So, each year since (as far back as the blog goes) 2010, SEGA has done a post on February 2 to commemorate the day Sonic 3 was released, dubbing it "Hedgehog Day" (As a joke based on Groundhog Day, and for the fact they used to use Hedgehogs instead of Groundhogs). Each year, they have either hinted towards something, gave actual news towards a new game, or have released concept art for a new game (Mostly for the Sonic 4 series). This year, they're either playing a trick on us, or there may be something beyond what we can see here...

Back in 2011, they did a little trick that hinted towards Sonic Generations, in which they bolded certain letters in the article to spell out something, usually in a wrong order. The word gave a clue towards the new game, and as such, it was revealed soon later. This year, the word that was made out from the bolded characters was "Red Herring". For those who know what this means, you could be a little disappointed, assuming it was a joke, but thinking of the definition (here provided by Wikipedia), it clearly states: "Red herring is an English-language idiom that commonly refers to a type of logical fallacy in which a clue is intentionally or unintentionally misleading or distracting from the actual issue".

So, with that figured out, they must be doing something else over there to give as a hint instead, right? Well, I believe I have figured out one tactic in which they did so.

If you look closely at the "Hedgehog Day" articles, the first is titled simply "Hedgehog Day". The next one, 2011, is titled "Hedgehog Day 2", which happens to be the one that hints at Sonic Generations. Seems quite normal so far, but in 2012, they just plainly labeled the article "Hedgehog Day 2012". What makes this important? Well, this year, it went back to the old style, making this one "Hedgehog Day 3". So, what's the use of pointing this out? Well, if you keep up with news in the Sonic community (Which I'm sure you don't!~), you may have read the article on Sonic Stadium telling how an official source has given us details about the next Sonic game, and one of those important little things was, to quote, " they have been in the works since before Sonic Generations". Now, keeping this in mind, one could imagine that making 2012's Hedgehog Day link titled "Hedgehog Day 2012" instead of 3, and then making THIS one "Hedgehog Day 3" could be a very sneaky way of hinting at Sonic Adventure 3.

Now, I had many other clues to this theory that there could possibly be a real Sonic Adventure 3 being hinted at, and revealed, this year, but sadly, I had posted them instead on SEGA's Blog quite a few days ago, and they have yet to allow that post to go through. Quite a coincidence, don't you think? Especially considering the fact that those who figured out the hints at Sonic Generations had their posts Admin Edited, giving them a "Congrats" and letting others figure it out themselves. Maybe mine not going through, and possibly others, is a better way of doing this, since they've kept their new game unannounced and leak-free for so long now, and they'd want it best kept quiet?

Guess I'll find out later on in the month, Nya~.

(Also, if anyone else has anything they think they picked up as a clue from the Hedgehog Day post, feel free to reply here~)

I have seen a lot of things that hint toward a sonic adventure 3, I would be REALLY happy if they were to make another.

considering on how the sonic adventure series usually introduced a new sonic character. like for example, sonic adventure 2 introduced shadow the hedgehog to the series. so if there was going to be a sonic adventure 3 sega would have introduced silver the hedgehog. this could have indicated that there wasn't going to be a sonic adventure 3. but this however is only a theory. it may or may not be true. still, it might come out in the future, let's keep hoping sonic adventure 3 will come out soon.

Sonic Adventure 3 = Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

But seriously, is there any conclusive evidence given that proves they're talking about a "different" SA3? Well, whatever it is, I hope it still keeps the quality of the recent sonic games.

I don't know. I would fear for it. I think that Sonic Adventure 2 was the last really good Sonic game. I haven't played Sonic Generations, so I don't speak for that one. But the first 2 Sonic Adventure games were great not just for the game play but for the well developed story. Every Sonic game I played after that kept the game play, but seemed like they took a nap on the story development. Almost all of them had potential, but the cutscenes were very choppy, jumpy, had no real transitions, so each level and cutscene just felt very random and didn't fit together well at all. If there were a Sonic Adventure 3, I'm sure the game play would be great as usual. But they would really have to step up in the story development and get it back to the quality they had in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

But it really just seems to me that Sonic Adventure 3 is to the Sonic fans as Shenmue 3 is to Shenmue fans. They just keep giving 'hints' that just end up being dead ends.

It could be, but is it a good idea? I wonder if we trust SEGA to do a good job of making a third Sonic Adventure.

I think only if they think way back and stick to the formula that was used in the original Sonic Adventure titles.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

It seems plausible... but it's probably something else... As much as i'd like to see Sonic Adventure 3 .. I feel as the fan base would be expecting something so awesome and amazing that even a perfect game could not live up to the hype of it.

rcarter2 : what about sonic '06...  I mean at least the loading screens are decent

Technically, Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 WAS SA3, but no, just no. Just a bad game. Here's my review of it if you don't see what I mean

https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=55084

Anyway, a SA3 would be FREAKING SWEET, just Sega messed alot of things up. (Look above) and they might mess up with this too. Just saying.
