Overall (9.3)
Pokemon Emerald 386 is a hack of Pokemon Emerald. What makes Pokemon Emerald 386 different is that you can obtain all 386 Pokemon from generations I - III in regular, single player game play. There are no other changes such as the appearance or story, so this hack is perfect for people that want to play the regular Emerald version, but still want to "catch 'em all!"
Graphics (9)
The graphics in this hack are exactly the same as Pokemon Emerald, so I'll review the graphics the same way I would if it was Pokemon Emerald. The graphics in this game are amazing. The difference between this and Crystal, the last Pokemon game, is incredible. The color has been perfected since Crystal and everything looks a lot less pixely (Is that a word?). The graphics could be a little better, but overall they are very good, especially for a Game Boy Advance game.
Sound (8)
I was never really a fan of the music in Pokemon games, but for some reason I like the sound in Pokemon Emerald 386. It has a similar feel to the earlier games, but it seems to flow smoother and sound less, well, annoying.
Addictiveness (10)
This is one of the most addictive games in the Retro Game Room. You will probably beat the Pokemon League in a few days because you wont be able to leave the computer. If you read my Pokemon Yellow review, you would know that I often use the formula fun + depth / 2 = addictiveness. In this case, fun = 9, depth = 10, therefore addictiveness = 9.5. Since 9.5 isn't an option, I round up to 10.
Story (9)
You are given a starter Pokemon by Professor Birch. You travel around the Hoenn region. You go from city to city challenging gyms and collecting badges. You then try to beat the Pokemon League and become the champion. Of course, there needs to be a bad guy. In this game, there are two evil organisations, Team Magma and Team Aqua. Team Magma wants to create more land, while Team Aqua wants to flood the world with water. Long story short you defeat them and save the world. I know what you're thinking "But tgags123, how is this any different than Emerald?" Answer: You can catch all 386 Pokemon. You no longer how to stress about what starter to choose, because you can get all of them! You don't have to try to cheat in a Celebi, Mew, or Jirachi, because you can catch them in regular single player game play!
Depth (10)
Like Emerald, Emerald 386 has a lot of things you can do. Aside from the main story, you can also catch all the legendary Pokemon, try to get to Mirage Island, and try to completely fill up the Pokedex, something that is impossible in Pokemon Emerald.
Difficulty (6)
Much like Emerald, Emerald 386 is a very easy game. The first time I played I beat it in three days. This game is not recommended if you are looking for a challenge. Actually, I would avoid Pokemon games altogether, because they tend to be easy. The only "challenge" in this game is obtaining all 386 Pokemon.
Pokemon Emerald 386 is a very fun, though rather easy, game. I strongly recommend it if you want to try to catch them all. It is a great game to play in your free time. Give it a shot, I'm sure you will love it. Overall (9.3)
