So, what do you think of items in smash bros games?

I think that they suck because it the whole point of learning a certian charater and mastering him/her.  and also not that throwing items at an apponent kill them if they are at 120% or higher.

And also final smashes it just suck that 1 hit KOes are possible now. . . even if you 80% ahead of you opponent, your done for if you get hit.

I don't play with them. I am a local tournament smasher, and I haven't played with those in years. They really disrupt game play, and you may end up in a game where the person is just waiting for items to appear.

I agree with you on Final Smashes. They are way too overpowered. But most of the items are ok. But too many assistant people are really strong, which just feels cheap. But the simple ones like the beam sword are fine. I hate all the 1 hit KO things though. If they made some that took some skill to use, that would be better.

bombchu link : While that would be fun. I am kind of against brawl. I really only play melee and Project M. Reason being you cant dash dance, L-Cancel, wavedash, or do any of the technical things you could do in melee. Also the characters are really floaty which calls for really slow paced gameplay. Oh yeah, I just realized this doesn't really have to do with the subject at hand. Sorry.

P.S: I haven't gone to Apex or anything. Just local stuff, so I wouldn't sell me too highly.

patar4097 : have you ever been to the course "Mario Bros." before. Throwing the koopas is the only way to win there and it is the same principle as throwing a pokeball at a opponent

bombchu link : That's not exactly true. The Koopa shell is  overpowered. The Pokeball doesn't do as much damage when you throw it at someone. And, yes. I've done that one,  and that isn't the only way to kill someone, but it's too easy to do it like that.

I prefer items, honestly. If I wanted to play a fighting game the way you tourney people do, I'd go play Street Fighter or something. (And I don't because I hate those types of games personally.)

I'm not pro. I play for fun. And items make the game a little more fun for me because it adds that luck factor the game needs. I don't just sit and wait for them, though, even though it might be what it looks like. *generally plays as Sonic and tries to make single strikes while keeping away from the foe*

ender44 : I think that items mess it up, I tried to remove the spammiest of items but they all are somewhat unfair.

The smash ball is really unfair, with a land master you can get two KOs easily by hovering up with "passengers" on top.
You can do this even after they respawn.

That's awesome that your a tournament smasher!

Sword legion : I'm starting to regret posting that because I'm starting to think everyone thinks I'm armada now (he is a world tournament smasher that has won a 10,000 dollar world tournament two years in a row) I really just do local stuff, I am amateur at the least.

ender44 : Wow what a let down howyoucouldyoudothisthatsucks. . .

Don't worry about it.
You might want to edit your post though if your worried that it is misleading.

I'll bet that your better than me though, I would mind doing a few rounds of Brawl on Project M with you though.
Shoot this is off topic, uhhh. . .

Ahem. . .

Why is it that some final smashes are so powerful but others are so weak?

I think that the creators of the game tried to give what they thought were weaker players good smashes.  However, the parity in the power of smashes is far too low, take Peach.  I can see how the developers could have thought master players could destroy with her, but her smash is terrible compared to Fox, Falcon, and Wolf.  Peach's smash is like:  Um, I get to eat YEA.'

It just depends for me. I will play with items when I play online because its very laggy so skill kinda goes right out the window, not to mention my friends prefer items. If I play local, I prefer having items off unless I decide to do some themed match (like 'splosions).

I have to agree with sonikku. I like items, because they set it apart from other fighters. I love Smash Bros, but not most fighters. Anything that seperates it from the others is welcome with me.

I don't mind items tbh unless i'm playing with friends who heavily rely on items. I also hate those ridiculously cheap KO items like Dragoon or whatever. Final Smashes I usually turn off since they're so unbalanced -__-

I love the items in the Super smash bros series! I know it can be cheap losing to a friend because of a badly timed bomb-omb, but other wise they're awesome! I love final smashes and I don't mind OHKO's! It is pretty hard to master a final smash and it is similar to remembering all the special move combos in other fighting games. From final smashes so far, to me they made them pretty easy to survive and they-re really balanced. All you need to avoid them is a jump, sidestep, roll, shield, air dodge, or just keep attacking to get rid the trouble. Even with high level CPU's, they rarely KO me with final smashes. Overall, to me, items are pretty balanced and you can at least turn explosives and "cheap" items off in the item menu. It's simple.

I like them.
There was a similar invention with the Arcade Mame "Marvel Superheroes".

In it you scored Gems that granted you different powers to gain advantage (Infinity Guntlet Gems if you want to look up the lore behind them in comic book sites.)

It was a great Idea and it vanished as soon as it was invented.

I am happy that Smash Brothers Brought the idea back.

Thank you.
Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

I sincerely think items are what makes SSB so freaking fun. It adds a big randomness factor to the game, and that's what makes Brawl, IMO, the best game in the series.

I sincerely think SSB is all about the frantic fun and completely unexpected battle results you can get in a match, not any of this tournament/move property stuff.

The only items I do like are the final smash sphere, the beam sabre, pokeball, and smart bomb. The others I don't care for much as they just seem useless

I like to categorize players in two different sections.  We have the hardcore and the casual.  The hardcore crowd are the players that try to learn the game inside and out without items to keep it balanced and are VERY competitive.  Casual players have fun with items on because it creates interesting situations and keeps a certain "luck" factor in the game.  Anyone can win, basically.  There is nothing wrong with either way of playing but depending on what kind of player you are... you will most likely have more fun with others of the same type.

I never got into the hardcore scene with Smash but I know quite a few people that are.  For me, either way of play is fine.
