The world will not end in 2012. It is a theory, and as Neyro said it happens every year. If it was more serious then there would be much more research being done on it.

Back in my freshman year of High School, I heard that a translation of the Qaran said armageddon was coming in 2010. Considering the recent terrorist activity, it is possible that they are trying to manufacture armageddon themselves, that they beleive that they must bring it to the world.

i got a theory for ya its called the Web-Bot theory now the web-bot theory is kinda weird and it sounds not all that far from what could happen but i still think that it is a totaly false theory.... the Web-Bot theory: in 2009 small nuclear wars will start to erupt and start a chain of events that destroys the earth in some way.

now i think that theory could possibly be true but i also think that it's total bulls*** because it was thought up from a computer program in the 90's.the computer program it's self basically searches every part of the internet and i mean every part, and from the data it collect on what ever the user puts into it to find it predicts whats going to happen.for example it predicted 9/11,Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy,New York blackout of 2003,Anthrax scares at the U.S. House of Representatives, and Hurricane Katrina.

oh yeah and the polar shift theory is Bulls*** as well because our earth has gone through a lot of polar shifts in it's life time.

ok, persnally I really doubt this will happen, the mayan calendar has been wrong before. also, people thought all computers would melt down as of 1/1/00 due to the date switch from 99 to 00 yearwise. O.K I've made my point bye.

I heard an interesting interpretation of the 2012 "disaster" theory.

They suggested that 2012 won't contain any disaster of any greater magnitude than anything we've already seen before.... but we will look back at 2012 for some event that did change the world. Maybe not in a drastic way at first... but it will be something that has long standing consequences.

No evidence to back it up (not that a lot of these theories have much to begin with )... but I think it sounds like a more realistic explanation than the dooms day ideas that some people come up with.

Just because a professor says nibiru or polar shifts are hoaxes doesn't mean they are hoaxes. Just like Obama says he will lower taxes doesn't mean he will lower taxes.

Geo, are you talking about New World Order? Thats what seems most logical to me happening in 2012.

I wasn't talking about anything in particular. The person I am referencing could have been talking about that but I'm not going to attempt to pick any particular event or group and pin it to that date.

And polar shifts exist.... you can see the effect of them in the lava that comes up from the mid-atlantic ridge... some of the rock is magnetized one way and older rock is magnetized a different way. Does a pole shift mean the end of mankind? Possibly... but I doubt it.

Well here is some eye candy of polar shifts

And it was also stated that it takes several thousand years to complete so its not like an instant thing and all hell breaking loose the day it begins.

Pretty good article: http://www.dailycommonsense.com/what-is-that-polar-shift-thing/

Those professors don't seem like professors after reading this information

I think that the 2012 theory was created by either misled or misleading scientists/scholars/etc., as are many things. When I say "misled," I mean they've interpreted the data they have wrong. When I say "misleading," I mean they've analyzed the data, they know they're wrong, but they figure they'll make a profit off of the fear the theory is causing.

For instance, scientists are still talking about an asteroid coming down that'll be big enough to destroy the planet. As 2012 looms ever nearer, the general populace becomes more and more convinced this will happen. Wouldn't it be nice for some scientists and rocket designers to come in and say they can set up a system that'll be ready by November of that particular year to deflect/destroy/disintegrate any asteroids foolish enough to look at us funny?

The end of the world has been predicted by people who claim to be in contact with aliens, the spirit world, both, dragons, alternate dimensions, and Santa Clause. OK, I made that last one up in a pathetic effort to be funny, but my point is they've all been wrong before. One person, I don't remember who, predicted that a planet called Wormwood (coincidentally, the name used for a big rock of similar description in the Bible) would crash into Earth, destroying it. This was supposed to happen in 2003. After three or so similar scheduled disasters failed to turn up, this person shut up, but I think the last prediction made was 2012.

The theories become so atrociously laughable and they've been wrong so many times before it's a joke. I'm reminded of the big global warming craze that everyone said would be a big catastrophe, but now scientists are saying that--due to natural circumstances--the earth will actually be cooling down for the next 20 to 30 years. The global warming people have talked themselves into a corner, and so will the 2012 people.

However, I do predict a disaster in 2012 - people will panic, go out of control, and attempt to get away from a catastrophe that will never happen. We'll see looting, riots, violence, and all forms of mass hysteria. The 2012 people, instead of seeing the fruits of their theories, will fuel the fire until something breaks, and they'll STILL say the Maya predicted all of it.

Also, I can't help but wonder if it'll be used for some kind of political joke when December 2012 actually rolls around, because that's around the time the next President will be elected. I bet any one of you 50 Viz that we'll see the image of a Maya calendar ending with the face of one of the 2012 Presidential candidates.

But really what tips the scale for me is the Bible. Christians should remember that it states quite clearly in the Bible that no one - not even Jesus - knows the day nor the hour except for the Father, known to us as Jehovah/יְהֹוָה. And thanks to the Bible, when the signs start to appear we should recognize them. For example, the Bible says there will be confusion, wars and rumors of wars, and false prophets.

I think that if anything happens in 2012 it will cause a mass panic because people are such idiots. I actually have that in the back story to my novel that I am writing (set in 2031), and it is both sad and funny.

But no, the polar shift has happened before, I believe even during humanities existance, and I don't think it would kill us off. Of course, that will happen eventually, because no dominate species lasts forever.

I still love the idea that the calendar ended because they ran out of room, I mean, really, how can you expect it to go on forever. The calendar could just be for the time between the galactic alignments (I think the last one was around then), and why would they make a new calendar until it got closer? So many rational, and in fact simple explanations that just get tossed aside because no one bothers to pay attention to Occam's Razor (the simplest answer is usually the correct one).

well, most interpretations of the Mayan calendar say that it is the end of an "age" of the earth. It ran from around 3000 BC until 2012 AD. Guess what happened around 3000 BC according to both their beliefs and a commonly held belief around the world.

The Flood.

I don't know the exact date that the flood was supposed to have happened and I doubt anyone does.... and the Mayans probably didn't know either, but the Flood would be a fantastic date for the end of the previous age of the Earth. Humans didn't die off during the worldwide flood, that did or didn't happen. (that could be a whole other thread altogether ) Basically what I'm getting at is that while something catastrophic might happen at the end of 2012 (whether human or naturally caused) I don't believe it will end the existence of humans on the Earth.

I see a lot of theories for 2012 but wow nothing like this. There are a couple of theories I don't see coming about. First one the obvious end of the world for humans,(by the way who is killing off earths living creatures). The ability for all people's minds to be unlock (can see spirits, a better understanding of existence). An appearance of what we call "Aliens" even though we don't know what they are really. Maybe some ancient creature rising from the deep sea. Or the day oil runs out and WWIII will start. I hope people know that this will happen, unless we work together and put our meaningless differences apart. Very unlikely though!!!!

We humans, time on this planet might be up, "Think" if oil runs out, major earth atmosphere destroying missiles go off. What will happen to this era's way of life. Many people cannot live without pharmaceutical drugs, electricity and other things. If an event so devastating to "Man" yet life prolonging to nature happens, what will we do. let's say only some million humans are left what will you do. Will you hunt, farm, or kill one another. The "Era" of car riding and oil wasting is almost done. In fact wait when oil is scarce will China, India, USA, Canada, South America, Mexico say "Hey lets not use oil." No!!! First is anyone ready to live like a farmer, a hunter. In my eyes no!! Will people be okay living as our ancestors did. No not even close to everybody. Trade between countries, Industry, Money will become useless when oil runs out. Alternative fuel sources will not solve the problem either. Why do we need oil if that were true. A war of "comfort" will happen and very soon not later people.

The problem with living like the old days in today's world is simple AIDs, disease, etc.. Without technology in full access (if any, thieves will take things), how can mankind create future Generations when they won't live very long to do so. There is a crisis if the way the world is today stops (although it is necessary). If human kind is reduced to the millions think how will the survivors live. Farming seems like the best solution, but are you up for the hard work? Or after the war you keep some false hope of using the oil to do what??? Right now to prove my point this simple fact rains. ARE WE CONTROLLED BY TEMPTATION?? Can people right now say they can live without (T.V., Computers, Cell phones, Cars, Buses, Planes, Electricity) I think not. Too many people say they are "BORED" with these things. What will you do without them. Also please don't think "foolishly" 'I will still have electricity', because you must be crazy to think that this is what matters. Food is needed and don't we import and export food in this "Industrial World"??? (Infinite Verse Finite) . I hope someone is worried about all the death that will occur. so many children caught up in a mess caused by use 'adults'.

The plant is warming up? We've already beat the record for snow in February here in Ohio and still have almost half the month to go through, and more snow this weekend. DC go what, 50 inches or so in the last couple of weeks? Dallas got a foot of snow just recently. All 50 states have had snow this year. Yes, ALL 50. Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, every last one. Last time I checked, it has to be pretty darn cold to snow.

The 2012 theory I'm most familiar with is the Mayan calendar ending. The thing is, nobody knows what it means. There are tons of theories, each crazier than the last. Some do make you wonder, I'll admit that. But come on. The Mayans couldn't accurately predict their own demise, how should I believe they could predict ours? They had to stop sometime. There is no never ending rock for them to write it all down. And if you go to google and type in just about any year you'll find things about the end of the world. Even in years that have long past.

If we had listened to every civilization that predicted the end of the world, it would have already ended at least 10 times. Also, as a christian, I believe that no man can predict the end of the world, only God knows when that will happen. Finally, the idea that man is contributing to global warming is completely false. There have been no studies to prove that and the global temperature is actually down from 10 years ago.

The planet WAS warming up, but it wasn't our fault and it wasn't irreversible. The most reliable climate change scientists out there admit that we're now on the downward side of a repeating bellcurve; it's all a result of natural processes. The planet will not end by warming up; if anything we'll starve ourselves trying not to fart too much.
