My Base Team is Ryu, and Strider.
One for distance and one up close and personal.
I sometimes alternate the balance I have with Distance Hitters with a "Ruy clone" like Ken, Akuma, Captain America, Cyclopse, Gambit, Morgan, Captain Commando, and Mega Man. (They mostly play the same.)
The Short Distance characters vary Wildly. Wolverine on days I don't feel like thinking. Psylocke on days I want a challenge. The dude in the white outfit that drives a Mech on days I feel silly. Strider on days I want to chain my hits endlessly.
When part two came out I just added a distance hitter to "relearn the wheel" (How the game works.) Later I favoured the up close and personal Hitters. That game was so crazy I ended up employing Mega Man allot with one close distance fighter and any random character for the third.
Come to think of it....
I noticed the majority of Capcom fighters in the first one just the same as another that did a review here. So, I did have many days where I just picked marvel characters.
My base team was often Gambit, and Psylocke, with any random third. (Often Captain America. Love his theme.)
Now we have the third instalment.
The graphics changes are fine. The music changes are fine. The Button Alterations are not my favourite change. The attack buttons are very much dwindled down to 3 general attack buttons that randomize punches and kicks, One hay-maker button, and Four Hyper Combo and Assist buttons. There is less initial skill for beginners to figure out. There's really very little that separates the skilled from the weak players. It is a brilliant invention, But I wish there was a way to change the button functions to be more like the classic set up. I liked the way I played before I had a very distinct style and strategy. Because all the punches and kicks were combined you basically get really close or stay really far away. Allot of strategy goes out the window to button masher heaven. Its more of a game of how intimate you are with the character and can you mash fast enough to get to the command you want him to execute once in position. I like the intimacy but still, I want the option of punching or kicking to be separate.
Some characters are a dream to handle with this. Wolverine is one of them.
Others are a pain to figure out. Ryu is one of them.
Yes. That's right. I said Ryu is hard to operate in a Fighting Game.
It takes practice, but too much.
Getting a dragon punch out of him is like getting a nuclear physics degree.
With that in mind I have fun with Akuma when fighting the computer. And Go with any character but Ryu when fighting other people.
My Team has Dead Pool , Dante, and many alternates. (I don't really need a third character.)
Morgan or Phoenix are the most popular according to my x-box file. Task master, Strider, and Captain america are the next runners up.(Not in that order.)
Hulk used to be a secret weapon, when his punches and kicks were not tied together in one button. Now, he's kind of a joke for people and just a computer boss when the c.p.u. selects him. Always the silly control issue.
Good Luck To All.
That's it. I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.
