NOTE: The controls on the emulators work as bad as the controllers on the 5200 itself. Pole Position did not work so I choose Pac Man as an alternative
I would not be surprised if people did not want to buy this game back in 1982. Not because the game is bad, but because Atari screwed up the 2600 version of Pac Man. Then came the 5200 version shortly after. It was a MAJOR improvement. The graphics and especially the sound are nearly identical the the arcade version.
GAMEPLAY A+: Pac Man will always stand the test of time. Except this version of Pac Man is actually more fun than the arcade version. Pac Man moves a little quicker than usual. That makes it easy to get major points on the ghosts. Also the only problem that this game had back in the day, were the controls. The controls are responsive, but I'm not blaming the game for making it awkward to play. I am blaming the god awful, horrendous malfunction prone, uncomfortable, non centering, analogue, telephone of a controller that the system came with!! >
I am thankful I am playing it on a keyboard.
GRAPHICS A: The graphics are nearly identical to the arcade version. The graphics of this version of Pac Man punches the 2600 version so hard, that the 2600 and the cartridge would fly around the world 1,000,000,000 times for nearly 10 minutes! XD The 2600 version had a terrible color scheme, but the 5200 version has the same colors as the arcade.
SOUND A+: The 5200 had some crazy good sound back in the day. It could produce voice synthesis, which was something years away. Also the sound effects and music sounded just like the arcade games. So it did not surprise me that the sound was exactly like the arcade version of Pac Man. I'm dead serious, I saw no difference in the sound what so ever to the arcade version!
ADDICTIVENESS A: Any body will be addicted in this game. This game is great for score and its just plain fun to play!
DEPTH B+: Pac Man only had one screen but this version over looks that with 8 difficulty modes and the option of 1 player or 2 player.
DIFFICULTY MEDIUM: When it comes to difficulty this game is perfectly balanced!
OVERALL RATING A+ Up coming reviews!
