Awesome-Kid : Well since I have no idea what a "Supper Nintendo" is, I'll vote for the Sega Genesis. It has classic games like Sonic The Hedgehog, it was one of the first consoles I owned, and unlike "Supper Nintendo," it has good graphics. 

I like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System better because of the sound and the games on it. Some games on the Sega Genesis such as Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures have the same graphics ripped from the SNES but the sound is off-key. In Pac-Man 2, the worst part of the sound is Pac-Man's voice. It doesn't sound very funny and high-pitched like it did in the SNES version.

How is there any debate on which system is better?  SNES provided massive amounts of entertainment compared to Sega.  Look at the sales numbers from units sold, games sold, variety of games, franchises, etc.

SNES continued Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, and had better sports games like NHL 94 (greatest hockey of all time).  It's a continuation of Nintendo that dominated video games until Sony showed up to play.

Sega?  They have Sonic and Mortal Kombat.  That's it.  There are no other good, redeeming games from Sega that aren't completely outclassed by SNES titles.

This thread is over.  It's like asking if NBA or WNBA is better.

warmaker : I have to disagree. Genesis had LOTS of games that could outclass a good amount of SNES games. Also, Just because Nintendo sold more and had more franchises, it doesn't mean SNES was better.

Back to the thread, I'll go with Genesis. I grew up playing some of it's games and had lots of fun doing it.

Oh, I'll move this to Game crazyness, by the way. Since this question fits better there.

You are correct about the Money / Business end of this topic.

But I have to mention the Controls on the S.N.E.S. were almost always better than the Genesis. For fighting game fans that is essential.

Other than that? The rest tends to be taste.

The S.N.E.S. Library is Massive Compared to the games I know of that exist on the Genesis.
Again. That is just taste.
There are gems that I wish I had the chance to own Like the Genesis Strider games or Comix Zone or Eternal Champions, Vector Man... Just check out my Selections on my Game Profile.

But Through all of that...
I have to go with the S.N.E.S. for it's controls.
The D-Pad is light and Very responsive to my touch.
On the Genesis? I needed a very Heavy hand and Heavy Fingers.
The Joy-pad solved allot of my issues. (When playing over a friends house.)
But
Even then the control device seemed to suggest that my hands were too small. I had to strech my fingers to splitting in order to pull off the slightest Button Combos. (Great for guitar playing fans. Not so great for the common man.)

That is just the Control device.
I have other stuff to bring up But for today? That's all folks.

I think that the super nintendo is the better one! Let the AVGN explain!

It mostly has to do with preference. Both companies had great franchises that delivered both quality and quantity games. If you count all the major players Nintendo obviously wins because they have the most "Successful" franchises out of the two consoles. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, those three franchises alone have in fact carried Nintendo to the top of the gaming industry especially Mario. However, Genesis had many great franchises as well that eventually died out due to a lack of a large budget to keep it going which is why Nintendo is usually favored to being the better company. Though no one can forget the very popular genesis tiles which to name a few would be Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, Soulcaliber, and Resident evil. So like I said it is mostly preference and budget differences. I am sure Nintendo was able to sell more because it had a larger budget from the start and was backed by many franchises who did more than just games and television shows. So for me it is a clear draw.

While there are a games I like on both systems, I feel like SNES had a much better line up and variety when came to games.
One of my favorite games of all time, Secret of Mana, is on SNES. I dunno if Genesis really has an action RPG that compares to that.

I vote for the Super Nintendo. I have always been a Nintendo fan. I like Nintendo better than all other video games companies. I also do not like Sega that much, so my vote goes to the SNES.

Genesis every day of the week! That is a big shocker coming from GenesisJunkie! I have always like Sega's consoles much better then any other. Alot of people say stuff like Super Nintendo has better graphics, better sound, bla bla bla. That is just not true. The console may have the ability to have better graphics but very few games actually had better graphics. The classic Genesis game Gun Star Hero just wouldn't have worked on the SNES.

I don't hate Nintendo or any of their consoles, I just don't like them as much as others. My Soup just sits on a shelf collecting dust, it just seems like a lot of work to unhook my 32x, CD, and Genesis just to plug in the Soup and play games that I don't like as much.

This is off topic but the Sega Master System and even their hand held the Game Gear had better graphics then the NES but no one ever talks about that. 

This seems familiar. Anyway, I feel like Super Nintendo had their gems and the Genesis had theirs, but my personal favorite is Sega Genesis. I grew up with the Genesis and had the most fun with that.

I would have to say that I preferred the Super Nintendo over Sega Genesis, though it's a bit biased because I only ever owned a SN while my friends owned a Sega. SNES had Zelda and Megaman, which is enough to convince me, but it also has a wealth of awesome RPG games that Genesis lacked. I also never really enjoyed sonic(except for sonic pinball), and I thought the sega genesis controller was made for someone with 4 thumbs.

It probably just depends on which one you owned when you were a kid.

I would say Super Nintendo because of the amount of SNES Games you can play on the Super Nintendo!

The SNES had the Genesis beat slightly in both graphics and sound, but the faster processor in the Genesis allowed for smoother controls.  Someone posted above that SNES had better controls and for fighting games that was important, well except the controls were always slightly chunkier on the SNES.  In MKII some of the combos were near impossible to pull of on SNES while on Genesis they were much more like the arcade.  But in all honest I just let everybody have their own opinions because this argument should have ended long ago, yet I feel I will still hear of it years from now.  I like both

Generally the SNES was more powerful and it had most of the exclusives.

Both consoles were great but overall the Super Nintendo is better because of the games it had.

Both systems have great games and cool qualities about them, but theres no doubt in my mind that SNES is the superior system as far as graphics and especially sound go.

Overall both systems have a great library of games and I have enjoyed playing both for all these years.

One thing I will say, both systems had a lot of great RPG's to play on them.

Genesis tended to have some titles that are different than what you would normally see in Videogames like. Vectorman, Comix Zone, and Haunting Starring Poulterguy (To name a few)
