My favourite of the original Sonic trilogy would probably be Sonic 1 or Sonic 3 & Knuckles because both of them have an awesome soundtrack and have pretty good level designs.

While I like Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles. I do prefer the 1st Sonic game. Its got the best gameplay of them all and the best designed levels.

My own personal favorite of the original three is the first game; I just enjoy it the most. That said, 2 and 3 & Knuckles improve on a lot of things, and I can't really argue that the first game is better in an objective sense.
