I am pretty sure that everybody has to take another language besides English when you are in school. What language class did you take so far, and how did you do in them? I tried to take too much on my plate, I took Spanish in the 8th grade, French in the 9th grade, and Italian in the 10th grade. Because of this, all the languages kind of bleed together and I am afraid that because of that, I will never be fluent in a foreign language.  If you have not taken a foreign language class yet, what language do you want to learn the most and why?

I have been taking Spanish for quite a few years now. I am currently in Accelerated Spanish 9, and it is a bit difficult, but very easy to handle. I plan to take Latin along with Spanish next year, for my sophomore year. I hear Latin can help with the SAT's, so it would be nice to have a head start on that.

I am not very happy with the methods our school takes when it comes to language classes. In my first year of what I think you call high school in America, we did french and french only. In my second year and this year we have been doing both french and spannish. Only we did too much spannish because we were behind on that from the year before. When we come back to french we do too much of that because we forgot because of too much spannish and then it just becomes a vicious circle!
Man my school sucks!

I am currently taking a Spanish class for my school. I'm in the 8th grade and the class is completely online. The students in World Language (that's what it's called because there is Spanish, French, Chinese and I think German or something) go to the computer lab for our last period and get onto a website called Aventa to take the class. We actually do have a teacher but she is very busy most of the time because she has a class or two from every school in our district, so we only get to communicate with her through emails and once a week we have a class period with her where she is talking to us and teaching us through the computer. It is kinda difficult but I honestly haven't had too much trouble keeping up on the lessons so far.

I started taking French in 7th grade and I still take it now, in 9th grade. I can say simple sentences and stuff, but I still have a lot to learn. The only languages that my school offers is Spanish, French, or sign language. I would take Italian if it was an option.

I started taking spanish in 7th grade, but the way it worked was, that my years of spanish in 7th and 8th grade counted as spanish 1, then when I became a freshmen and took it in 9th grade it was spanish 2, and now as a sophomore, I am in spanish 3 which come to think of it is not that hard.

This will probably be my last year of spanish since it will just go on to ap spanish which I don't think I will be taking. But I am considering doing French once this year is over. I mean they are kind of similar, French and spanish, the verbiage and wording is similar so I think for the most part I will be okay.

I had a 98% on the exam in spanish 2 and my grade in spanish 3 as of right now is a 96% so I think I will do just fine, most of the material is an easy review with a few little new things here and there, like preterit, past tense and future tense, all easy stuff. So those are just some of the things I am learning in spanish 3 this year.

During the middle school (grade 5 - 8) I had to take Spanish for the first semester and German for the second every year. Even though my teacher was quite bad, I did very well in those classes.

Right now, I had the choice to pick a language after starting high school. I am currently taking Chinese class, and so far I am doing well in it.

I've only had the option of other language classes in high school and it's mandatory to take two years of the same language. We only have Spanish and French. I took Spanish and absolutely hated it the first year because my teacher was a very very bad teacher. I loved Spanish my second year because I had a teacher that actually was good at teaching even though she completely ignored any questions I had. I learned so much that year and it will probably stick with me for a really long time.

I'm currently in French 10, and I'm getting great grades so far, too!
However, I'm in no way fluent, as my past two French teachers were horrible! The first one only taught us six things, how to say the date, how to say your name, how to say hi, how to say How are you?', how to ask to go to the washroom, and how to count to ten.
The second teacher taught me more on stuff like passé composé (past tense) and more vocabulary words, but it was all worksheets, and I didn't learn much on how to actually MAKE sentences.
This year is better, though, and I'm actually getting the hang of sentences and what I'm learning is actually sticking with me.
I would kind of like to learn Japanese instead, though. I have a foreign exchange student on my volleyball team, and it'd be neat to understand what she's saying, since she hasn't got a full grasp on English, yet.

Hah I was learning 2 languages since first grade. And it's really hard to learn one of the hardest languages and another language.
at 3rd grade I started to learn English and in 9th I learned French (I still do). Also it was not a class but when I was on Taekwon-do training I had to learn a bit Korean to take exam for belts. But I think everybody agrees that Math is hardest language.

I took French for 3 years during high school as well as 2 years of Latin. I like how Latin helped me with roots of words, helping me with French and English, understanding grammar and syntax despite of having a strict and well-mannered Latin teacher.

I am planning to take beginner Mandarin Chinese for next term!

It's hard to master a language and it requires a lot of memorization, practice, and studying.

It's good for communication depending on how popular a language is based on where you live.

Well when I was still in public I almost had to take spanish but they let me and a bunch of other students take another class instead and it was reading class. We were suppose to take it the next year but sense I went into homeschooling I never had to take it. My sister though had to take it and it was very time consuming and hard to understand most of it.

The language I took most at school was Spanish. I took several language courses outside of school and smaller programs within.  I'm not fluent in Spanish but I can hold conversations. I'm much better in written Spanish, since I don't have to think about the words on the spot.

I had German in Year 8. I thought I enjoyed it, but it all soon changed when we started using cases. Now I want to learn Latin-but I doubt I'll ever do that.

When I was in high school, I managed to avoid taking a language class until my senior year. We had the option of Spanish or French. I was not into either of them. However, Chinese was introduced as an online class and I signed up for it. It taught you the pinyin instead of the actual Chinese characters, so when the program moved onto throwing characters at you, it was extremely difficult. I had to drop both Chinese and Advanced Placement Chemistry because my Trigonometry and Pre Calculus teacher failed to actually do his job and teach us more than the basics. I spent so many hours on homework and I didn't have adequate Internet at home at the time to keep up with Chinese that there was no choice other than for me to fail it, so I dropped it instead. Now I'm in college and I study Korean. My first go with it resulted in a failure because the Korean trying to teach us her language wanted to try to get through the entire book in one semester, so she decided to have us learn Hangul the first day and test us on it the next class and then we had to be able to read adequately the third class. The book was intense with lots of vocabulary and complicated grammar that we had just one class to learn before a test. She was kind of insane. Even though she fudged the grades at the end of the class, I calculated my grade before the final and even if I got a perfect on the final, which was extremely unlikely since I was still struggling with spelling and reading, I would have gotten a D. I needed a C or higher to move onto the next level of Korean. It sucked. I am in Korean 2 this semester and I still struggle with spelling, but my reading has improved a lot. I study about an hour a day, sometimes more if I have the time, to learn the much smaller vocabulary lists. My current professor is awesome and gives us a week to learn the vocabulary and teaches us the grammar behind it sometimes. I'll admit I'm not doing to hot in it because of the spelling issues, but if I work on them during spring break, I should be okay.
