = Saturn
Us = Uranus
Noodles = Neptune

This is supposed to be the correct order of planets in our solar system. My very energetic mother just served us noodles. But..there's no Pluto. I still think Pluto is a planet no matter what. What do you think?

It is a planet yet not one of famous planets. I would consider it being a famous dwarf planet since there are some other dwarf planets. So what I'm saying is that Pluto is a planet yet it would be considered a dwarf planet right now. 

The reason Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet is because it shares it's orbit with other dwarf planets, some actually larger than Pluto.  If you were to count them all as planets we'd have around 12 planets in our system.  Eventually these dwarf planets will clear each other out by bashing into each other and breaking apart and then reforming into one planet, until then Pluto and the other dwarf planets in the Kuniper, not sure how to spell it, belt will not be considered planets but dwarf planets.

Yes, as fightorace said, a dwarf planet is basically defined as follows:
Like a planet, a dwarf planet orbits a star and has enough mass to be nearly round and is not a moon, however, unlike a planet a dwarf planet has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit.
Pluto cannot technically be a planet AND a dwarf planet as they are two different classifications. It is sad that the loveable Pluto is no longer considered a planet, but as long as we define planets and dwarf planets as such, there really is no question. Unfortunately, science is, in fact, on the side of those scientists who claim it is not a planet.
Once again, as fightorace stated, there are other things in Pluto's orbit, and there are many other dwarf planets that would need to be considered planets as well if we changed this definition.
If it makes you feel any better, because we all love Pluto, it technically has a special classification as a "plutoid", or a dwarf planet that orbits the sun beyond Neptune. Some other plutoids are Eris and Haumea.

Even though it is not technically classified as one because it is too small, I still consider it to be a large dwarf planet of sorts, there are so many theories regarding how Pluto became a part of our solar system. But even though it is small, I still consider it to be a dwarf planet because it revolves around a star and it meets the qualifications as pokemonfanKala.


I believe it was about 2006 when they no longer classified it as a planet. Oh well, I still consider it is a very good dwarf planet, poor Pluto....good thread by the way, this definitely might spark some debate...

But although I might want to consider Pluto a planet, it is just a large and rather famous dwarf planet. Nevertheless, it still orbits around our sun every 248 years or so, or something like that. ..., 

Yes I do believe that Pluto is a planet, but although I did always found that weird that this planet has the same name as Mickey's dog LOL!!

I don't think Pluto isn't really much of a planet in our solar system, the reason why is because the orbit of Pluto around the sun in completely different than the other 8 planets and also, it's too far and too small to be considered a planet in the solar system.

Although some parts of me think it should be because it's been a planet in the solar system until around 2006 and then they think it was just a dwarf planet and it's just mostly one of those exosolar planets (means a planet outside our solar system).

Nobody knows. It could be an official planet in our solar system or it just a pointless planet.

Yes it is a planet, even a dwarf planet is still a planet whether NASA chooses to classify it that way or not. It has three moons that orbit around it while it orbits the sun just like other planets, only it's a lot smaller and it has a tilted orbit. It was discovered in 1930 but only recently did they start to call it a dwarf planet rather than just a planet. I guess they changed their minds about it after discovering another object beyond Pluto in 2003 that is bigger than Pluto. They started changing what classifies a planet as a planet after that. Personally I still consider Pluto a planet, albeit a very small and very cold (375 to 400 degrees below zero) one.

Well, about 4 of the explanations given here as to why Pluto is not a planet is incorrect, so I will clarify. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that Pluto is small (technically). As far as size goes in the qualifications of a planet, it just needs to be large enough to have enough mass to have a strong enough gravitational pull to crush itself into a sphere. Pluto meets that requirement, so it's size has nothing to do with it. It has nothing to do with the way Pluto orbits the sun. One of the other qualifications for a planet is that it must orbit a star. Pluto does, so that has nothing to do with it. 

fightorace got it right. The third requirement is that it must have cleared the neighborhood of it's orbit. What that means is that it must have become the dominant gravitational force in the in it's orbit. That means that when they interact with the smaller objects in their orbit, they will either consume them or sling them away with their gravity. Even though Pluto meets the size requirement of a planet by being a sphere, it is not large enough in comparison to the other objects in its orbit to absorb them or fling them out of its orbital neighborhood. 

The thing is, there are over 10 objects that share Pluto's orbit that are spheres. So if Pluto is a planet, ALL of those other objects are planets too. That is why the requirements of what is classified as a 'planet' became more specific. So again, if Pluto is a planet, then we don't have 9 planets in our Solar System. We have around the ballpark of 20-30 planets in our Solar System. 

Pluto is no longer a planet as it doesn't fit the definition. Dwarf Planet is not the same as a Planet.

Also, Pluto was not named after Mickey Mouse's dog. It was named after the Roman god of the Underworld. 

I am one of those people who will ALWAYS think of Pluto as a planet no matter how many times that they prove it wrong.

Although I don't really think of planets as much as I have when I was younger, I always thought of Pluto as a planet. I'll continue to think of it as a planet, even though it is technically what others call it a dwarf planet.

I would consider it a dwarf planet, just like many others. But it just doesn't have some of the characteristics that a planet needs(I think this, but I don't know much about astronomy ). It is pretty much an Ice ball I guess, like a comet, but it does follow an orbit...so I don't know...
