Which is the better Nintendo 64 Zelda game? Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask? They're both great games, but Majora's Mask has some down-sides.

1)Too much creepypastas in the game

2)Save system is messed up

3)Game always crashes

4)Less awesome soundtrack than Ocarina of Time

The list goes on! Plus I bought Ocarina of Time first in my childhood, plus the soundtrack is GREAT. I also like the exploration and playing the Ocarina!

So...Ocarina of Time. Your pick?

It's a really hard choice. I like Majora's Mask because of the better graphics, Tingle, and the interesting story, but it's also a glorified ROM hack, and if I have to hear BEN one more time someone's really getting drowned. But I'll pick Ocarina of time because it has less unanswered questions, it was longer, and more fun to play. Plus YOU CAN SAVE!!!

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I like Ocarina of Time. It's the first Zelda game I played, and Majora's Mask is pretty dark. That game always scared me when I was little, especially the Moon. And it's somewhat confusing, having to reset to the beginning of the 3 days all the time. Also, the Ocarina of time soundtrack is great.

PixelBrick :
Zelda the Ocorina of time is better than Majoras Mask for many reasons.
For me?
Money.
Majoras Mask forced a person to upgrade an expansion pack on the N.64.
"Memory" capacity I think was the needed item.
Yet still. After playing a section of it.???
The thing does not need a memory expansion pack if the game can be played and completed in one week.
Plus the graphics, music, and overall design showed little to no difference than the Occorina of Time game.
I give "props" to the folks that played the "Majoras mask" game but still it is a ton of cash to waste on one game. 100 bucks should buy 100 hours of game. Not 40 hours.
Just saying.
Good Luck.
Peace.

That is a hard question for me.... I am a huge fan of both of them so I can't really decide on which one is better, but I will go with Ocarina of Time. Just because it is awesome.

I like ocarina of time more just because of me playing it when i was growing up and just because of majora's mask's 3 day cycle.

Neither of the games are in my top 3 zelda games but i like Oot just a tad bit more.

As said, it is probably a matter of taste, but considering both MM and OOT worked under the same engine and both featured pretty much the same main elements, I'd go with the original because of the story. Great on every level.

Well it may sound weird but I love the replay ability of majoras mask. Sure the bosses and temples are few and the game is much harder (got access to all areas but only 1 temple complete so far ) but you can do countless side quests each with a sense of higher priority making you feel like you did something really good and didn't leave someone hanging. The characters feel very real, there are many upgrades and achievements as masks to enhance replay ability, and though this messes with the time line(if the moon destroys everything how come hyrule is ok 7 years in the future?) I find it a hidden well-judged treasure. Plus I'm a sucker for exploring wide open worlds, as there is more to explore in termina than there is in hyrule. It's the highly criticized black sheep of Zelda but it's one of my fav's.

I think that ocarina of time stays more true to the series core.
But, I really like Majora's Mask. I can't really say that I like one more than the other.

MM Had better mechanics in my opinion with bombs and and combat.
It's nice that ice arrows are actually useful against more than four enemies in
the game now!

I have played Ocarina of Time to much to enjoy it anymore it seems though.

But using gameshark codes to fill the Kokiri forest with Iron Knuckles makes it all
fun again!

I think that I enjoyed OOT more at first, but MM has offered better replayability over the years.

I think that OOT is better on account that it's bigger.
But MM is soooo close.

I wish that both had multiplayer, then both games would be better.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

To be honest, I like both games because in ocarina of time you can save the game and its a awesome story line, but with majoras mask you have fierce deity link which is a beast version of adult link. I've beaten both games and the one that is more challenging is majoras mask.

While OoT is a classic, I would say MM is the better N64 Zelda game. The mask system is really good and original thing, even if some masks only did 1 thing. The transformations were awesome, and the dungeons were challenging, yet fair. (Although the Great Bay Dungeon made the Water Temple look like a cake-walk) The story was amazing, and every character had an amazing back story. Ocarina Of Time was good, but Majora's mask is the overall better game in my opinion.

Tails the Fox : Do we allow comparing threads like these? I know they aren't allowed in the anime forum but I figured that it may be different so I'm asking you, I mean we do sort of make the rules here don't we? Either way I know that threads like these are not allowed in the anime forum so I decided I would ask your opinion on it before taking any action either way.

Anyway, since I'm here I may as well answer the question of the thread and all but I personally prefer Ocarina of Time, it's one of the games I grew up on and it came out the same year as my birth although I think I'm a little bit older but I'm not too sure.. Anyway, it's one of the games I grew up on for at least 10 years before finally moving to an Xbox 360 a few years back.

Personally, I like Majora's Mask better. The mask system is creative, the story is so dark and emotional. The 3 day system is also pretty creative, kinda risky, but I like it. The thing about needing to be on time for the sidequests is also great and if you're late, things turn bad. Taking on different forms is also neat. Sure, Ocarina of Time is great, but Majora's Mask is so much better. Some time ago, I would have said that Skyward Sword is the best Zelda game. Now, I can't choose whether I like Skyward Sword or Majora's Mask better. I would REALLY want a Majora's Mask remake on the 3DS. I'd buy it even if it was priced 100000kr. (Icelandic currency)

Frodlex : Since the two are completely related, I'm going to allow it. If there was a third game after these two, that would have to be part of the thread as well.

I beat the 3D remake of OoT, but have not gotten the chance to play Majora's Mask yet. I'm waiting for a 3D remake of that one as well.

I have to go with Majora's Mask on here. It's such a difficult choice given how amazing OoT is.

Majora's Mask has more depth to its characters. Even though it's less about Link, and not at all about Zelda, you learn the back story to so many other characters, which makes the game that much more interesting. You also can affect much of the dialogue of those NPCs based on whether or not you followed through on helping them in their particular side quest.
I enjoyed the mask system, and thought that brought more variation to the dungeons as it forces you to use the abilities of each transformation. Overall, I think this game has a more mature theme than OoT given the nature of the 3 days time limit.

Ocarina of Time is so much better. Majora's Mask is really overrated and not as good. I consider mm my least favorite Zelda game.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
