N from Pokémon Black/White and Black 2/ White 2. The first rival in Pokémon that is not inherently evil who also has an in depth back story which makes him even more realistic than past rivals used to be. His creation raised the bar to a whole new level in Pokémon gaming.

I like GLaDOS from Portal. She is as hilarious as she is deadly. I also like The Master from Doctor Who. He was a pretty awesome villain. And his return in the new series was awesome. Especially the drums (it makes sense in context) that beat was really catchy.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

My favorite antagonist is The Governor from The Walking Dead, comic and TV show, he has done absolutely despicable things, things that would make you hate his guts, and yet he was so out of reach from the main group, and had terrorized and killed them time and time again.

That's pretty much the definition of an antagonist, but he did it so perfectly, you wanted him dead just as much as the people in the show and comic did.

He was seemingly unstoppable, the only way he was disposed of was that his henchmen realized that he was really evil and then they had him killed in a brutal way.

I can't wait to see how his story wraps in the TV show, but I know he's my favorite.

You love to hate him.

A very close second to me would be Gus Fring from Breaking Bad. He was a very silent and professional man, he was efficient and knowledgable in every way. He was around for a season before he was realized the antagonist, and it brought a ton of shock value when he did. Out of nowhere he does completely horrifying things. From walking through sniper fire to randomly slitting somebody's throat with a box cutter, he was ruthless and calculated. One of the perfect antagonists.

The first ones I think about are Kefka from Final Fantasy VI and the Lannister family from Game of Thrones (I know they don't make an individual but they are some kind of a party)
Kefka has intrigued me because I'm into psychopaths, basically, and when I played the game he made me pretty nervous and I couldn't know what to expect when he appeared all of a sudden xD
I like the Lannisters, on the other hand, because they really make me mad (especially Joffrey and Cersei) but they have pretty interesting background stories as individuals. Also, Tyrion, Jamie and Tywin are not evil, but more likely intelligent and subtle, which I think makes awesome characters out of them (I have to say that I never read the books, thus my opinion may look partial but still, that's my point of view)

--True I made him, but I have legitimate reasoning.
My favorite antagonist actually comes from what I am writing.
Menori, the last of the Black Dragons.
First of all, his personality.
He is very honorable, very intelligent, and very powerful. He is a tactics expert, and despite knowing that he has to fight HIS FRIEND, he still treats him as though he was his friend, despite all the things that happened.

Back story.
As I mentioned, he's the last of the Black Dragons. However, what I didn't mention was that Menori, alongside his mother, actually were hiding with a group of Dragons - who had wiped out the Black Dragons, for years. However, they went into hiding when they became the last two. Menori is discovered, and sent to execution. However, his mother takes his place, and he witnesses the brutal murder of his mother - AS A HATCHLING. After the murder of his mother, he flees into the Dragon wilderness where he is hunted down FOR TWO YEARS. When he is finally saved by another group of Dragons, he is taken into that group, and finally given a proper home. However, months later, the group of Dragons who had tried to kill Menori, send assassins to the group where he is staying, and try to kill him. The Dragon who saved him, fights them off, saving Menori, but dying in the process.
After this happens, Menori rises to power, ultimately becoming leader over the clan.
Actions? I cannot explain without giving away spoilers. Plus, it would take far too long to explain.

I shall say Sephiroth. I don't think there can be anyone who can fill Sephiroth's shoes as one of the major villains in Final Fantasy. He is not entirely "evil", like "I want to destroy the world!" type of guy, but rather one of those quiet, extremely powerful guys. He is a tremendous fighter, and he looks so epic with his jenova wing and all. He fits into a merciless type of villain, trying to fill you with fear, pain, and all that lovely antagonistic-like emotions.

I feel Final Fantasy would not be the same without Sephiroth.

I would have to say Axel from Kingdom Hearts 2 (I think he counts) because you get to have a face-off with him using dual keyblades.

My favourite antagonist is...Well it's got to be Shadow the hedgehog from the Sonic the hedgehog series. Alongside his dark and silent nature he has awesome powers AND he can drive stuff (Mostly motorbikes) AND he can also wield guns. Also I think his back story is one of the best back stories of all time in any video game series EVER! He is not really having any important appearances at the moment.

BTW If your wondering what his back story is it goes like this :

So this mad scientist called Professor Gerald was trying to create the ' Ultimate life form ' After a while he had only created a prototype (Later to become the final boss in Sonic Adventure two). Now Professor Gerald was not the one to give up so after months of research he contacted an alien called Black Doom. Black Doom was black and red, just like Shadow would be. Gerald asked Black Doom if he could hand over some DNA for a project he was doing. Black Doom said yes, but only if you can bring me the seven chaos emeralds. Now Gerald then made a bad mistake : He promised Black Doom. Black Doom handed over the DNA and Gerald did some stuff that scientists do.

The reason Gerald created Shadow in the first place was an attempt to heal his granddaughter, Maria.
Now Maria was always very curious about what her granddad created. But Gerald was trying to keep it a secret until Maria found it herself. Gerald let Maria fuss over him. Little did he know their friendship would last a lifetime.

Maria and Shadow spent a lot of time together, When Shadow was sad, Maria would be there to cheer him up. When Shadow was hungry, Maria would often get him something to eat. Together they had many fun times together but, little did either of them know it would be coming to a end...

Now, a bad thing went on in secret. Its SO secret I cant tell you. But anyway, a few, I mean LOTS of years later, G.U.N soldiers invaded the ark. Maria and Shadow  had to run to the escape pod. Shadow got into one and Maria closed the door on him. A G.U.N soldier shot Maria but, Maria sent Shadow to earth before he had time to do anything. Shadow was NEVER happy again.

The end

I hoped you liked it ^.^

This will be an easy one for me. My favorite antagonist would be Sigma from the Mega Man X series. One of the key points here about him is persistence. Its like Bowser is to Mario, he is always persistent in capturing the Princess or rule the Mushroom Kingdom. However, unlike Bowser, Sigma is insane.

Backstory: In the Mega Man X universe where humanoid robots known as "Reploids", whom can think and feel just like humans, roam the world hand in hand with mankind but there are some that are bad...very bad. They break the founding rules of robotics which would be "to never harm a human". Henceforth a large crime investigation organization named the "Maverick Hunters" was created to combat Reploid crime. To fast forward this, one particular Reploid, Commander Sigma of Maverick Hunter HQ, got into a large battle with one of the main characters. In the end he became infected with an odd virus known as "The Maverick Virus" which soon changes within him and gives him power. Later on he plans a single handed rebellion from within Maverick Hunter HQ and causes the downfall of more than half of a large metropolis city (Abel City). This starts a large scale series of wars to break out across the planet and even reaches to the Moon in outer space.

Sigma's main purpose for causing all of this destruction was to coax out the apparent hidden power in the main character of the plot, Mega Man X, but to also wipe out humanity and make his own new world.  Even after his defeat the first time by the hands of Mega an X, the virus within him helps regenerate another body which continues his maniacal rampage and destruction on a global level. He is smart, he is powerful, and he is evil as can be. He is one to always taunt you, the main character that you won't succeed. You grow to both love and hate him for his schemes and how badly you just want to take him down a notch. He proves himself to be a challenge every time you face him and he always has new tricks up his sleeves so when the time comes, the fights against him are never stale.

I pick Sigma without a doubt for the reasons above and because if something like this were true, this guy would be the most terrifying being to ever walk the planet. He believes himself to be the leader, the messiah of a new world bent on human genocide and the uprising of rouge Reploids through an incomprehensible virus that just can't be analyzed and cured. Sigma will always be my #1 antagonist.

One of my favorite antagonists is also my favorite protagonist, at least from my point of view, Light Yagami from Death Note. I feel that what he set out to do is what needs to be done, and I identify with his pursuit of a better world. He does eventually make it clear he doesn't care anymore, and no longer needs a reason to kill, and that's why he is such a great antagonist. Someone that makes a place in your heart, and proceeds to crush it with a horrible action.

Vash the stampede from Trigun
I want to not give spoilers so I'm going to be vague
He is looking for someone who he has to do "something" about. vash hates the thought of killing anyone whether or not you are a good person.  While this is true vash has a bounty on his head for destroying a town and is rumored to be a deadly mercenary.
Its a awesome show that nobody can hate.

servbot128: I liked Superior Saturday from Garth Nix's The Keys to the Kingdom. She was downright evil! However, I feel like Nix did give her enough of a redemptive quality to make her likeable. Although she didn't really make a full-out appearance until Superior Saturday for the prologue, only to fade into obscurity until the near-end of Lord Sunday, she has a very real presence because of her actions. She constantly sent servants out to mess with Arthur (the protagonist) and always found a way to hinder his plans, even if she was hidden in the shadows while pulling the strings. Unlike most KttK fans, I still believe she's a good antagonist, and the ending of Superior Saturday, where {SPOILER} she falls off the cliff after having lost the Key without so much a fight whatsoever and her death in Lord Sunday {END SPOILER} I think she's that much more interesting than the Piper or Lord Sunday. After all, Sunday didn't really do ANYTHING whatsoever, because he thought he was so above it, and the Piper just wasn't that interesting of a character. Yes, he had a tragic back story that was Saturday's fault, but he honestly came off as whiny and... not that villainous, like a kid playing Evil Overlord Dress-up.
servbot128: I liked Superior Saturday from Garth Nix's The Keys to the Kingdom. I wouldn't say my favorite but I would say Ganondorf is the best antagonist. I really love his character, his actions, his designs. I really like him as a villain.

I would say either Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy series Vanitas from Kingdom Hearts or Ghetsis from the Pokemon series.

Sephiroth--> He's just a really bad guy. XD He doesn't really give a care about others and lets admit his design is cool.

Vanitas--> This is just more or less because I think he's cute but crazy. And lets admit being the dark version of someone and having the sole purpose to fight your other self so that you can help create the X is pretty sweet not to mention he can control (I forgot their official names) the heartless in Birth by Sleep.

Ghetsis--> This guy is just a plain old jerk. Not only does he lie to everyone including his son he also basically neglects N and uses him for his own evil purposes. And then he tries to take over the world again after he got his butt kicked the first time. I know Pokemon is a friendly game but sheesh this guy really aggravates me!

That's a tough question considering how many antagonists there are in video games.  The best one I can think of right now though is probably Cyrus from Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.  The theme when you battle him fits his personality perfectly.  Dark, and mysterious in some ways.  Especially in Pokemon Platinum.

Mine is the Rival in the gen 1 Pokemon games. Just kidding! He is LAME! My favorite is probably Bowser. He is really cool looking and fun to battle and stuff.

I loved Alduin, he is my favourite antagonist just for the pure hatred and respect I have for him. It never feels right killing him, Alduin saves your life, but you would face him what ever the time line happens to be. You die in Helgen, you face him in Sovengard. Ancient Nords don't use an Elder Scroll to trap him in time, he is still in the world to face in combat.
