Oh my gosh, I am finally getting the chance to review my first game! What is really ironic is that this is the first Pokemon game I have played! I have has so many good experiences with this game. I have caught them all, got all the Pokemon to level 50 or higher, and I have beaten the Elite 4 seven times! This game is very addicting and will keep you on the Gameboy for hours on end!
Graphics: 9 I gave the graphics on this game a nine because they were just starting out and they are fantastic. For the time, they really bring out the potential in the later graphics of the later games and really replicate the image of the anime Pokemon. Even though this game is in black and white, you will still be amazed by how the graphics card is utilized in this game. My only gripe with the graphics is that when your Pokémon's sprite comes out, it looks like a mess of pixels. Other than that, it looks great!
Sound: 9 I would have to give the sound on this game a 9 because most of the Pokémon's sounds are very similar, but they all have their own distinct call. The in game music is very good. Each place on the map has a distinct tone that will get your head bopping with the music. The gym battles, Team Rocket battles, and the Elite 4 battles are the best because they, in my opinion, the best sound in the game. The sound is quite very good and I would recommend anyone to put the songs from the game to your IPod.
Addictiveness: 10 Oh man. This game has so much to offer. Catch all the Pokemon, play the slot machines for hours on end, beat the Elite 4, level up all your pokemon, catch all the legendary Pokemon, trade with your friends, you have at least 40+ hours of game play ahead of you! When I first played this, I couldn't keep my hands off my Gameboy until one of my parents had to pry me off of it. This game is very addictive if you stay with it until the end and become the champion!
Story: 9 I gave the story portion of my review a 9 because it is a very broad story-line. You are destined to be the hero, so you set off on your adventure. You catch pokemon along the way and, eventually, become the champion. Not much more to be said. Team Rocket has made me laugh so much, so that is why the story is so high. If Team Rocket was non existent, then this game would get an 8 on story.
Depth: 7 This game doesn't go into much depth other than striving to be the champion of the Pokemon League. Sure, it does go in depth in terms of species of Pokemon, but other than that, it doesn't go much further than that.
Difficulty: 6 This game isn't very hard. You just have to level up your Pokemon in moderation and you will beat everyone very easily. I have only lost 2 battles in the entire game. The last 2 Elite 4 members. Other than that, it isn't very hard at all. Except, the Pokemon Mansion was sort of confusing at times, but I got through it.
Overall: 10 Overall, I give this game a 10/10, despite the minor flaws, which is acceptable to a first generation game. This game is one of the best games on the original Gameboy. I will never forget the time when I first got the game and turned it on and saw Ash and Charizard standing there and Ash flipping the Poke ball up and down. Ahh, the memories. Anyways, great game and I recommend this game to anyone who plays pokemon! Oh my gosh, I am finally getting the chance to review my first game!
