This is an idea that JigSaw brought up and I think it's an interesting idea but I wanted to get everyone's opinion first before I do it.

If I put this into affect, basically you wont see closed threads when you go into a forum. All forums would show opened threads first and than all the closed threads would be buried off into the distant pages.

What do you guys think, is this something I should do or not?

Hmmm... I think it's a good idea.  It'd encourage more posting, hide the 'ugly' threads, and make forum navigation easier.  I doubt very many people asked for closed threads to be opened anyways.  The few reasons I could think of for not promoting the idea are so small that they aren't worth discussion.

So I think overall it's a great idea, and will help the site look a lot cleaner and more active.  

You should do this, with Mrfe's idea, too. This is kinda a good idea with my opinion. I don't really know what else to say.

It wouldn't necessarily hide them but just push them back while promoting open threads to the top where they belong. Go to any of the forums and you will see open threads buried and mixed in with closed threads many pages back. It's messy and disorganized, nothing worse when a thread that goes unanswered and gets buried many pages back. It might also make mods jobs easier.

A bit of a revision to what I said. Perhaps a seperate page for closed threads? Maybe a "view closed threads" option or something. That way their easy to find without going back quite a few pages. Just an idea.

I think this is a good idea, as I have hit a thread before and read all of the posts, only to find that it was closed. That's no fun. That, and when people make two or more identical threads, it's anyone's guess which one is open until the open thread gets it's first reply.

Also, how about allowing the Thread maker the option of not only asking mods to close a thread, but also to ask them to delete it?

Either way, I like this idea, and think it would really benefit the forums.

mrfe : Yea that would be a neat option to jump straight to closed threads, by default though it should be open threads first, not scrambled eggs like it is now. Maybe we could have an option for scrambled as well (the current way it is).

I wouldn't want them completely hidden. I feel as though having them bumped down to being below new, active threads would be good though. Closed threads are usually either funny to read, or they have some sort of lesson to be learned. Like, a closed thread is often a dupe. People see that and the link inside of the active post, so they know 1) Not to make a thread like that and 2) Where to find the one that's relevant to their interest.

Also it's good to see examples of spamming so members also know what will and will not get your thread closed/get you in trouble for responding poorly to a thread.

Having an option to see only closed threads seems like kind of a waste. If you're looking around and you see a closed thread, and you snoop to see what went down, that's one thing. But who would want to read a pages of closed threads? That seems like a waste of space and time on David's part to me. I think just pushing them down in the forum under active and recently posted in threads would make more sense. Open threads should always be first priority.

mrfe : As for sorting threads by popularity, usually if you're active, it's not that hard to tell what's active and what's not. While it is an interesting idea, I could go to General and see that there are 8 topics that have been replied to since I was on last, 3 of which are "popular" i.e. have more than a page or 2. I think that'd kind of be unnecessary. I just don't see it as as much of an issue, since it would have little to do with organizing the board and more to catering to the members' laziness, haha. <3

KG : I could see it being useful to mods, if you could sort it to the least popularity as well. Just an idea.

mrfe : I don't understand how it'd be helpful for the mods, haha. They can look at a page and see what has the most pages too. Active threads are always posted first according to most recent posts, so I have faith in my mods that they can look at a list of active threads and see which ones have the most pages/replies. ;P

I actually don't like this idea. I think closed threads are still threads, and should be placed in chronological order like the rest. I think it would be even more confusing to always have to look at the dates of the closed threads to see if they were closed before or after other specific threads. Not that it's often necessary to do this, but I find it's more organized that way.

I like looking at closed threads just as much as open ones, and I think they should be in a logical chronological order with the open threads.

But I certainly see what the pros are too, and it makes sense to have them pushed back as well, I simply think it's still better to have them the way they are.

Well darn, I had this idea but I figured someone had come up with it already. Whatever then, yes I think is a good idea. Some of the threads involve people just trying to get banned and threads the creators don't want people to see. And I don't think people should see these.

Honestly, some of these threads are funny or useful and deserve to be there, so others can see it... 

I do not know about all the way in the back... maybe a sub forum for all of the closed threads to go into, that way if people want to reference something, they can find it a heck of a lot easier and quicker.

Davideo7 :   No I don't think that we should shun the closed threads. I think it'd be a better idea to have the thread said if it was closed or not because that would cause less confusion and hopefully keep people from posting in closed threads.
