Local Mods :If this has to be moved to the Manga forum (Because this is about Pokemon manga), then please do so.

So I've been looking at videos about the censored Japanese Manga that I think will just shock you. Therefore, I decided to share this info with you guys. So there's some books which are Pokemon Manga from 1997 that were originally Japan's creations. Then America's ACTUALLY GOOD CENSORSHIP took care of some of the parts.

To start off, on one of the books, Misty...A TWELVE YEAR OLD is taking a bath with her Pokemon, then when she gets out...prepare to lose a bit of respect for Pokemon but...Misty says she wants her...I can't even say it to "evolve..." Ptts. EVOLVE FROM WHAT? See, this is why the Japanese censorship is terrible. Also, look at this video of the original Pokemon anime that is Japan's work of censored Pokemon episodes. There's also other reasons of why their censorship is terrible.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv2nfhH623E

Back to the topic...so on another book of Pokemon manga, Red meets Misty's sisters. You notice that the design for the female characters is...very perverted. This was later changed of course. But I just wonder what was going through the artist's head back when they were creating the book.

So most of this stuff is very perverted, so I'll just cut to the chase. What do you think about this? If you're not sure... watch this, it'll explain everything. I'm so glad this is not in America now...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qe0Xlu9Ta4

I think this is just terrible. This is why I hated Pokemon at first, but at least America got this gone for good.

Oh, man. Japan is really... awkward. If you watch any of their anime or manga, nudity is always in one of their episodes. Have you heard of that Japanese card, in which Misty is... urgh... unclothed underwater with a Starmie, I think. I would post a picture, but, I don't want to be banned for posting sexual themes... America does handle censorship, well, though.

Remember you are talking about Japan here. One of the main selling points of almost anything that comes out of there is sex appeal. Kids in Japan are so used to that kind of thing and parents even encourage it. Remember that the anime and manga that is meant for teenagers elsewhere are children's books in Japan.

Personally, I just ignore it. The number one rule of media is that sex sells so the authors were most likely thinking about the money when they decided to produce the content.

I'm not sure why you would be surprised about this. Most Magna is VERY suggestive. Digimon is the same way. Back then, and even still today things are censored a lot when it comes to the US version. It's just easier to see the uncensored versions nowadays.

This is kind of silly to be honest. Yet this isn't the first time I have seen stuff like this on disney. There are videos with subliminal messages and other weird stuff. It is pretty creepy actually.

But yeah it is weird though. There are like hidden words and images that are like sexual and stuff. I don't know whats up with disney putting stuff like that in the movies. But I will say I have seen it before and it is weird. There are whole youtube videos just dedicated to this sort of thing. Weird right?

I can't take a stance from an American perspective. While yes, in America, we are overly protective of what our children see, hear and watch, I sometimes think that we don't have to be THAT overprotective. We also claim anything that looks sexual is intentional, which is oftentimes false. This manga was continued separately from the games, which were originally supposed to be for older audiences. For this reason, it makes sense that something targeted at older audiences would hold a lot of sexual themes. Twelve year olds often act in similar ways in middle school, so I can't say that their portrayal is inaccurate. To make an argument about this being 'bad' we have to understand the cultural differences between America and Japan. I think a lot of understanding is lost when we immediately jump to calling it a bad thing because it doesn't fit into our norms.

Hoo boy...the banned stuff. As everyone should know, if Japan or any other country makes a successful Manga, Anime, or TCG, before America decides to broadcast it, they have a set of people who watch EVERYTHING and note down everything that's not suited for people...This would be most of Yu-Gi-Oh!. 3/4th's of the card's that they made were edited. Now I know that Isn't pokemon, I'm just trying to give an example. Japan has a more..."unique" way of looking at life. Thankfully we have editors haha

Yes, I have seen that video before. Well, what do you expect? Pokemon was made by the Japanese, after all. I do not mean to be racist, but they are known for these... types of media.

Well, you also have to understand that Japan is a bit different. Stuff like this is allowed and not looked down upon, we see it as bad because we were raised that nudity and suggestive themes in a children/teens show/manga/game are bad, but in Japan it's normal.

It's mostly to do with cultural differences, mostly ages and media in Japan...

Something subtle is fine... Japan seems to not care much about the effects of things like this on other people. However, though I've not actually seen anything about the Pokémon manga that fits much into this category, if there was something like proper nudity with things showing or stuff, it just would not work.

Maybe I'm being racist, but Japan is clearly a perverted place. Just pointing that out there.

goodboy : You can't go ahead and call them awkward. They have their ways of doing things, we have ours. Manga usually contains that sort of business anyway.
