I'll address this in as few words as I can.
America is not an Island.
Extending "Gun Control Laws" to the point of disarming the general public is a silly idea. It creates more problems than solutions.
Crazy People?
They have the right to defend themselves and live a normal life too. Until they break the law.
Should we issue out tests in schools every year to determine who is crazy or not?
Should we just lock up all crazy people?
That just creates more problems than it's worth. Besides, people can be crazy for just a day and one day only. Should there be a Morning exam for every citizen before they are released to the general Public? Exactly where does "public safety" end and "OPPRESSIVE Tyranny" begin?
You have "rights" ... so long as you pass this test?
Silly idea and too expensive as well.
Not that you recommended any of that but where does it end?
Gun Control? Why Stop there? Why not Ban Self Defence and Martial Arts?
(Remember when other forms of Government tried those? Just check out any manner of history. It just does not work well.)
Back to my original Point.
America is not as small as an Island.
The country can not afford to have a cop on every street corner to police its population to the point to where a gun free nation could be possible.
It works in England and Japan because there is less room for criminals to escape.
Pop up a picture on the news and the fugitive has no where to run. (They Gonna Swim to the Mainlands or Europe or Asia? Come on.)
Another point to bring to light is the amount of criminals and the kind of criminals we have in the U.S.A.
I noticed that after "Americas Most Wanted" and "Unsolved Mysteries" stopped airing on T.V.? That allot of people of other nations lost a great deal of respect for the problems Americans face due to complete ignorance of the Criminal Activity that takes place on my native soil.
Just because the media chooses to display crazy loons more than common thugs?
America is not as safe as it could be. It's people need it's current freedoms and Laws that protect them more than ever.
Question.
Was there a time when Strict Regulation of Firearms could have happened and done some good?
Yes, I think there might have been a period in the 1950's and a period between the late 1980's and early 1990's that stricter gun laws could have done some good.
Today?
No.
Stricter Gun Laws only hurt the law abiding citizens. Not the Criminals.
Stricter Punishments for laws broken would be the only way to help Americans today.
Thank you for the chance to grace this fun brain teaser. It is a good way to cover a cup of coffee or tea.
Good Luck.
Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.
