I like Vizzed very much but I don't really know if it's legal in my country.
You can play games companies developed and sold and you don't have to pay.
Also there're many web sites having a lot of free ROMs and you can download them and can actually play them.
Here I have a couple of questions.
Why don't the companies charge anyone for copyright infringement?
Do the companies think retro games are worthless charging people for copyright infringement becouse the games are too old?

Vizzed takes a different approach to the these video games than other sites. Most ROM sites have you download the games straight to your computer, but you have to find an emulator as well. Vizzed, on the other hand, requires you to play the games on the servers and emulators they supply. Still, regardless of what method is used, the legality of websites like Vizzed are all based on the decisions of whoever owns the intellectual property of the games. Vizzed explicitly states that if any company wants their games and/or emulators removed, all they must do is send David Auchampach --the owner of Vizzed.com-- a notice. Once done, it David must remove the materials or he truly will be committing copyright infringement.

I do recall that last year David received two notices, one from Atari, and another from Sega. Atari only required the removal of games for several consoles they own. Sega only asked David to remove a single emulator that they owned the rights to. So you see, Vizzed strives to remain as legal as possible.

It would really be silly for most companies to take legal action against people for providing ancient games that they don't make any money off of any longer. If you don't stand to profit, how is Vizzed hurting you? It's not like the site is offering ways to play current gen games that are still being sold right now for free. The most modern thing on here is GBA which Nintendo stopped supporting with the DSi, given it got rid of the GBA cart slot.

Now of course, there are games that are being sold once more via virtual console and XBLA and PSN and the like... and if a company that actually now stands to make money again of these old games sees emulation as a threat to those profits, they can make this clear and this site at least will comply. If you don't tell someone to stop doing something, then you're suggesting that you don't actually care.

Also I think copyrights only hold for so long unless you renew them anyway.

Crazy Li :
As it currently stands, no games will have expired copyrights because the Copyright extends (I believe) 75 years and the game industry itself isn't even that old.

As far as the games here go - David only adds games that he considers to be Adandonware - games that have been "abandoned" by their parents companies. As previous users have stated, any games that the companies want removed can be and will be if requested.

Thank you for your answer!
I understand the difference between Vizzed and the other web sites but unfortunately I was recommended not playing games on Vizzed.
The Copyright Act will be revised next month in my country and it's quite strict.
And I'm confused by people who purchase old games with Wii's Virtual Console.
If the old games were not on sale now I would happily play them on Vizzed.
I wish I could be here and enjoy playing the games though.
