After beating the first sonic the hedgehog for genesis, I though of them making a sequel someday, I wondered day and night what it could possibly be like, Would it have new characters? New powers? New levels? New enemies and bosses? Well, Check, check, check, and check, That is right, sonic the hedgehog is finally back by popular demand and he is ready to break the sound barrier just one more time! What is this game you ask? Well guys, it is here, This is Sonic the hedgehog 2 for the Sega genesis. Let's get started shall we? Okay then.

Story-7/10
Well the story of this game is that, Well, Ahem, It has been more then a year since sonic the hedgehog has defeat the evil Dr eggman and restored order to his land! Well, that is pretty good to hear! So sonic has finally been getting a long deserved vacation after going through all that trouble to save the world. Until today, Along his vacation, Sonic has met a new best friend who will later become a major character in the series, Tails miles prower, he is a funny chill and layed back fox who has become sonic's former friend and ally, So you are probably wondering, what has happened to Eggman? Well here's the scoop on what he has been up to, Along the past few years or so, Eggman has been working on this giant robot called the Death egg in order to wreck havoc on sonic's world! To power the robot, he will need the chaos emeralds! It is now up to sonic and his furry friend to stop the robot from wrecking havoc!

Gameplay-8/10
To say the least, sonic the hedgehog 2 plays much like the first title, Except there are way more newer features added to the mix! The first difference is that sonic is not alone this time, this time around he is now aided by his loyal and trusty sidekick tails mile prower, and he is pretty cool to say the least! Another new feature is that you can now turn into super sonic once you have collected all the chaos emeralds! And the last one is that sonic can now use the super powerful spin dash! With this move, he can blaze through the level at high speeds curled up in a ball. But anyways, Sonic the hedgehog 2 puts you in the role of sonic and tails, as you and your furry companion run through big dangerous and fun levels, defeating the bad guys, collecting any goodies along the way, and most importantly, Stopping robotnik's evil plan! The controls re pretty simple, You use the D-pad to move, You use all the available face buttons A B and C to jump, and once you have all the chaos emeralds and at least 50 rings saved, you can press the face buttons while in the air to turn into super sonic! In this state, sonic will turn all golden and much more faster and powerful, he will go much more faster and cannot be hurt by anything and I tell you anything! The level design has changed alot since the first title, Each world now consists of 2 levels instead of 3! The first level being a platform level, and the second level being the main boss level, I have no problem with this, but it makes me feel that there are rarely any platforming action to each world, unless you count the first bit of Act 2, before you get to the boss! Now to the bosses, they are pretty darn tough, you will need some thinking and timing in order to beat these guys! The game also offers a versus mode where one player is sonic and the other player is tails, and you guys pick any of the available levels and race eachother to the finish! Each level has tons of items to collect, including shields, rings, extra lives, and so on. Oh yeah, in order to play special stages, you will need 50 rings still, but you will now have to jump through this ray above the checkpoints, to access it, anyways, that is all I can say for the gameplay!

Graphics-10/10
The graphics are simply put amazing, everything has really changed since the first title and I think that is really important when making a sequel (I:E Ratchet and clank going commando) But anyways, everything in this sequel is better then ever, looking sharp as a tack and  bursting with color and everything! But anyways, as for the levels and such, They are an absolute blast to play through and run in and I think you will all agree with me! The levels this time around arrange from hills, casinos, underwater temples, power plants, and so on! Now as for the actual character sprites, they look pretty darn good as well! Sonic looks the same, Tails is a pretty cool radical guy, Eggman is your typical ego-maniac scientist obsessed with ruling the world, and so on!  The HUD in the game is pretty self explanatory, it displays your current score, how many rings you have obtained in the level, and last but not least, How many lives you have left in the whole game. Sonic has been a kids and family friendly series, so why not this one?

Sound-8/10
As always, the soundtrack in this game is extremely catchy and really helps you prepare for each level and boss after the last, and I think that is a huge plus! But anyways, the sound in this game is really catchy like all sonic games, Each level's song really fits the overall feel and mood of the level you are playing through and I think that is important in sonic games like this. Now as for the sound effects, they are pretty spot-on as well! You get some typical ones like the jump, the ring, the dash, and so on! The music in these games never gets repetitive for me, and that is really for the best!

Addictiveness-9/10
Man! This game is just too much fun for me I can't take it anymore! The main reasons are a plenty, and one reason out of many is just controlling sonic himself man! Sonic is a very speedy and agile character with alot to like about him, and that is a huge plus when it comes to making a good video game character, and the second addictive fact about this game to me are the levels themselves! They all have alot to do and explore, and that is the best part about them! The game is still really fun, and I think all of you guys on vizzed board should agree.

Depth-8/10
This game is believe it or not actually longer then the first game! And here is why, Well, first, This adventure is about 6-7 worlds long, so get ready for a big 1-2 hour quest filled with fun adventure and everything else. Second, the game offers a brand new fresh 2 player mode where one player is sonic and the other player is tails, and you guys pick any level from the game and race eachother to the finish! Sequels always have more then the first game, and this is NO exception!

Difficulty-7/10
Of course like always, the game can be really challenging at points, and one prime example for me is in the metropolis zone, I was playing one time and I kept getting tossed around by these bumpers over and over again with no way to get out! The primary yet allusional way is just to leave your genesis on running until the time limit reaches 9:99, problem solved. Some of those pesky bosses can be pretty though as well! But don't worry, sonic is fun when it is challenging! But not like Jak 2 challenging!

Overall-10/10
You must buy this game now, nuff said! It is truly one of the greatest sonic games you can get on the genesis today! And here is why, I gave this game a 10 because everything it has for you to do then the first sonic! The game offers super sonic, more bigger levels, a lengthier adventure, a 2 player mode, and so on! So anyways, this has been RedHotToddy's 113th review, and well see you guys later!
