Suppose you were stranded on a desert island and could only keep/read three books of the Bible. Which three books would you pick?
I would pick the Gospel of John, Ruth, and Romans.

Nice question! As for answering it...

I'd probably take Luke, Romans, and Revelation. XD Luke, the life of Jesus. Romans has some great truths, and Revelation is the story of His coming again. I think this would best suit me...

I like it! But if I were trapped on a desert island, the images in the book of Revelation would probably freak me out . I'm with you though; solid choices!

Man, that's tough...I think my three are similar to whitesox51, but I would pick Psalms instead of Ruth because it is a great book of songs and poems with topics of praising God and relying God during the time of adversity and trouble.

whitesox51 : I'm interested to know why you picked Ruth.

play4fun: you know my views, but you are right... extremely hard one.

1.
Revelations. I remember studying this book for 3 months, and I did a chapter a day, waiting for vacation. It was pretty interesting, and full of knowledge.
2. Genesis. So many of the stories you hear in Sunday School are in that book. Enough said.
3. This last choice is hard, since I have already picked Alpha and Omega. But, I guess, Psalms.

play4fun : Well, the book of Ruth is all about God working in the shadows, bringing good things out of bad. I'd probably need some of that if I were lost on an island . But seriously, I really like stories and Ruth is one of my favorite stories in the OT.

I would pick Genesis, John, and Psalms. Those are the most interesting to me. Any thoughts?

Here's what I would pick:

Psalms - These psalms are beautiful in the way they worship our God. I love David's heart for the Lord and I really enjoy reading the Psalms. I couldn't live without worshiping God. The connection to our Lord through worship is such a great experience and really prepares my heart for what He has to say.

Leviticus - The groan-inducing book of laws that, let me tell you, really is interesting to me in a lot of ways. It fascinated me, all of the different laws, and while I was reading it I was allowing my mind to paint pictures of scenarios that could have happened during that time. I like thinking about how I would handle living during that time and what my role would be. I know this seems crazy, but after I read Leviticus the other day, I was enamored by the book - something I never thought I would ever, ever say. Not only that, but I do have to say that I really am thankful I don't live in those times. I appreciate the sacrifice Jesus made for me so we don't have to follow that law. But it's still interesting to speculate.

Matthew - The first book of the New Testament, I love Matthew because it really laid the groundwork for me to understand the Gospel message. It told the story of Jesus and what He did for us in an easy-to-understand way. It was such an easy read for me when I really didn't understand anything about the Word.

This is a hard question. But I would probably go with Genesis, either Luke or John, most likely I would pick John though, and then maybe the Acts of the Apostles. I really like that one for some reason.

Job, Revelations and gospel according to Luke.

Some other day I would pick something else.

pray75 : If you are interested, there is a good commentary on Leviticus by a Jewish scholar named Jacob Milgrom. Also, the British anthropologist Mary Douglas has a good book called Leviticus as Literature that is worth checking out. Peace.
