Is it worse to fail at something or never attempt it in the first place?

I think it is better 2 try and fail then 2 never try at all.
If you never try at all then you will just end up wondering what could of happened if you actually went for it. Don't leave your self asking what could of happen when you can find out what will happen when you have the chance. it is easier 2 just blow something off if it scares you but fear will only lead 2 regret and trying can lead 2 success. The people that succeed most of the time aren't lucky but they tried. Nothing in life comes with out the risk of failure.

I think for the most parts it better to try. For example if you're running for office for something at school then absolutely try but if its something that's just stupid and will eventually harm you then don't do it.

You see if it cant harm you why not try it? The worst you can do is fail right? And even in failure you can learn from it so that if you ever have to try again you'll automatically know what to do! Whereas if you don't try and there comes a situation where you have to try you wont know what to do. At least that's how I see it.

Being a teacher, I'm sure my answer is pretty obvious:  It's far worse to never try something..... than to try it and fail it.  This is actually one of my BIGGEST pet peeves with my students.  They leave questions blank all the time and when I beg them to at least try, they give me a blank look.  "But then I'll seem stupid, Mrs. Singell."

This response and fear of theirs is irrational, and it makes me want to rip my hair out.  I want to ask them:  "And you think you look so much smarter by leaving it blank?"

Although I know you're talking about real life things, my response is very much the same.

If you never fail at something,  you never have room to grow as a person.

I would say that it is best to actually try out something and fail at it than to not try it at all. Why? because you will learn from your previous mistakes and you will have a higher chance to succeed next time but if you don't try at all, you won't learn anything new and it won't higher your chances of succeeding in the future. So, just go for! Whats the harm?

Like vincent said, it depends on the activity, It's ok to try and fail if you're writing a novel or practicing guitar, you can always get better, the risk of failing at skydiving however, is a different story.

It depends on what you're talking about. If it's food, I'd say it's better to fail than to not try. But on tests, it's worse to fail. You could be talking about anything...

I think it depends on the situation. You'll never know whether or not you'll succeed at something until you try, but if there is a negative consequence if you fail, it might be better not to try at all.
