Why did Capcom feel that it was necessary to make six Mega Man games on the NES?! The SNES was out for three years by the time this game came out. Regardless, this was my third game in the Classic series I got for my NES. I wanted this game the most for two reasons; one, the music in Flame Man’s stage was awesome and two, this was one of the few NES games I’m older than, by two months (the USA version came out in March 1994).

Overall
Mega Man’s sixth and final entry to the NES games was able to end the 8-bit games on a positive not. The game has amazing graphics, music, and controls, but a less than desirable difficulty for fans of the series. However, if you’re new to the series this difficulty will be perfect. I feel like Mega Man 6 gets a bad rap for being unoriginal and having a crappy story, but compared to 5, 6 feels like it has more effort put into it and while the story may be lame, I don’t know why that’s bad. It’s been Dr. Wily for every single Classic series game except for V of the Game Boy.
You can play Mega Man 6 on the NES or on the Anniversary Collection of the PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox. For some reason 6 isn’t on the VC or PSN yet, but hopefully it will be soon.
Mega Man 6 scores an 8.5/10 (Above great).

Graphics
Some of the best on the NES. It’s on par, if not slightly better than 5’s, but I question some of the color choices for the stages. Mr. X stage 2 comes to mind since it’s mostly pink colored. Speaking of colors, they change if you revisit them. The Robot Masters and bosses all look great and stages have excellent backgrounds.

Music
One of my favorites in the series. Along with 2 and 3, I think 6 has the best overall soundtrack of the NES game and the series. The credits theme after the Robot Master roll was remixed for the intro for Mega Man 7.

Addictiveness:

Of the six NES games I go back and play 6 a ton. Basically what I have to say about the replayvaule I have said in the last four reviews of the other NES Mega Man games, so to summarize it, Mega Man 6 has a high replayvalue.

Story

The first annual Robot Master Tournament is held to test the design capabilities of the greatest robotics engineers. The tournament is hosted by Mr. X with many strong Robot Masters participating. Dr. Light sends Mega Man to supervise the event since Dr. Light is a pacifist. Near the end of the tournament Mr. X announces that he has taken control over the eight finalist Robot Masters and plans to use them to take over the world. Light sends Mega Man to stop Mr. X’s plans.

Depth
Again, Of the six NES games I go back and play 6 a ton. Basically what I have to say about the replayvaule I have said in the last four reviews of the other NES Mega Man games, so to summarize it, Mega Man 6 has a high replayvalue.

Difficulty
Certainly one of the easier Mega Man games. On par with Mega Man 2, but harder than Mega Man II on the Game Boy. Robot Masters in 6 are all fairly easy, but Tomahawk Man can give me a bit of trouble from time to time. The Mr. X stages and the first two Wily stages are also challenging. I remember having such a tough time in the X stage 3 and Wily stage 1 the first time playing. You fight all three of Wily’s forms, but they’re all super easy. If you’re maxed out E-Tanks you won’t have a problem. I even played through the whole game with zero E-Tanks and I managed to still beat Wily.
Where Mega Man 5 gave you a crap ton of extra lives, Mega Man 6 gives you a lot of E-Tanks. I had nine before I got to the X stages.

Tips
In Mr. X stages 3 and 4 there are boxes you can use Power Mega Man to push the boxes so they block the pillars where the bird bots pop out of.
With the Game Genie code: EZKKIVKG LLVKATOL AXEGLVTU and pressing A once the black screen appears you will open 6's debug menu where the sound test is.

General Game Play
New features in 6 include, as I mentioned the Rush adaptors, Rush Power Mega Man and Rush Jet Mega Man. You get Rush Power from Flame Man and Rush Jet from Plant Man. Similar to Rush Coil, Jet, and Marine these adaptors help Mega Man get past obstacles and go to new areas of the stages. Beat returns in this game relatively unchanged from 5, but now he kills enemies in one hit, but the amount of energy used varies depending on the enemy’s health. To get Beat you have to defeat the REAL Robot Masters: Tomahawk, Yamato, Knight, and Centaur. In order to fight the real Robot Masters you will need either the Rush Jet adaptor or Rush Power adaptor. Some other changes include the Mega Buster’s size being shrunk and weakened slightly, a welcome fix since 5’s buster seemed to powerful.
Many stages in 6 have split paths that may lead to mini-bosses, items, or the real Robot Master. In Tomahawk Man’s stage there is a secret room with Proto Man waiting to give you the weapon energy adaptor item which will automatically refill the Master Weapon that has the lowest energy when you pick up a weapon energy capsule. Many of the stages have gimmicks to them like 5’s. Flame Man’s stage has pools of oil on parts of the floor that can be set on fire by certain enemies that become instant death spots. Centaur Man’s stage has a reverse water section where the water is rising and lowering on the celling rather than on the floor.
When you select the Power or Jet adaptors a small cutscene happens where Rush merges with Mega Man. It happens each time you equip an adaptor, but if you hold START when selecting the adaptor it skips the cutscene. In these adaptor forms Mega Man can’t slide or charge his Mega Buster, but in the power form you can charge your fists and perform a super punch which breaks certain blocks. The Power adaptor is fun to use against Curlingers in Blizzard Man’s stage and against Knight Man.
The games controls are still great, but the sliding feels a little off. Not that it’s hard to perform, but you can’t jump or shoot right after it most of the time like in 3-5. The password system is back to normal like the even numbered entries in the NES series. We still have eight final stages split into two castles, but only six stages have bosses at the end. Stage 7 (Wily stage 3) is just the Robot Master rematch and stage 8 (Wily stage 4) is the final battle with Dr. Wily…until Mega Man 7.
The Robot Master weapons are fun to use and better than 5’s. Even the generic shield weapon, Plant Barrier has some usefulness. The only one I find myself not using is the Yamato Spear since it’s basically a buster shot. The Knight Crush can be aimed in multiple directions similar to Shadow Blade and Pharaoh Shot.

Funny little story I wrote
Chapter One - Catching the Bus
Megaman is standing at the front door to Dr. Light's Lab. He has a backpack on, and is visibly upset.
Megaman: Okay, so why do I have to do this again?
Dr. Light: It's an experiment to see how well your AI will integrate with normal teenagers. You are fifteen, after all...
Megaman: I gotta go in as a freshman?! Aw, crap...
Light: Just go with it, Rock. You'll have fun, I promise.
Megaman: I can't even drive there?
Light: It wouldn't be consistent with the role you're trying to play. The bus is your only way to school.
Megaman: Yeah, I guess you're right.
Light: I can drive you...
Megaman: It's okay. You don't have to do that, Doc. You'd probably just end up embarassing me, anyway.
Light: I loved high school, myself.
Megaman: Yeah, I still can't believe you had that beard back then, Doc.
(Shows yearbook pic of Doc)
Light: Heh...I used to sneak food into class with this thing. (Feels at his chin hair again.) Hey, lookee here! (He pulls out a wad of some grey, nondescript meatlike substance. It smells a bit like hardboiled eggs.) It's some of my old cafeteria's salisbury steak! (He sniffs it, gagging slightly.) I think I'll get Roll to dispose of this...you should go ahead, Rock, or you'll miss your bus...
Megaman: Right.
>
At the bus stop, he sees Zero standing there, dressed in plain clothes, trying as best he can to get his huge blonde locks into some semblance of kemptness. X is sitting on the bench nearby, dressed simlilarly, and coughing, it seems.) Hey...Zero? What are you doing here at the bus stop? And a hundred years in the past, for that matter?
Zero : Ah, the writer wanted to put us both in here 'cause he likes us...something about omnipotence over whatever happens to us in his stories or something...some kind of union thing, I guess...
Megaman: Right. Anyway...having a bad hair day?
Zero : (glares) Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep this mane smooth and flowin'? If I were workin' today, I'd just call in sick or something...I'm just not me without my cool hair...
Megaman: (sighs) Anyway...X, you okay? That cough sounds pretty bad.
X: (still coughing violently) Hey...*cough*...hey Rock...*cough*...
Megaman: What the heck's the matter? You got a weird computer-virus stomach flu or somethin'?
X: My...*cough*...my voice...
Megaman: Your voice?
X: Yeah...It's been acting up again...
Megaman: Hey, it'll be okay. High-schoolers half-expect freshmen to still have their squeaky voices, anyway.
Xloudly, shrieking) I DO NOT HAVE A SQUEAKY VOICE!!!!!!
MegamanEyes are wide after X finishes. A window nearby is broken, and Tango now lies dead on the sidewalk) O' course not, X...they all make fun of you for no reason...
X: You're doing it again!
Zero : Shut up over there for a minute, will ya? I can't hear myself think over your blabbing! Why don't you take a few shots of WD-40 for that voice of yours, X? Geeez...
X is infuriated and rushes over, clawing at Zero.Thankfully, Megaman holds him back from the neck of the turtleneck X is wearing. Throwing X finally back onto the bench, Megaman uses Time-Stopper to freeze X in place.
Megaman: Time-Stopper!!
Zero : Funny...I thought you lost all your special weapons after each game. What gives?
Megaman: Ah well, the writer needed some quick way to keep X out of the conversation for awhile. That was the best he could do.
Zero : Oh. Well, anyway, the bus ought to be here any minute... Oh, Lord, does my hair look okay?
Megaman just stares.
Megaman: And you WONDER why people think you and X are gay...
Zero : Alia, I am SO going to kill you for using up all of my quadruple-strength hair gel...
Megaman: Shut up and act natural. Here comes our ticket to a day of hell.
The bus pulls up. Megaman steps on board. Zero follows him closely.
Driver: You gentlemen got fare?
Zero : Great. Exact change, I suppose?
Driver: Yep.
Zero (sighs): Perfect. (Digs in his pockets.) I've got a five-dollar bill, a battery, and a wad of lint. Will that do?
Driver: Where you boys goin'?
Megaman: Ryutaro's High School, ma'am. Other side of town.
Driver: Well, this ain't exact change to get there, but...I'll be willing to let it slide if Red Boy here gives me a smoochie...
Megaman: It can't be worse than having to walk, I guess. Go ahead, Zero. We've got no other way of getting across town.
Zero : Ever heard of a taxi, genius?
Megaman: They're all down this week. Something about Wily's robots having a field day with them all downtown. I should probably be checking that out, but...I guess this is more important to the Doc.
Zero : How 'bout teleportation?
Megaman: We can only go places where we've already been...and I haven't been to the high school, and I'm pretty sure you haven't...
Zero : (grumble)
Driver: So what's it gonna be, boys?
Zero : Um, Rock, can I see you...over HERE...just a second?
Megaman walks over. Zero chokes him around the neck.
Now THIS is for your bright ideas! I AM NOT kissing that woman! She's absolutely hideous! She looks like she could be Frankenstein's grandmother!
Driver: Well?
Megaman: I...have a plan.
Zero : Huh?
Megaman: I know how we can get this bus.
Megaman whispers to Zero. Moments later...
Zero : All right, Ms. Driver. Here. (He stands up, walks up to the driver's seat. Sighs loudly and crosses himself.) Kiss your red boy.
Driver(lunges forward): Hot dang!! I got me a man!
Zero dodges her and pulls the door handle quickly. She falls out of her seat and through the open doors, then continues tumbling out. She rolls until she hits the bench that Megaman froze X on.
Zero : Yee-hah! (Shuts the doors.) We got us a bus!
He drives off, squealing the bus tires.
Time-Stopper finally wears off of X.
Driver: Yahoo! C'mere, handsome!
X: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAIGH!!!!!!!!!!!! (Runs away, the driver chasing him off.)
End Chapter 1.

On an unrelated note, maybe this would belong in the graphics section, the background at the start of Mr. X stage 1 looks somewhat similar to the intro stage of Mega Man X.

How are you making these things so fast, are you competing for a jersey? I think you may be using the tabbing technique which isn't allowed. Anyways about the review, I think it is really solid and well made and I think you did a great job of making it if this is your own work. You have a lot of detail and this is just a massive review. You have a lot to say about each category of the game and you put it into such great detail which I think is really great. Why do you have that little story at the end by the way. Anyways nice job...

Trollzorz1337 : OMG! The same portion was plagiarized again!  And it's the same part that you keep plagiarizing! Why are you doing this man?

Once again here is that link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1832280/1/Megaman-and-Friends-in-High-School

I'm not going to summon the locals again because there is already one who is taking care of this.

There is a portion at the end of your review that says a story I wrote and it is very long. Did you actually write that, it is like half of the word could and it doesn't belong there. It is a huge portion of your review and I don't think it needs to be there. Don't keep doing this or you will face consequences for it. I don't want to see you get in trouble for this.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
