So you're a Christian, you have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2: 3-4). You have realised you're a sinner, you repented and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. God has opened your eyes and freed you from that addiction, that vile sin that tied you down, that kept you blinded and enslaved for so many years. You are a free man / woman! Everything is great. The flowers seem more colorful, the trees greener, life is good, then, BAM! You catch yourself doing the very same thing that God has freed you from. You have stumbled...again. What's up with that??!! "God, You have freed me from this! What's going on?? Where is this coming from?? I don't want this! I hate this! I hate myself for doing this...again." In the words of the Switchfoot song, Dare you to move, "Welcome (my Christian friend) to the fallout. Welcome to resistance. The tension is here. Tension is here. Between who you are and who you could be. Between how it is and how it should be..."

Do you identify with this? You are truly a Christian. You love Jesus and are following His ways, but for some reason you continually dip your hands in sin. You continue to stumble over pornography, your anger, your lies, copying that pirated dvd / game, that filthy thing that brings about sorrow and shame. You know what it is and best of all, God knows it too. If this is you, then you have come to the right place. Lift up your head Christian. This is a thread of encouragement and I hope and pray that through this, God will give you strength and will lift you to your feet and as Psalm 40:2 say, that He will bring you up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. That He will again set your feet upon a rock and establish your steps.

Jesus said that you should forgive your brother seventy times seven times. In reality that is 490 times for the same offence in that same day. If my brother commits a heinous act, 490 times on the same day, I should be forgiving him 490 times for the same act on that very same day. How much more would God forgive you? If you were to commit a crime against God in any area, we have the promise of God that He WILL cleanse you and forgive you and push you in the right direction. This does not mean that the scriptures gives you a license to sin. Do not throw God's grace back in His face, but we will continue to fail. You will. None of us will hit this plateau of sinless perfection. We're going to fail miserably. That does not mean, as a Christian, that you give up. You get back up.  Get back in the fight.  Get your eyes back upon Christ and do the things that you know you should be doing.  Get back into the Word.  Get back into accountability.  Get back into fellowship.  Get back into listening good and spiritually uplifting audios, videos, books and articles.  We do the things what we are supposed to do, because that is where we need to be.  Again, we put our eyes upon Jesus whose eyes are upon us.  Pretty soon we are going to shed this earthly, weak, sinful body.  We have to move on and keep our eyes fixed on the prize, on heaven.  If you don't do that, it is so easy to get tripped up by the temptations of this world.  So whatever that sin is inside your life, whether it's gossiping, lying, fornication or pornography or whatever it is, lay aside that weight, that sinful life that so easily entraps and entangles us.  If you find yourself in a position where you can be tempted, get yourself out of that position.  Get someone to hold you accountable for your actions.  I know it sounds difficult, but today we live in an age where we don't want people to know what we're up to or what we have been up to, but the truth is, if you want to "survive", you need the troops.  You need people to come alongside of you.  All around us today we are being overwhelmed by billboards, ads, lyrics, movies, commercials and people in real life.
Take this analogy for example:  If I tell you right now, "Do not think of a black cat."  What happens? You find yourself thinking about the very thing that you have been told not to think about.  So we say, (for the guys) you should not be thinking about a woman in that way, but all the while we have these billboards, commercials and woman (or men for the ladies) coming into our presence and we're saying, "black cat, black cat, black cats are everywhere!"  Instead we need to fill our mind with something else and this is where repentance comes into play.  If I were to say, instead of a black cat, think of a pink elephant, a really, big, pink elephant.  So what's happening is that you're thinking of a pink elephant and not even realising that you're not thinking of the black cat.  That is what happens if we can get enraptured with Christ and set our minds on those things that are from above.  The black cat will quickly disappear, but when it comes back, you have to be very quick to think about that pink elephant.  Obviously the pink elephant it's just an illustration.  We have to think about the things of Jesus and flee youthful lusts, but not stop there and this is where true repentance comes in.  We have to pursue righteousness, hope, peace, love.  By myself? No, with others who call on the Lord out of a pure heart and that's where the accountability comes into play.
When you are tempted and you are struggling and feel weak, call on the Lord and on other Christian brothers and sisters, because they won't be weak at the same time that I am weak.
You also have to realise the eyes of God is in every place.  If you are concerned about God's eyes, then you will be concerned where you put your own eyes.  That is the ultimate accountability.  Psalm 111:10 say, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.." and that brings about another thing to do when you are tempted.  Immediately pray for wisdom.  If you've got wisdom, you will think right, you will do right, you will say right.  God gives wisdom liberally to those who ask Him.  So use the negative of temptation to provoke you to pray for the positive of wisdom.

If you are caught up in that sin now and regardless of how many times you have failed in the past or think you will fail in the future, you have to get up and determine right now to never do it again.  Pray for that heart and attitude and if you fail later today, get up again, repent sincerely and press on.  DO NOT believe the lies of the enemy that condemns.  You have been saved by the blood of Jesus.  If you bring that sin before God and sincerely ask Him to take it away, He will remove it as far as the East is from the West.  He will not remember it anymore.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."

People sin. You do. I do. Those of us who believe they are "saved" and "born again" do as we speak. If not, for the sin of vanity.

Do not think of me as a Christian if you must but repentance lasts a life time. And if one thinks a true Christian is to never sin then he shall be judged in time.

And He will not forget. He will remember.
