Comcast is holding my family hostage...well sorta. My wife and I have a Comcast security system set up on our house and we arm it every night before going to sleep. Well this morning she tried disarming it but she couldn't since the security system froze up. So now we're stuck in the house because if we try leaving, the alarm will probably go off (at least I think so, not sure if the system freezing would prevent that from going off) and cops will show up and I'd rather not have to deal with a situation like that so hopefully we can get someone from Comcast over here to fix it and maybe replace our security unit.

Fortunately I work from home and she's a stay at home Mom so this doesn't really affect us too much but we would eventually have to leave the house


Edit: I finally called Comcast about an hour ago and they talked me through fixing it. Basically I had to take apart the touchsceen control system and remove the battery and put it back in.

If the whole system has froze up, then it will have no functionality. I think you should be able to get out of your house. I have never actually heard of this Comcast thing. What is it?

LOL! That is hilarious! Is there a window or any way out that's not alarmed? You should go stand outside, or have one of your kids stand outside, right before the security guy comes to fix your system. Then you can be all like 'Man, why'd you take so long! My kid's been stuck outside for so long!' The guy'd probably get all 'Uh-oh...'

That would be awesome. Just sayin...

Davideo7 : Never heard of it. It is likely an American only thing. I'm English. Not really that many security systems at all over here. For internet and cable we have stuff like BT and Sky.

mrfe : Our house as 2 floors, a basement (which isn't fully under ground, it's like a walkout basement without a door) and an upstairs. The upstairs windows are not armed but they're high enough where if I jumped out the window I could potentially break a leg. All of the downstairs windows are armed.

That'd be pretty funny to do lol. Of course, my son can't walk yet and my daughter is 2 1/2 years old and very curious so if we stuck her outside, we probably wouldn't see her again for quite a while because she'd probably wonder the town.

The security system is actually battery powered. This is so that it can continue working even if the power goes out.

You are one lucky sod. You get touch screens, we get large plastic switches that get stuck really easily.

Seems that the solution of "Taking out Battery and turning on again" applies here as well.

The reason I didn't take it apart in the first place is that I wasn't sure if I was allowed to tamper with it. Sometimes you have products that you're not allowed to tamper with, either because you're renting it or because it would void the warranty. Plus I wasn't sure if an alarm would go off from tampering with it.

I might sound like I have problems for saying this, but I only get that feeling when I am in someone elses house. I never feel that something bad like that can happen when I am at home.
