Thanks for the Source.
Now Hear This.
The Article is dated to 2008.
What he is talking about are Clones developed to "Piggyback" on another's success.
If you remember there where a ton of Sports, Racing Games, and First Person Shooters on shelves. (A few random R.P.G.'s and 3rd person midevil Romps.) Not exactly "Knock off's" but close enough to where new gamers could not tell the difference.

Now-a-days we don't have too much of a problem with clones.

It's the 4-6 hour games or the incomplete games that are released that are overcrowding the shelves. (Operation Homefront. Or Soul Calibur 5.)

Before the arguement was about Competition. (Circa 2008) There was a lot of competitors Developing games witch is a good thing. Now that the competition is practically gone?

Now it's about Squeezing every last Dime out of your customers.
Some call it Monopoly.
I call it Milking.
I recommend getting a current news to report.
See the thing I learned about any business is regardless of any practice or product or service...
"There is only so much money to be had."
This is something that no business man wants to hear due to the investors idea of doubling profits by one years time.
That in itself is an insane way of doing business because there are only going to be so many people interested in your business or product or..whatever.
Particularly with video games.
A video game is not an event like say the Super Bowl. People will not fly a few hundred miles, endure the weather, just to watch a game and sip tap beer without the fact that everyone in the country will be watching. With video Games You can get fans but not everyone will be playing at exactly the same time.
The Idea is to play an item when you feel like it.
An Event that can be put on hold.

Attempting to alter that defeats the appeal of the video game.
So, like I said, there is only so much money to be had.
I hope you understand.

Back to the other suggestions.
Nintendo and Capcom???
I do not know.
I would have bought any Metroid if there were not hundreds of other games that were ten times more fun and appealing.
The Smash Brothers Idea is still cool though.
Plus the Zelda Games are still making a few bucks. So, it might not be too bad an idea.
Still if there was a way to marry capcom with nintendo it might be fairly sweet.
Nintendo has made games that go on for 30 to 60 hours. Bare minimum. (The ones I played.)
Take that and hook it up with capcoms style and flavour and sound (never forget the cool music.)???
It sounds like a game of the decade to me. good choice.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

orionfoxgibson : Thank you for pointing out the date of the article(s), I hadn't caught that before >.< Strangely, I can't find any more recent statistics. Makes one wonder...
I do agree that major game companies do milk their franchises, just looking at Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty. I just don't feel that Capcom is as bad most of the time as other companies that I hardly see people criticizing.
alsonic : I don't think Capcom needs to be bought out by Nintendo to have a crossover fighting game, but I would like to see that It would be interesting to see how Nintendo would depict Megaman/X considering they already have Samus...
And just to steer closer to the topic...
I think CyberConnect2 might be fine buying out Capcom due to their style (especially in the way I remember the .hack//GU games), but only if they don't pull another Asura's Wrath...

dagedude :
Capcom is not as bad.
The thing is Street fighter is so well bought and owned that they can not make new money on the young tikes the way another metal gear can due to "overcirculation".
Everyone has a Street fighter game.
New or old.
Does not matter.
You get the same experience.
With Metal gear?
The story continues. The game evolves. The rules change and a new product is the result. .. New experience.
Capcom has tried to make lightning strike multiple times in the same location. With no regard to smart practices. Keeping the fans happy and ensnaring a few new kids is practically a science now due to comic book practices developed from the 1960's and onward. A Company that makes billions of dollars every year has no excuse. (Just an opinion.)
Granted less people read paper print items these days but still.
They want the money that took a solid days worth of work from us? They need to provide at least a weeks worth of entertainment for us.
I do not see what the problem is.
If said amount of money (like the millions you described earlier) is being spent then should the item being developed not be worth a weeks worth of conversation?
Again I digress.
Thanks for the feedback. I enjoyed it allot. I hope everyone learned something today.
Good Luck To All.
Peace.
