terrorrizin :

Hospital time is always such a blast... especially if you have somebody screaming 24 hours a day in the same room.

I haven't had surgery yet, but there is a high possibility that I might have it this summer though. I will have to have the Nuss procedure performed on me, it is a procedure that treats pectus excavatum. I have had it for a long time and it is basically a sunken chest in simple terms and it can be treated through this minimally invasive procedure. The biggest problem with pectus excavatum is a decrease lung capacity which can hinder my endurance and it will sometimes leave me short of breath since my lung capacity is smaller. If you saw a picture of it, it would make more sense. I am hoping to get it treated this summer or at least some time soon since it is best that I get it done at this age rather than wait any longer.

$$$$ :

I have had the oral surgery others have had; a few wisdom teeth removed. I had a biopsy a few weeks ago. I felt a lump in my chest so I asked my doctor to cut it out and send it to the lab. I figured it was just a lipoma (mass of fatty tissue) and it was. No cancer, sweet!

My experience with surgery has mostly been on the medical procedure side. In medic school we did anesthesiology rotations where we intubated patients (place a breathing tube inside the trachea) under direct supervision. I got to see some interesting processes. Among the procedures I witnessed knee replacements, breast implantation, a vasectomy and the most interesting to me was the coronary cath lab. In the cath lab we could see the blockage in the coronary artery through dye injected into the blood and direct result of treatment. Each time the heart beats it also sends blood to the heart muscle. In a heart attack the blood isn't able to get to the heart muscle because of a occlusion (blockage). In the cath lab, a team of doctors and nurses send a snake like tool into the coronary artery with the blockage and either remove it with a little claw hand or place a stent. A stent is like a little spring that keeps the blocked artery open. It's really amazing to witness. The patient goes from dying from a heart attack to symptom free in moments. Science is awesome!

No, I never actually had surgery. This is unlike many of my family members, who have had various types of surgery. For example, everyone in my family but me has had their tonsils removed.

I've had surgery I believe twice (Maybe three times?)
The two I can for sure remember are:
1) In Grade 4 I had to have twelve teeth removed before I could get braces because my mouth was way too small for all the teeth that I had.
2) A few years earlier, I had to get surgery to remove my tonsils.
The third time time I think I just got hospitalized, but never had any surgery (Really bad kidney infection when I was 7).

I had multiple surgeries on my ears as a newborn (nothing super serious, I just had a lot of crap left over in my ears) and I obviously don't remember them. That's the only surgeries I had.

Yes, I had surgeries when I was a newborn. I don't even remember anything below 3 years of age, but apparently I swallowed some like things inside the stomach and I would have died if not for those, so glad I had those...

Besides that, not really. I haven't even been to a hospital in a super long time, I don't get sick/hurt badly, I'm quite cautious.

I've had minor surgery on my neck, I was maybe 13-14? It wasn't a fun experience over all, somewhat traumatic actually. I couldn't believe how long it took for them to actually schedule it. Besides that the only other time I've had to be put under was when I got my wisdom teeth removed, also not very fun but it wasn't so great dealing with the pain of impacted wisdom teeth either.

I have not ever had any surgery performed on me. I have had plenty of people in my family, and some of my friends have had surgery, but I am lucky to have never had to go through the experience firsthand.
