You guys should certainly check out Sum41. One of the best bands I've ever encountered, Alongside Skillet, FalloutBoy, Green Day and Sleeping with Sirens.

My all-time favorite would have to be Dream Theater. They have the some of the best instrumentation that I've heard in a band, and their songs are always fun to listen to. They require some time though, their songs are not what I would call short. I can count how many sub-5 minute pieces they've written with my fingers.

Rammstein is also great. I saw them at MSG back in 2011 and they can out on a show. Also, they are the one of the reasons why I am learning German. The other reasons are Megaherz, Eisbrecher, Laibach, Equilibrium, and Finterforst. Germany produces some great music.

Edit: I forgot to add Triphon, for a new band. I think they have great potential, and their first two albums I think are great works. They know how to mix clean and harsh vocals well and their songs can pack a heavy punch.

I smiled a bit upon reading the title. I'm just really appalled at the kind of music that plays nowadays. I despise Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber,  and One Direction in that order. Seriously, if you wanted to kill me, just play one of their songs...it's that simple....but that's besides the point.

Some of my favorite groups include Linkin Park, Greenday. Coldplay, Metallica and Three Days Grace. I also like the Imagine Dragons as well. I also like 80s artists like Queen, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Van Halen. In my opinion, the 80s and 90s had some of the best music. I like a lot of other groups as well, but these are some of the most notable.

It's really hard to choose ONE favorite, so I will narrow it down to a handful off the top of my head.

Nirvana - This is one of the first bands I REALLY got into and saw live multiple times. Great band who's live shows are even better than their recorded albums.

Pearl Jam

Green Day

Metallica

Beastie Boys

The Beatles

Ramones

The Clash

Hands down Led Zeppelin.  Learned to play drums listening to their live stuff (Royal Albert Hall, How The West Was Won...)
But Iron Maiden is a close second.  It's so glorious... and British...

Right now it is hard, but my favorite band is either Green Day, Maroon 5, or R.E.M.

I really like all 3 and I like a lot of their songs, so it is really hard to choose a favorite.

And lol, One Direction xD

"- As in the real bands with the punk rock not like the horrible boy bands like One direction ok!!!!"
While I do hate music like that, I don't think it's fair to intentionally exclude people who like it.

Anyway, my favorite bands, in no particular order, are:
Metallica
Megadeth
Anthrax
Rammstein
Pantera
Hammerfall
Nightwish
Disturbed
Iron Maiden
Ensiferum
Skyclad
Cage the Elephant
Avenged Sevenfold
Lamb of God
Nirvana
Motley Crue
Kamelot
Ghost (a.k.a. Ghost B.C.)
AC/DC
Five Finger Death Punch
So yeah, huge list, but that's just how my mind works. Favorites are super hard for me.
