Just search online (if you're on a pc. If you're on a tablet then search for free texting apps) for a free texting service. They'll give you your own texting number, which you'd give to fb. It wouldn't require a phone of any kind.

Seriously online communities don't need to know your real name that's the point of online security, but if you're just willingly giving that stuff away then what's stopping telephone marketers from hacking the site and getting every persons phone number so you get 10 phone calls a day selling vacuum cleaners with carpet shampoo that sprays from the back of it. My suggestion, don't join a social networking site.
