I'm 12 and I'm in seventh grade. I got a 99 on the Iowa test and I am now in Algebra 1. I told my mom and all she said was, " good job. Now get out, I'm watching T.V." Not only that, I got an A in Algebra 1 in my report cards and she did the same thing. I've always been really good at math, so I'm not sure if she doesn't care, or just isn't surprised.

I think that is very selfish of her. She should definitely care. She should be very proud. Since your mother won't congratulate you, I will. Congrats! I hope your mom was just in a bad mood.

Well, uhm. Being an optimist, I'd like to think that your mother is acting that way so you don't end up being a narcissist when you get older. Either that, or you keep interrupting her on her favorite shows. xD

minecraftmaniac : I know what it is like. My mom is always complaining and yelling and always in a bad mood, but for a different reason that I will not discuss now. Anyway, I hope your mom was doing what Mistress said.

Mistress : Well, all day she ever does is watch her favorite shows, and when I come home and say that I'm home she says to get out. She gets me out by making me do chores or homework.

Well the only advice i can really give you is to keep your head up.
Hey at least it sounds like you have a bright future a head of you.

All I ever do is try to make her proud and happy for me. She hibernates more in her room than even looking at me.

Very nice job on your scores! If I was your mother, I would be proud (hope that wasn't awkward lol).

However, with regards to your mother, she should make an attempt to be happy for you. She seems to be only occupied in her favorite T.V. shows...

Maybe she does care (hopefully she does), but she is so engrossed in her shows...which isn't really good. 

Or maybe it is that you probably get great grades to begin with, and seeing such a good grade doesn't surprise her, but she probably is proud of you, even though she isn't showing it on the outside. The inside is the mystery.

She said that when you grow up to be rich, that I should take care of her. It's almost like she wants me to rich so SHE could be happy in the future.

Well mate . When my parents do those things I tend to close my eyes and pretend it is all a bad dream . They just don't strike me as much . But your mom cares enough to allow you to get and education and at least she said " Good job " . Maybe she doesn't care but you are still lucky for her . Or maybe she is just used to you performing above average  

My mom says the same thing too about the being rich part, in a jokingly matter, of course.

If it's bothering you too much, then talk with her. It could be that it's not getting to her head that you want her to be proud of you.

minecraftmaniac : sorry to say this but your mum is a jerkoff, don't let it discourage you keep up the good work man don't let your results fall off because of this.

That.....is not how a mother should be to her child, some don't care most do but, in your situation it seems she doesn't.....has she taken the time to go out and bond with you? Or cook? If she doesn't then I really feel sorry for you.....a mothers first priority is her children and nothing else. Of course she can watch TV and stuff but her child should always come first before anything, because the child is important. I am really happy for your results, if you were my child I would take you somewhere nice to celebrate. Some mothers tend to be strange of how they act.......talk to her and try and see why shes acting the way she is.....if she gives you the same answer then....all I can say is be strong, give yourself strength, set yourself goals to achieve, don't ever give up, and I believe one day you will have a better life as you are in now. Just keep looking forward, keep working hard and of course having lots of rest as well. Your mother is sick and tired, you said?

We likely she has some sort of depression if she stays in her room all the time. Depression can make people care about practically nothing, not even their own lives. I'm sure there is a part of her that is proud of you, but she's obviously not well enough to properly show how she feels.

Keep your eyes fixed on the future, care for your mother, and don't let her state effect you. Your life is yours, not your mother's or anyone else'.

Her behavior sounds like some sort of coping mechanism. It sounds like she retreats into the fantasy world of television to make up for some problem that she has. I know that the way she dismisses you makes you feel bad but don't give up on her. She may get hold of her problem one day and be a completely different person or maybe not.

I bet you won't make the same mistake with your kids though?

If you try talking to her about how you feel, remember that troubling news is best received right after good news. What I'm saying is that you might try giving her a hug and/or kiss and telling her that you love her before telling her how she's making you sad.
