Okay, so here's the dealio.
I teach high school math.
I have a website to help students with math.

Ideally, it was just for the students that attend my school, but I'd love to see more activity on the website.  It's a forum board like this one (except perhaps not as cool, since there are no games on it. ) and it covers any math you might take in high school such as Algebra I, Geometry, AP Calculus, etc.

Every time my students post to ask for help or to give help, they receive bling points, which is sort of like the vizzed points here.  (I actually took inspiration from Davideo and applied it to my own website after asking him for permission to do so.)

When the kids earn bling points, they can spend it in a shop, buying little pictures for their profile, buying school supplies, buying candy, or even buying bonus points for their class.

However, they are not using the website enough!

Therefore, I'd like to extend the website to all of you high school students on vizzed.
Would you like to use my forum board?

When you use my forum board, you will be able to log in and ask for help.  I'm almost always online when I'm at home, so I'll answer your question most likely within 30 minutes.  If I don't answer right way, my own students might be able to help you.

I'd also be excited if YOU want to HELP other students.  If you're taking algebra II for example, and someone asks a question about algebra I, you could answer their question for me.

Whether you ask for help or whether you give it, you still get bling points.  Obviously, you wouldn't be able to buy candy or school supplies since you don't live in my neighborhood, but you CAN buy the profile pictures, you can buy items for battling other users, and at the same time, you can get help for your math homework.

If you're interested please send me a pm.
I must warn you however, if you are thinking about spamming, hacking, or abusing my site, don't bother.  Hacking it would be against he law and I would quickly shut you down.  Spamming or abusing the site would just caused me to permanently ban you.  Therefore, only pm me if you have a -serious- interest in getting help with math, or in helping other students from around the world in math.

I'd be willing to take a look. I'm a junior in college taking a differential equations class, so I don't think you'd want to waste time with the kinds of problems that I'd have. But nonetheless it'd be nice to take a refreshing look at some kinds of problems that I haven't seen in a while. If you don't want to post the link here (though I think it would be more helpful if you did), you can feel free to PM it to me.

soxfan849 :
Well, it wasn't all that long ago that I took differential equations, but being that it was a good seven years ago, I might be a little rusty.    If you HAD questions though, I wouldn't mind trying to help you out.

As for the website, I'm sorry to say that I do NOT want to post it here simply because I don't people spamming the site.  I'm not sure that looking at the website would give you a look into the types of problems, as I'm having difficulty getting students to actually USE the site.  Even though I've started the incentive program, teenagers these days don't like to make use of their resources.  I only have students posting about once a week for now, but I have an idea to increase activity.

I'll pm you the link and let you take a look around, though I don't think it will be interesting to you...yet.    Maybe next week after I've given my students more incentive to use the website.

Sure I will check out the website once I get a difficult homework from my Algebra 1 or geometry teacher. So far all of the homework they gave me are really easy.

I have nearly finished the work I told you about but the last bit involves me going out finding property and measuring it for fixtures and fittings. I'm not actually going to buy it but I have to do everything as if I was for the work

If you would like to register to the site, you could log in and help students whenever you liked.  However, if you live in the UK, you might have  a hard time with the vocabulary.

soxfan849 : Semester's almost over, but I got an A in Diff Eq if you want to see if I can help you with anything.

Singelli : So is it too late to become a helper? I don't know why, but I just LOVE tutoring math. It's so much fun. The world of Mechanical and Aersopace Engineering seems to be rejecting me at times, but I'm half way there now. My back up would be a Math major/teacher at this point. I'm only one Linear Algebra away from a Math Minor lol. Anyways, it's only about a month later, are you still looking for tutors?

danielbelitch :  Nah, it's never too late.  The only issue is that I can't seem to inspire my own students to use the site on a regular basis.  However, I'm thinking about opening it up to anyone here on vizzed, just so I can get some action on the site.  I love to tutor math as well (obviously... haha!), but I've never really met anyone who felt the same way!

Would you be interested even knowing that my students hardly ever log in to ask for help?

So how would I go about being a tutor then? Or are you saying there's no need? You could offer music downloads or something, that might motivate them more. Could also tell your students about this site and give them Viz to play the games lol

I know what you mean, though. There's a lot of factors that could determine if someone asks for help. I know I personally sometimes feel like I'm not cut out to be an Engineer if I ever need that much help in a class, something I'll have to get over. You should really emphasize how natural it is for people to need help in math

danielbelitch :  Well, with only my current students using the site, there's unfortunately not much need.  However, I've had several people on vizzed ask if they could register and ask for help, so I've been wondering if I should try to get vizzed users to use my forum.  If I -did- go this route, there might be a need for tutors indeed.  Do you know of anyone who would use the site, who you could get to register?

Engineering is a tough degree.  Most people I know that attended engineering school went ahead and got math majors since the required courses were practically identical.  I applaud your efforts and studies!

I do encourage my kids to seek help all the time.  I remind them that I cannot read their minds, and so the only way I know if they need help, is if they speak up about it.  However, we live in a society full of young teens who know how poor the school system is, and know just what they can get away with.  They also refuse to take opportunities handed to them on a silver platter just because it might be a little inconvenient.  I have no idea why my forum would be inconvenient for them, but they hardly ever use it.. a huge disappointment to me.

Alright, just let me know how I can help if the site becomes more active. The only person I really know right now that'd benefit is my friend that I'm helping with Calc1, sorry. If I was still in high school I could've advertised your site through my school lol. There a few people that showed up for tutoring through the NHS. Mainly the same kids every week. People just don't seek out math help like they used to.

Anyways, thanks for the encouragement and I hope your site picks up!

When I get some kind of bookwork that I have no clue what to do, I know right where to go! It's tough being in Algebra 1 in only 7th grade.

Well math is a tough subject for most people.    It's understandable if you struggle, and you just need to -be sure- to ask for help, no matter what.  Your teachers can't read your mind, so if you keep quiet because you're embarrassed, or too why, you're only going to harm yourself.  The further behind you get THIS year, the more and more behind you will get in the next few years.  You'll start to struggle with math more and more until you hate it and can't do it at all.  So make sure you start off right while you're still in seventh grade.  Ask for help at every opportunity!

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
