I have been wondering this for a while. The last time I have been to a
church has been  like a year ago, but my mother goes to 3 different
churches a week. She is always trying to get me to go with her but I'm
not a big fan.

 Even though I am only 17 I have been a a few
churches and some of them were old fashioned. Where everyone has to dress fancy and look nice or else they are looked down upon. The ones were they pray
for like the first 20 minutes and then preach about the powers of God
and then sing and then preach some more... the whole "God loves you,
everything he does is for a reason. Don't fall into the temptation of
Satan!" and then they sing, read the bibles, and pray some more. After 3
hours it is finally over. Everyone is happy and they go home knowing
that someone loves them.

Other churches that I have been to are
in the 'now', they are hip and they are totally different. People are dressed in pajamas and its totally fine. It is
arranged like a concert, everyone sits like in a movie theater, there is
a stage where the speaker is and  televisions for people who sit in the
back. Its basically more like a seminar. They are like 40 minutes long
and they sing for about 20 minutes, preach about God, there is no
actual reading of the bible. The man just talks about Jesus/God, they
pray and everyone goes home feeling awesome.

Some of the churches
that my mother attends sound weird. She actually told me that in one of
them... people get so hypnotized by the words of the preacher that people
actually start twitching and they will literally trow themselves to the floor and
scream and twitch some more... sounds creepy... I seriously thought this
only happened in movies.

Anyways, What is your church like? ^-^

Resuri : Old style. You know, the old hymns... No guitars or drums or anything! Yes, it's nice to dress up nice, but nobody's going to think less of you if you don't. (or at least, almost nobody) Nice old baptist church way down in the redneck part a florida.

Mine is VERY traditional. Dressing up, singing the old hymns, and the only instruments we use daily is an old piano. Whether or not the church is being traditional or up-to-date, what I learned is most important is the message and what the preacher says and that it's STRAIGHT from The Word, instead of some people saying "Oh, I think..." or making a whole message on a single verse instead of the whole chapter depending on how big the chapter is.

My late grandpa always told me that "its not the church who makes you holy" and also my grandma was like this since she was cast out when she and her co-workers wanted to go to church but instead of getting the good word were called "sinners" and "peddlers of sin". (she worked at a hotel that sold alcohol) So... we didnt really had as much faith in the church. Also on my fathers side there were complications I think its best I leave out.

But I take my grandpas advice still.

Mine's not super traditional, I mean it's not frowned upon to dress in street clothes but they prefer dress wear.  Still sing the old time hymns and all that good stuff, of course my dad is the pastor so I'm stuck in the old style views lol but it does't bother me i'm my own person.

The Church I currently go to now is Evangelical and more contemporary. They sing more modern songs older ones with modern styles now like Here is our king and In Christ alone. Every now and than we'll sing an old hymn. I used to go to a baptist church where all we sang was old hymnals and the worship was pretty much dead, and there were only between 50 and 70 people. The architecture was pretty traditional and the pastor didn't click well with us. My current pastor clicks and for an evangelical, he's traditional doctrine wise which I like. He doesn't do a great deal on spirit gifts and such like new age evangelicals. Its not that he disbelieves that, he just doesn't emphasize it as much.

I go to a non-denominational church.  We place emphasis on studying the bible and teaching the scriptures, since it is only God's Word that can edify and make you grow spiritually.  We always have praise and worship sessions before the actual study / sermon starts.  We sing from modern worship songs (Jeremy Camp, Matt Redman, Paul Baloche etc.) to hymns.  I am blessed to be part of the worship "team"  - we don't just choose any random old song.  We make sure it lines up with scripture, because there's a lot of artists out there producing "Christian songs" and claiming to be Christian.  We also focus a lot on prayer and fellowship.  Of course none of the decisions in the church are made without praying about it first and waiting to hear from the Lord, after all, it is God who plant churches.  It should never be the other way around. Unfortunately there are "churches" that have a big "show", like a rock concert, to draw the people and where the bible is hardly opened or studied.  It's a nice "experience", but you can't build your life on an experience.

My church is too small, but we have bunches of people. We have 2 traditional and 1 contemporary service every Sunday. The traditionals have the hymns and whatnot like you expect. The first service has the whole "dress up nice". The second one doesn't. Still traditional, but its mostly parents and they're kids. The contemporary service is the only ones with a guitar or drums. All of the services are liturgical, so the basic order of the service goes as follows:

Opening Song/Hymn
Confession
Song
Song
scripture Readings
Sermon
Offering (with song)
Apostles Creed
Communion/Eucharist (at least once a month)
Nicene Creed
Prayer (Finishes with the Lord's Prayer)
Closing song

This takes slightly over an hour, never over an hour and a half, even with a baptism.
