This is pretty much one of the stupidest things I've ever heard a member of the government say, and to think that it's real is horrifying on how uninformed somebody could be, and want to make laws about something they don't know about. What do you think about this?

Video games may affect people but so does other technology as a tv video games isn't the only influential thing out there.

I got control of my anger issues about 10 years ago. And this really infuriated me. This is a really stupid thing for someone, especially someone who is a part of our government to say. If a person decides to shoot someone, I'm willing to bet its not because they are trying to act like "Mr gang I have guns man" who is my version of a grand theft auto character.

It's funny because the NRA just put out a videogame (I think it's also an iPhone app?) for teaching people how to shoot.

Clearly games are the things pulling the trigger. And the things firing the bullets. Hey since blaming video games is legit...

I blame republicans for gun related deaths. As well as alcohol, bullying in schools, and anyone who has ever thought about firing a gun.

It is human nature to be violent. Adding guns to the equation make it too easy for those who have overly violent tendencies.

It's stupid to blame anything but the cruel society we live in. We don't help those that need help regarding mental health, we over glorify attacks by keeping it as the center of attention for days, and it's too easy to get weaponry such as guns to do the attacks.

It's sad to think that these people who don't open their eyes to see the world we live in are running this nation, Nya~.

Jeez. When will they learn that video games are not a cause, only an outlet. Someone who is capable of shooting someone in cold blood has that capability and will do it no matter what video games he/she plays. The only correlation you can legitimately make is that a video game player who can shoot other people have a tendency to play those games. Well, duh!! They play it because it appeals to them in that way. It didn't make them do it or put that capability in them. They had it before they started playing. 
This is just another case of a Republican trying to point blame at something else because he doesn't want to give up his gun. (not saying he has a gun, but that isn't the point)

Super Mario made me want to dive down a sevage pipe because I thought there would be some loose change there. I also ate an amanita after I banged my head to a brick wall, so I would finally "grow up to be a big boy". None of these things ended up well, so who do I blame?

To be honest,I always wanted to kidnap girls and throw barrels at anyone who tried to aproach me. But they jumped over them... No wonder I am still single.

Am I missing something here? I'm really not sure why he said that. Anyway video games don't hurt anybody at all. The only way it could hurt is if you play it non stop for a long time or if it hurts your eyes.

earthwarrior : It was in result of the elementary school shooting back in December. The guy had liked Mass Effect 3 on FaceBook, so they threw the blame at the game and other things he liked, such as Guns n' Roses, sadly, Nya~.

I believe I've said this at every chance I get, but throwing the blame at video games won't help at all. Putting better restrictions on buying guns woul be step one, if anything. However, even then they will be picked up illegally. As a result, they will need to find ways to fix that, too. If they can do their "best" to try and stop illegal drug trafficking, can't they use the same effort for illegal gun trafficking?...

Either way, they're just throwing in excuses for gunmen in court. Blame the video games in interviews, and the offender will blame them in court and claim insanity. It's that simple, really, when they don't care much, Nya~.

Video games are an outlet, not an inducer of violence. The real problem we have with viiolence is that we, as a society, have glorified it one way or another. A lot of video games, television shows, and movies are filled to the brim with violence because we like them that way. If we didn't, they wouldn't be making millions of dollars from it.

The media does have a little bit of influence, however, because we all want attention. Mass shootings tend to be one way for certain individuals to exact revenge or cry for help when they don't know how to properly manage their emotions.

The frequency of violent acts has desensitized us into thinking that violence is an everyday occurrence; in reality, it is avoidable on an individual level.

Claiming that video games are a bigger problem than guns is a short-sighted answer to a problem that an entire society is struggling to deal with.

On a lighter note, a politician actually defended video games.

I guess they're not all that bad.

Guns do not kill people. The person using the gun kills people. And unless the person playing shooters is an absolutely crazy idiot who wants to imitate every single thing that his favorite video game characters do, the video games will probably not be the cause of it...it will be the person's own damned decision. Scratch that, GUNS. F******. KILL. PEOPLE. How f****** hard is it to get that through your thick motherf****** Republican skull?

It is embarrassing that these people leading us are so ignorant on this subject. I mean c'mon guys, really, who elected this guy.
