For those who've read this thread by Singelli, you'll know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, the thread should explain most of your questions. We're starting this tomorrow (Feb. 4th) morning! If you miss this, we still want you to join us! Come as your schedule allows!
We'll be using the Google+ hangout feature. You can find it here. Note: This won't work with Internet Explorer.

If you are a Christian, and want to be involved in an interactive Bible study, this is for you! We'll be doing it twice per day. In the morning at 6:30-7:30, and in the evening. We don't have a time picked for the evenings, so please let us know what time works for you! All times are server time, which I think is Central time. We'd love to have you! Note: This is not a debate. This is a group of Christians coming together and reading/discussing God's Word.
Singelli : and I will be heading this up, and we're happy to answer questions! XD

God bless! I'd love to do this with you!

Summoning everyone who was interested previously...

It would be nice to set an afternoon time as well, if you guys could respond to the other thread with your available hours according to server time.

I realize this may have been a bit confusing. I'll clarify. Any Christian who's interested in an interactive Bible reading mornings is welcome. Just let either singelli or I know your google plus username, and I'll invite you to the hangout in the morning. Note: You don't have to participate every morning, we aren't interested in forcing you to join us. Just join whenever you can, morning or night. Thanks, and look forward to seeing you!

I wonder...

jzrozzn8706 : If you'd like, you can always join us tomorrow morning!

I wanted to jot down what passage we read today, in case anyone wants to go through it.  We read through Ecclesiastes 3, 4, 5, and 6.    The passages have a lot to offer, so we had a lot of great conversation.  We didn't get to finish discussing chapter 6.

Chapter 4 especially spoke to me.  Suspected to be written by Solomon on his deathbed, the chapter speaks of the evil which is in the world, and the vanity which is displayed by the actions of the world.  I feel like this often and tell my mother I would enjoy being a hermit who interacts with nobody.  However, later in this chapter, it also speaks about the fact that two are stronger than one, and three even more so.  It's important for us to stick together as believers and even just as human beings.

We did also have prayer for several individuals here on vizzed, but I forgot to choose some verse to try and apply to my life today.  For me, I think I will keep in mind Ecclesiastes 5:2.

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

During my work day, it's sometimes hard for me to watch what I say to my students.  I do a fine job of it, but I can do better.    I will watch every word, whether it be good or bad, so that I may be a representative of Christ.

There were MANY good things discussed today, but I have to start teaching some children in a few minutes.  If mrfe doesn't get to a summarization, I'll post it later when I'm off of work.

I guess I'd be interested, maybe if there were some others that were going to come also. This does sound like a pretty good idea.

patar4097: Can you make it to the morning meetings at 6:30 am and running through 7:30 am (Central Time Zone)?  We'd love to have you stop by!

If not, i think I'll go ahead and set an afternoon time, since only a few people gave me feedback.  I'm thinking 6:30pm to 7:30pm (Central Time Zone).

I did forget to summarize what we've read and discussed.
Monday we read Ecclesiastes 3-6.
Tuesday we read Romans 1-3.
Wednesday we read John 14-16.
Thursday we were unable to meet.
And Friday we read Romans 4-7.

We also had prayer before every reading, so if anyone has any prayer requests, please keep sending them my way. We've also had a lot of great conversation thus far, and I look forward to future readings.

Ecclesiastes 3-6.
A few days before we started the bible readings, I was opening my bible randomly to see what God would show me.  I happened to land on Ecclesiastes 3, and it really spoke to me as being appropriate for a first passage to study in our bible readings.  Here we were talking about not making time to spend with God, and Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a time for everything!  If there is a time for things like planting, building, embracing, and sewing.... how much more so should we have time for God?!

Ecclesiastes starts off with a pretty light and well known idea.  Even non-Christians like to quote the verses or frame them for a wall.  However, the chapter becomes more serious rather quickly.  In verse 14, the talk of time tilts to that of God's relationship to it.  We has humans have a time for everything.  Our earthly lives are limited and short.  However, God is not bound by that dimension.  He transcends those petty prisons of time, and what He does is forever. Nobody can take away from or add to what He has done.  Even our own judgement by Him has its time, in which all we have done or thought about doing will be brought to light.

Solomon (who is believed to have written this book) makes no joke about what the sinner will see, however:  the sinner will see that they are 'beasts'.  In verse 19, the phrase "sons of men" is used; it's a verse that often refers to those who never accepted the Lord as their personal savior.  And in the same verse, these sons of men will see that what happens to them, also happens to the beast.  Their physical bodies will die and their life will have been spent in vanity.

(mrfe :  That verse you wanted (just reminding you) is verse 20. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.)

However, for those of us who have loved and accepted Christ, our spirits will move upwards into heaven, above the earth and the beasts, and the physical bodies in the ground.  How is it then, that we can not take joy in the good works we do?  Knowing that our relationship with Christ will draw our spirits upwards to be in His Glory, how can we possibly resist singing in our souls?

This idea runs into the next chapter, and the verses there really spoke to me personally.  Here, Solomon discusses an eagle-eyed perspective of humanity.  I imagined him sitting up on a mountain and glancing down at the people of his kingdom and of the world, and what he sees grieves him.  The theme of 'vanity' shows up quite often in all four of the chapters we read and Solomon observes men's wickedness.  The conditions of the world affect him so much that he even envies the dead and the unborn.... What a statement to make!  Can you imagine feeling that way due to the unrighteousness that surrounds you, and knowing that many of your friends and even family will not be saved from the place they have put themselves in?  I know I feel that way quite often, and my husband has even spoken fear of bringing children into this world because of the evils which freely abound in it.

However, Solomon does end his grieving with a bit of hope.  There is always hope in like mindedness and numbers.  Where there are sinners, there are also those who seek after God, and Solomon talks about the fact that two are stronger than one, and three even more so. Verse 12: And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. This is why it is so crucial that we as Christians find ourselves fellow believers to befriend.  Not only will brothers and sisters in Christ help us to stand against adversity, but they will help us grow and love and persevere.  If we fall, a brother or sister in Christ can lift us back up.  This kind of ties into the idea of accountability partners, and everyone should have one.

This chapter definitely spoke out to me and I now consider it one of my favorite chapters.  I know it's not a very chipper one, but it was in sync with my feelings much of the time, but those negative feelings are concluded with a promise of strength and hope in finding friends.  Coming to vizzed has allowed me to find more than a few, and I have seen how much it has strengthened me.

But moving onwards, right?

Chapter 5 was also stalked with lots of wonderful advice.  It mainly discusses how those of faith should behave around those without faith, and the appropriate way to handle our blessings.  Since being around others usually elicits interaction through conversation, the first half of the chapter is rather important.  It tells us that we should always consider what words we are using... basically, that we should think before we speak.  Not only is God witness to all we think and say, but the world around us pays careful attention to the words that slip from our mouths.  As witnesses for Christ, we need to make sure our interactions are clean, and that they glorify Him who we love.

Part of this is something I need to work on personally. Verse 5:
Better is it that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.  I've told students and even vizzed users that I would do such-and-such by such-and-such a time even though I know life will probably get in the way.  Although my intent is not to lie, I do have the mindset to realize something usually gets in the way... and yet I make those promises anyways.  This always makes me look like someone who doesn't value my word enough to keep it, and it's something the Holy Spirit has been convicting me of lately.  That being said, it's also foolish to sin with your mouth, and then just apologize and say it was a mistake.  While it is true that we all make mistakes, we also tend to use the excuse far too often.  A mistake happens every now and then, and not habitually.

I was also particularly fond of verse 8.
If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgement and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regards;and there be higher than they.  I love the security God offers to His people.  When we see the evil of the world and it grieves us (as in chapter 4), we do need to remind ourselves that God is in control.  God is already the victor, and those who choose the path of evil had sealed their fates.  Though we may not see those fates to fruition, we can take comfort in the fact that their deeds will not go unheeded.

Another verse that spoke out to me personally was verse 18.  In this verse, Solomon talks about the fact that it is good for someone to enjoy the fruits of their labor.  I've always been a very frugal person when it comes to spending money on myself, because I'd rather stash it all away in a bank account.  While there is nothing wrong with saving, the problem was that I never would spend even a penny on my own enjoyment or to my own pleasure.  I'm not taking it with me when I die however, and so it really is a silly habit.  (Luckily, my husband is not so reserved with money as I am, so we do have things we enjoy and love, bought with our own money.)  The end of the verse really sums it up in my opinion: the money and things that we earn are things that God has given us.  Why should I turn my nose up at that gift and store it all away?  The bible often discusses wise spending, and there is no doubt we should save money.  However, we should also be willing to spend some on ourselves, for things we like and enjoy.  We should rejoice in God's gift.

Chapter 6 didn't really speak out to me, even as I re-read it now.  It speaks about the vanity of man some more, and of how even the richest men might not find eternal happiness in Christ.  Maybe someone else will have some insight into the passage that I did not have.

In any case, I've babbled enough about Monday's reading and reflection.  If any of you did not join in the reading, but wish to read the chapters and join the discussion, please feel free to do so. I'd absolutely love to hear your opinions, or know which particular verses spoke to you.  Everyone sees things in different light, and your perspective might show us something we had never seen ourselves. (THIS IS NOT AN INVITATION FOR DEBATERS.)

Whether anyone chooses to or not,
mrfe :  Would you do the honors of reflecting on our Tuesday readings and then I can do Wednesday's?  I don't want to create a post so long that no one will read it, so I thought it'd be better to break this up between you and me.  LOL

LOL

I'm about to head to bed, but I wanted to record what we've studied for the past 2 days.  Yesterday mrfe and I read through Romans 8-11.

Today I had the joy of studying John 1 and 2.  We had such a great time and such wonderful discussion that the 2.5 hours we spent with God were hours well spent.  I feel so refreshed and alive, and I'd like to thank those who participated.

play4fun :
AuraBlaze :
james44028 :

Thank you SO much.  I can't tell you what our conversation did for me, and how refreshed my spirit feels.  Thank you, and God bless.  If you'd like to post any summaries or reflections, please do.  I'd love to see if anything continued to speak to you, or if you have any new thoughts on what we read or discussed.  I also hope to see each of you again in the near morning.

tRIUNE :  I know you were struggling with connections and such.  Maybe we will be blessed with your participation tomorrow afternoon.  (Part of the problem might have been that you have to set up the G+ part of your account, but I'm not sure.)

Once mrfe summarizes a bit of what we've read, or someone else summarizes our discussion tonight, I'll post some of my thoughts on the other readings this week.

Once again, thank you... all of you.  God is working in me, and I hope you can sense the way He is working in you.  God bless and good night!

So, I really should have posted this a few days ago. I just got really busy... I apologize. Now, to sum up Romans 1-3. I should probably point out that we've been using the KJV of the Bible during our studies.

Romans 1-3

Romans 1

Key verses: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)" "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; (Romans 1:28)" "Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:29-32)"

Brief thoughts: There was great discussion abounding while reading Romans 1-3, and a more than a couple good points were made. I'm kinda short on time, so I'll refer to the verses by number without posting them. Link to KJV Bible. In verse 16, I couldn't help but think that I need to be more like that. I need to be unashamed of the gospel of Christ, and I'm considering writing it on my wall so I remember it. I want to be unashamed, I believe we all (Christians) should be. In verse 20, this takes away any excuse like "I never got told about God" or "I never even thought about it". I mean, look outside! Does that look random to you? It certainly doesn't to me... Verse 28 hit me hard, because following God won't always be convenient. It will get rough. Anyone who tells you that the life of a Christian is all lolypops and candy canes is either selling something, lying, or ignorant. Don't listen to that. Also, verse 29-32 pretty much sums the world up I think. The world is full of people who hate God, and some even hate us for loving Him. Anyway, I'm rambling. So, Romans 2...

Romans 2

Key verses: There are too many of them to post them here, so I'll just post the verse numbers. Look at verses 1, 3-5, 7-10, 21-22, 24, 25-29.

Brief thoughts: A theme through the chapter is "thou art inexcusable". There is too much complexity, too much awe inspiring creatures in the world to not search for a all-powerful Creator. Another major point was that we blasphem the name of God. Every Christian should strive to honor God to the best of his/her ability, rather than use it as a cuss word or something we say when we're annoyed. God will punish us for our deeds, but for the Christian He will ultimatly forgive them. XD Chapter 3...

Romans 3

Key verses: Again, I'll refer to them using verse numbers, rather than type them all out. You can use a previously given link to look them up. Some verses I thought were meaningful were verses: 10, 11, 12-18, 19, 23-25, 27-28, 31.

Brief thoughts: I really shouldn't title this "Brief thoughts", none of these have been brief. lol. A theme through the chaper that I saw was the 'we are not righteous in and of ourselves' (that wasn't a quote, just an idea I wanted seperated) ideology. Verses 12-18 speak of the world, how they hate God, and how sinful we are. Another point: No one seeks after God, He picks us. He looked at me and said, you're mine. Nothing will take me away from Him, and nothing will take Him from me. (Romans 8) We live in a sinful, fallen world. We need to trust Christ, 'catch fire' for Him, and study His word. We study the Word every morning and evening to do just that. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it!

Singelli : I believe it's your turn...

If you're interested in joining us, we'd love to have ya! 6:30-7:30 am and pm, every day of the week. If you're interested, either Singelli or I need your google plus id.

I'm posting this from my DSi XL.

I won't be able to join tonight. My computer bared its fanny & told me to kiss it as some small flames shot out of the power supply. The computer was the only casualty though, so everything is okay. I'll post again when I'm able to join. In the meantime, I'm more than happy to learn about what gets discussed & post my input about it.

To those who haven't been able to join, it's quite alright and perfectly understandable.  Life will do as life will do.

There is an update to the schedule, for those who will continue to participate or jump in every now and then.

-----Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:  A bible study will be held between 6:30am and 7:30am.  A prayer meeting will be held between 6:30pm and 7:30pm.
-----Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays: A prayer meeting will be held between 6:30am and 7:30am, while the bible study will be held in the afternoon hours.
-----Sundays:  There will be no sessions.

To see the reasoning behind this and provide input, see the thread linked in the original post of this thread.

Finally, I have been slacking in updating this thread mainly because I did not want to double post or sandwich post.  However, now that there are several buffers, I feel I can post without concern.

Although we usually finish between 2 and 4 chapters per session, we've actually read quite a bit of scripture!  We have read all of Romans and Galatians, 1 Corinthians 1-9, John 1-6, John 14-16,  Ecclesiastes 3-6, and Genesis 1 and 2.  It's been a wonderful exploration, and we've had tons of provocative conversation.  I do believe I will lose everyone here if I strive to summarize all of our conversations and studies, so I will simply discuss what we read today.... and in the future I hope to be more diligent.  I was hoping more conversation would take place here, instead of solely in the studies, but I'm thrilled just to be able to commune with all of you! Thank you so much!

This morning we read 1 Corinthians 8 and 9.  1 Corinthians 8 can be summed up in the last two verses of Paul's letter to Corinth; verses 12 and 13 read "But when you sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.  Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world stands, lest I make my brother to offend."  We talked about the fact that there are certain things that may be sinful to ourselves, but not to other followers of Christ.  For example, I might be addicted to blue socks, and thus blue socks would be a sin for me, since addiction is a sin.  However, not every Christian would feel the same conviction over such clothing.

What does this mean for us as Christians?  Well, in essence, we must always be aware of where we are at and who we are hanging around with.  If my brother or sister in Christ feels convicted over one thing, we should not engage in or with that one thing while around the brother or sister.  To do so would be disrespectful not only to the person, but to God.  We never, ever want to tempt our brothers or sisters in Christ to sin against God.  It's sort of like encouraging your sibling to break a rule established by your parents.

We also did some discussion on how nonbelievers wouldn't be held to the same standard, but this fact does not mean we should allow sins to enter our home.  This means we must always be very careful witnesses for Christ in our manner of thoughts, speech, and actions.

In Chapter 9, a few verses that caught our attention were 24-26, which includes the verse "And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible."  In this part of Paul's letter, it is affirmed that as God's children, we have the right to inherit worldly things for the sake of spiritual work.  However, we choose not to receive payment for our work because payment of any sort should not be our goal and motivation.  God has provided us with the food necessary to feed our spirits (verse 14), and we should partake in the feeding.  How cruel would we be to let other spirits starve when we have been given the sustenance we need?  We should not walk, but run; and we should not only run, but we should run with a purpose.  Our goal should be to establish relationships with Christ and preach the gospel.  God does not want any to perish, and we are His labourers.
To those who haven't been able to join, it's quite alright and perfectly understandable.  Life will do as life will do.
